  • You should NOT introduce a digital signal (reverb pedal) while trying to demonstrate an analog amplifier. It COMPLETELY contradicts the purpose !!!

  • I am trying to decide between this amp and a Dr. Z Route 66... for jazz, fat Scofield-like sounds, but also for nice clean tones. Advice?

  • What amp would be the best if I wanted a warm, bluesy, kind of crunchy sound, like this amp has, but at "lower" wattage, like 35W/40W max. A master volume would be necessary...does the Blues DeVille 410 or the Blues Junior come close to this one?

  • Nice review. The LTD stands for Lacquered Tweed though, not Limited.. I used to think the same thing until I bought the older 90s version that didn't have the lacquering. Still, lovely amp and its nice to see it played with reverb for once. :)

  • re: reverb pedal. i think it sounds dry as hell without. a lovely building block but it DESERVES reverb so why not demostrate it? you can find enough dry bassman reviews on here.

  • what happens at 0.24? crazy swirls......

  • Is it possible to say that this amp is similar to the Hot Rod Deluxe???

  • @Redmar85 It's more similar to the Hot Rod Deville 410 but the Bassman breaks up a little quicker because it's only 50 watts and doesn't have a master volume. The Bassman is a little warmer and earthy sounding. The Deville has a brighter sound more along the lines of a Twin.

  • Never use reverb in an amp demo! How the heck can we hear the actual tone of the amp itself? Come on now, you should know better at your skill level!

  • does this amp takes pedal well like distortion wah and things like that or just good for clean?

  • @fruscidant Yes it does take pedals well. The amp is great for blues because it does get it's own break up when you turn it up.

  • @fruscidant pay attention class, he said @2:05 it takes pedals well.

  • @fruscidant yes

  • it sounds so good it makes me wanna sort of cry or somthin! ... and this is just a crappy cam recording!! (nice playing, dont get me wrong)

  • How on earth are you going to demo an amp's drive with a pedal? Put in some earplugs and crank it!

  • @OakPark11MileRd I dunn see what's wrong with that though. They both kick ass.

  • Dude looks like Vin Diesel

  • @murrayisthebest And he could take Diesel too....Mark is a baaaaad dude!

  • @NstuffMusic I bet he is also a better guitar player too.:-)

  • Just to avoid confussion, LTD does NOT stand for "limited" as he said in the video, it stands for "laquered tweed" as per the official fender website.

  • sorry but it is not the 59 bassman "LIMITED" reissue as you said , but the 59 bassman "Laquered TweeD " ;)

  • When you're demo-ing an amp, it would be so cool to demo just the amp!

This is an amp and pedal demo.

Wish you would have at least turned the pedal off for part of it.

Other Fender amps have reverb, but 59 Bassmans don't and that's part of their character, which is lost here.

  • @jayscott49

Totally agree I hate when people stick shitty digital reverb pedals in front of non reverb amps.

  • Am I wrong, or did jumping the channels give it some spank? It sure sounded better from where I'm sitting after you did that.

  • @gmdinformation Yes when you jump the channels you get the bright channel working with the normal channel so it gets more spank.

  • can you play bass on it?

  • @FunkyUhmtzz I personally would not recommend it for bass their is so many other amps out there that are better suited for bass guitar.

  • Does the bassman sound good at low volume levels too for recording at home or has it to be cranked up to sound that good?

  • @triclops8 It stay's pretty idle at lower volumes good for overdrive pedals but when you crank it you get all that natural harmonic breakup. Definitely sounds better at higher volumes.

  • Watch the grill cloth from 0:20... Trippy!

  • @DiatonicVids hahaha that's freaking insane. Good eye my friend

  • I really need a good clean amp that takes pedals well. Does anyone have any suggestions? DE VILLE 212 III / BASSMAN 59?

  • @candidodelcolleTV I personally think the Bassman sounds much better, especially by itself. On the other hand, if taking pedals is important to you, then the DeVille has more features to accommodate, such as preamp out and power amp in, and an effects loop. If those are features that you think are necessary, then go for the DeVille. If not, and if the price isn't an issue, I think the Bassman is the better choice.

  • Are the reissues made in America or are they made in Mexico?

  • @elviscash56 They are made in the USA!

  • Guitar players started to use the 59' Bassman not because of accident.

Bass players didn't like the amp because it distorted.

Guitar players took over that fact and started to use it as a guitar amp, which wasn't originally made for guitar.

    Just sayin'.

  • I really need a good clean amp that takes pedals well. Does anyone have any suggestions? My budgey is £500

  • that tone made the hairs on my back stand up

  • Will someone please answer the phone...

  • @Chromatype Are you trying to call us 412-828-1003?

  • "The more you turn it up the louder it gets" --- now you're trying to blind us with science :)

BTW, nice playing and great sounds!! Thanks a lot for taking the trouble to show us.

  • A great amp guitar combo is a 65 blackface Bassman head on a 2-12 cab with a Gibson Melody Maker guitar. Maybe add a simple reverb- a Watkins Copicat MKIV I know because I had this set-up and loved it's amazing dynamics from clean to dirty without even touching a knob!

  • I've saved for two years for the ideal amp for goodtonejazz, fusion, or blues with a good clean sound with my american deluxe stratocaster. With a budget of $ 1400 I thought of a fender supersonic 60W, a 65 twin reverb or a reissue bassman 59. It is impossible for me to try the amp before buying it, so I have a chance and buy it without hearing it before. Which of these three amps do you recommend? or what other option for the sound I seek you recommend? Thanks, and sorry for my english

  • @MrAmbassadeurs The Supersonic 60 watt will have the nice sweet overdrive for the fusion stuff both the Bassman and the Twin you would need a overdrive pedal. The Supersonic is $999.00.

  • @MrAmbassadeurs If you go to a Guitar Center, they can order it to the store to see if you like it, and if you do, you can buy it on the spot

  • finally someone who cranked it! thank you so much and great playing!

  • great playing just turn the reverb off!!!

  • Some years ago I had this beautiful amp. I gave it away for a 65 Super Reverb...to worst choise in my whole life!!! I would like to have it back...

  • vin diesel?

  • the amp sounds good, but it doesn't even come close to a real 1959 bassman. Not even in the same ballpark

  • your such a good guitarist ! really, every guitarist does the same old shit. your runs are unbelievable.

ANYWAYS, ive been saving for this amp for nearly a year and just got the money ! would you say this ? or Fender Super Reverb ?

    Thankyou.

  • @adamhopeless I personally prefer the Bassman, : it is probably the most basic and iconic amp ever made--also, the fact that there is nothing in the way of the original signal makes it a virtually perfect platform for a pedalboard I've always liked the sound of a 4x10 combo, and I love the speakers that come with the Bassman I hope this is helpful to you---one more thing--the cabinet is a pine cabinet, which resonates in a way that really compliments the speakers Thanks so much Mark Lucas

  • @NstuffMusic Thanks alot man. With your advise, i went for the bassman which i got delivered yesterday. Its great ! I link the channels together and have them both around 4, so its just hit the stage of break up. Will it damage my amp in any way when i keep this patch cable in ? Also, will using a fuzz pedal damage the amp in any way ?

thanks again ! your advise is killer

  • I freakin LOVE this amp!! Everything about it just screams my name! (except the price)

  • Can you get that sound out of a Fender '65 Princeton Reverb Combo Vintage Reissue? it's almost 300€ less!

  • so is that a amp for bass? Can it handle bass?

  • @pfarina I would only use it for guitar.

  • @pfarina

On the one hand, it was designed for the early electric basses (P-bass), so it seems like it could handle low-output bass signal fairly well.

On the other hand, there must have been some reason bass players stopped using them in the first place (letting guitar players have them).

... Either way, I'm a guitar player, and I really want one lol Good luck to you:)

[Thanks for posting, Nstuff! You guys do great demos!]

  • @pfarina it can handle bass just great its just a little queit is all, id only use it for recording and small gigs/jams

  • @pfarina it was designed to be used with the fender p-bass. i wouldnt see the problem using a bass through it. but dont expect very much headroom out of it if you plan on using it for playing live with a band

  • Wonderful demo and wonderful amp!

  • Blech, hate the newer Highway One series:S Interesting choice w/ the pedal, though - seems like a natural choice and yet sacrilegious all at the same time:D

    Nice demo:)

  • that sounds.... so..... goooood!!!

  • great review, great sounds!

  • Sweet.

  • great sound :) !
