@shoreihito i can live with the masters saying that, in a present day where we have guns, karate is only useful for sport, so why not turn it into excitment, i love to watch good "traditional" such as michael milon who is one of the best, true apply-able hand to hand combat contains very little karate, so its a sport anymore, not practical
Don't hate the player, hate NASKA tournaments. This guy has won grand champion so many times it's not even funny. But he does say he hates what NASKA does for traditional arts.
This is funny stuff. The people clapping and cheering made it just as entertaining. Hopefully for the sake of Martial Arts, this was a skit put on for a few laughs, if not ... the guy better wear Depends when training.
Of course the really funny part is reading the comments from all the internet karate "experts" criticizing his form, when anyone with half a brain could tell that he's doing it as a joke. Here's a hint for all you cyber-senseis out there: This guy is taking the piss out of you! You've been punk'd!
I guess the problem with doing a joke kata is that no matter how crazy you act, it's hard to look more ridiculous than someone doing a serious kata.

He is absolutely mutilating this form! It's a soft form, and he makes it hard, the movements should be flowing and circular, not spasmatic and straight.

In todays open tournaments even the best of traditional katas can be murderer by it's performers, Gopei sho has a lot of Chinese influence, there are many forms that are very old, but because of politics they have not shine like others, Gopei sho is not found in , Shorin ryu, because Shuri Ryu it's a completely different system

The kata he ran was loosely based on Gopei Sho.Even though it was a very altered form of it I could see some of the movements from the Gopei sho we work in Shuri Ryu
I spent a number of years on Okinawa.....this is not an Okinawan Traditional Kata, I think this is a competition form developed over here in the states.....a bit too dramatic for my tastes, not saying it is bad....the kid can get down in his stance, but this is not a traditional form

if you see a fake doctor... would you try to educate him? if you see a fake policeman, would you try to educate him? A martial artist is somebody who train fighting techniques and strategies, why would anyone educate a fake martial artist? It is better to put him in front of his misery. Then, maybe, he would learn something.
Actually if you go and read the NASKA guidelines for traditional kata it is not required to be an original traditional kata. And I'm sorry but all the forms that will ever be taught to you or me or anyone else will be one that was created by someone. I don't know of a single Martial Arts form that was created by GOD. Sorry if this comment bothers you but the competitors know the guidelines and that is what they follow.
