  • ...because she was beautiful... because she was fiery...because she was crazy...

  • That actress doesn't remind me of Vivien Leigh, at all.

  • HOME WRECKER

  • She did a pretty decent southern accent, without going over the top the way a lot of people do.

  • Nothing like dragging a wonderful beautiful actress through the mud, yet no mention that Olivia was a homosexual. Maybe hypersexuality is a manic trait but she was married to a gay man. I am sure this made her illness worse. Its not easy being married to a man that would rather be with a man. This is a bad untrue documentary. She was a great actress. Rest in piece Vivien. You were a beautiful actress with a lack of love from childhood and on.

  • they were shit

  • My respect for her and Olivier only applies to their acting talent. So far in this documentary, if true, tearing each others families and lives apart especially affecting the lives of children, is shameful and selfish. In the long run they lose each other anyway.

  • pretty sad story!

  • it's ironic that she thought she wasn't like Scarlet when she is exactly like that character

  • vivien leigh was in a way just like scarlett

  • The lady at 5:40 has no idea what she's talking about. It's not impossible to get what you want. If you work hard enough you will get what you want. It's as easy as that.

  • @FanofBewitched Well, said!! That's what I believe too :-)

  • @adeleceleste Thanks I've been wanting to put that for quite some time now.

  • What a powerful woman! She should be an inspiration to all woman that you can get whatever you want if you have enough confidence and dedication.

  • its kinda of mean but i love vivien for going after the men she likes love her fearless and daring attitude.

  • omg, she is so pretty... excuse me while i go and retrieve my sexyality

  • Bravo !!!

  • LOL...She separated Olivier from his pregnant wife, and then abandoned her own child! and people still sing her praises. Just goes to show you how easily people are blinded by looks.

  • @NightinGal89 yeah, i'm sure she held a gun to his head and forced him to leave. it's not his fault, he didn't make a choice to leave his family. it's never a man's fault what he chooses to do.

    wake the fuck up.

  • it was not either " impossible" or "ridiculous". The ugly piece of horse shit should not be in this documentary.

  • They got the ship she traveled on correct (5:48 - 5:54)! Vivien Leigh strolling down the promenade of the Queen Mary...I can see it now!

  • Stars back then were built up and taught how to behave in public which is how the term "star" was coined. If you notice the way the old hollywood female stars walked and carried themselves and how they spoke. Today these "stars" are dressed shabbily and behave like animals. Sure the stars back inthe golden era of hollywood had their share of private scandals but today these stars lack any kind of special quality. Either they are all blonde with major Breast implant problems or ratty looking.

  • I find this Marcy lady incredibly intolerable. On the other hand, I absolutely adore Vivien Leigh.

  • @lapetiteombre I agree 100%

  • Vivien Leigh one of the best actresses ever..FACT

and one of the most beautiful.<3 true beauty..don't like this documentary honestly

  • .... the woman is an ACTRESS, I'm sure she admires Vivien and does not actually think she is truly able to depict her, or think she is as beautiful. Presumably she was cast, so why all the stupid hate? She doesn't have any 'nerve', she's just been cast in a role... it could be worse!

  • who is this ugly woman? how dare she say horrible things towards about vivien? she is ugly as hell. long horse like face

  • Ugh. What an awful documentary. Completely underplaying Leigh's clinically obsessive personality and insisting that she was merely 'determined'. How dull. How safe. Such awful talking heads - especially the woman.

  • its not impossible to get what you want. If you work hard on something you truly want then it is possible.

  • Cami Conlon was the daughter that died in GWTW

  • That Marcy woman who is playing Leigh is god-awful in the role. She does not look, sound, or act anything like Leigh. Someone tell the apparently delusional Marcy she should try for Eleanor Roosevelt instead of the delicate, beautiful, and graceful Leigh!

  • Where is number one of this documentary?

  • @Mirani2 it's right there ------> in the suggestions

  • Vivien Leigh was a wonderful actress.... She will always be remembered!

  • After watching I feel badly for her. She was abandoned in boarding schools and no one even came to get her for holidays. How terrible. Now wonder she was mentally unstable. Definatly a 4 in the enneagram. They suffer the worst psych disorders.

  • After watching I feel badly for her. She was abandoned in boarding schools and no one even came to get her for holidays. How terrible. Now wonder whe was mentally unstable. Definatly a 4 in the enneagram. They suffer the worst psych disorders.

  • No wonder Vivien Leigh was so keen to grab the role of Scarlett O'Hara. She is Scarlett O'Hara!

  • I admire her abilities as an actress but as a woman I think she is rather cruel.. Poor Laurence Olivier... she cheated on him very often.. he was a nice man and she was very sick...

  • she always got what she wanted because that's how she grew up, with her wealthy parents granting her desires, so if she doesn't get what she's after she goes crazy

  • Okay, and I'm being serious here. I don't see why VL is getting so much love. All I see is a selfish calculating husband stealing adultress. Oh yes, and a woman who deserted her own child. How is it nobody mentions any of that? Because she could act a bit and wasn't ugly? What? Well she may not have been physically ugly but she sure was in every other way. Sorry but it's true and should be said.

  • i agree somwwhat only on the part about her being promiscuous, they were saying she saw him and said "i'm going to marry him"like nothing was wrong with tha when the first time her soon to be husband was engaged and was still with the 1st during the time of her second husband

  • @bertbow9 She got the bill for her cruelness... she was very sick and her husband only stayed with her even he knew she was cheating on him because she had manic depressions... I think she had a very lonely life... but I agree with you

  • @bertbow9 Elizabeth Taylor has been married about nine times and how is that okay? Name a person that's famous and they will have flaws.

People love her as an actress but they never knew her as a person so they cannot judge her positively or negatively.

  • vivien was a stunning white woman..

  • she was a stunning woman....why bring race into it? racism is what has made america shit.

  • nah i wasn't tryna b racist or n3thing....even tho it seems that way lol..my bad

  • I can't believe this horsey American woman with the big nose and heavy voice has the nerve to depict herself as Vivien.

  • @4lfclvr67

Haha your comment makes me giggle! :)

    So true though

  • @4lfclvr67 thank you for saying that. I know you posted this a year ago but I was thinking the same thing when I just watched the 1st part of this doc. Horrible, horrible depiction of a wonderful, iconic actress. She didn't channel her whatsoever. Its quite offending.

  • @4lfclvr67

    My very thought. :/

  • @4lfclvr67 exactly. I'm sure there are drag queens out there doing a better Vivien than that lady!

  • Vivien kicked butt as Scarlett and she kicked butt as Blanche Dubois in Streetcar Named Desire. Her beauty was extraordinary and her talent even more so.

  • uve gotta hand it to her tho ... she deffinatly knew how to get what she wanted .

  • The man playing Ashley Wilkes was English!!

  • Vivien Leigh was English two

  • Vivien Leigh was beautyful and a fantastic theater and movie actress.

    But she was abit weird.

  • How was she weird?

  • she was crazy from love to the whole strong part of the world

  • Olivier said he was the one who introduced Vivien to Selznick. Not sure if I can believe everything these "experts" say. Olivier's marriag was a mistake because Jill was a lesbian and I am not sure about Vivien's first marriage, but obviously she wasn't happy with the man. This is pretty much a tabloid doc.

  • She really was nuts.

  • You have to question the integrity of this documentary. They don't have their facts straight. The narrator states that Vivien showed up with Myron Selznick during the "burning of Atlanta" filming IN COSTUME.

Ridiculous. She showed up dressed in her own clothing of course. If they're getting simple well-known facts like that wrong, what else are they misrepresenting here?

  • Vivien Leigh is undoubtedly the best actress of all time! She was classy, charming, kind, and absolutely gorgeous. Gone With the Wind was her best work!

Rest in Peace, Miss Leigh; Our Angel

  • I think Gable's accent is defensible, his character has probably been all around the country so it was probably just a mish mash of everywhere he'd been

BUT BACK TO THE GREAT VIVIEN PEOPLE!!!!

  • @poeticjournalism

I don't. His voice was exactly the same for every role he ever played, and he essentially played the exact same kind of character for every role he ever did. The man wasn't capable of being an actual ACTOR as Leigh was, only a movie star.

  • Because Clark Gable tried an Irish accent in a film prior to GWTW and failed, terribly. He was so embarrassed that he promised to never humiliate himself by attempting an accent, in a film, ever again.

  • only they were so much hotter/classier than Brangelina

  • @meladorimagpie classier? seriously dude, there are 2 classy people in hollywood daniel day lewis, peter o toole. everyone else is the kind that like to put their lives on fucking magazines. and getting their pictures taken, directors are great, but most actors are just attentinon whores, i mean why the fuk do actors get so much attention, there are other people in film that are more important.

  • @meladorimagpie how is that exactly? From what I read they were not exactly virtuous themselves.

  • young Lawrence Olivier = Ewan McGregor

  • I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing...

  • No. I beg to disagree. Ewan Mcgregor is more of a younger Alec Guiness & he proved this so in the new Star Wars movies.

  • You know, being herself British, Vivien Leigh pulled off a very convincing Southern accent. It escapes me to this day why Leslie Howard, another British thespian, acted his role with an English accent in Gone With the Wind.

  • I always wondered that also (about Leslie Howard) lol

  • True. That could also be said of Clark Gable who acted his role with a typical American accent.

  • Selznick had Vivien working four hours a day on her accent in preparation for the film. Maybe he didn't feel it was so important with Leslie Howard.

  • Leslie pretty much didn't care about being in GWTW and only took the part so David Selznick would give him permission to produce the film Intermezzo. Clark Gable didn't even attempt any accent either.

  • Their accents made me wonder whether Ashley Wilkes studied in England in his youth or Rhett Butler was a northerner or a northern sympathizer (so what's he doing in the South?).

  • she is so much like scarlett its scary

  • I adore both Larry and Viv. It's a shame that people who werent there are battling out on whose fault it is, no one was there. Its good that they did part in a way, they may have destroyed each other.

  • Vivien Leigh must have been the real life Scarlett. She worked her butt off. I have nothing but extreme respect for her acting, regardless of how her character was in real life. There was only one Vivien Leigh and there won't be another.

Awesome@ Olivia spoke in this clip! She's so animated :D she rules too

  • Agreed guaranagrl :)

  • omg i love her i'm actually doing my graduation work on her marilyn monroe and audrey hepburn they were the greatest....monuments of grace and beauty

  • eeerm, I meant "calm down."

  • wow! she was a truly extraordinary woman. :)thanx so much!

  • I'm pretty sure she would've survive with out him just as she did when he left her and

i do believe he loved her but he was no saint

    far from it.

  • you're right, he wasn't a saint, but neither was she. Their situation was extremely sad and unfortunate.

  • how do we know this people are telling the truth?

  • I want to hear Viv's side of the story.

  • Welllll, Vivien's dead, so good luck on that mission.

  • yeah, i'm sure everyone that knew her in real life, is just totally making it all up :/

  • well, Viv isn't hear to tell her side of the story and people are capable of lying and exagerating.

  • Exactly.

  • so which parts do you think people are lying and exaggerating about? Why would people even want to do that anyway? And do you honestly think, knowing what Viv went through in her lifetime with no proper medication or anything for bipolar disorder, that if she were alive today, what she would have said would have been 100% fact? From everything I've read, she hated even talking about her illnesses, and what's more is, I highly doubt she even fully understood what was exactly wrong with her.

  • Your argument is very convinient

    but is just speculation

is not that they are lying or exagerating is that they could be b/c is a fact of life that people do. The end.

  • yeah but you think everyone is lying regarding vivien leigh. if basically everyone tells more or less the same story, then there's probably some truth to it, don't you think? I highly doubt everyone who ever knew Vivien came together to form some giant coup or conspiracy to slander her after she died. Think about it.

  • I don't know about telling the same story but they could've read/heard something repeat it and or add to it that's how gossip/stories starts sometimes is very far from the truth or not true at all

why? maybe to have something exciting or negative to say about Vivien Leigh

we don't know them or their true feelings towards her and why (love or hate)

nobody is saying is a lie or an exageration they're saying it could be

    that's not impossible.

    THE END.

  • David Lloyd George said that there are two ways a man can be noticed, if he has something important to say or someone important to attack.

  • CAlm don. Thee's no sense arguing with you people, we'll never be on the same page as far as opinions on the issue. but I will ay that Ragardless of people's love for Vivien Leigh or hatred for Laurence Olivier, etc., people do need to realize that Vivien Leigh was not perfect. She was a very sick woman at the end of her life and no doubt did things that made her seem extremely difficult. These people are telling it how they saw it. it's ridiculous to rule out primary sources like that.

  • also, moonflower, your idea that everyone might be lying is also pure speculation.

  • Poor Viv. to think that she went through all the miscarriages, tuberculosis, manic depression and Larry's cheating really makes me go back in time and give her a hug.

  • *want to* and let me just add the nervous break down and the shock therapy. :(

she was a fragil but strong lady. one of a kind. :)

  • the candid footage of her and larry in these just breaks my heart. they're so adorable, and to think what he had to put up with, I feel so bad for both of them, but I really want to go back in time and give him a big hug

  • he didn't have to put up with anything

he wasn't held at gun point

he could've walked away just as he did when he left her for Joan Plowright

and if anyone went through a lot it was Vivien with the miscarriages, TB, maniac depression, shock treatment etc.

  • yes, i am aware vivien went through alot, but Larry hmm, what's the word? oh yeah, loved her and I think was afraid to leave her because he knew she had to be taken care of. as 1/2 of that relationship, he suffered with her.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! This is a great documentary!!!!

    :)
