If im paying 279 or 379 dollars I would expect to be getting more than a freed up version of what I already have. I will never be able to afford suite so is there really a point in upgrading to the full when all it is is lite without limitations?
The limited version allows you to get live bundled with your midi controller once your experienced and need more instruments open you can upgrade to the full version theirs nothing wrong with doing it this way without money Ableton would not of made Live in the first place and would have to stop supporting it.
Right now after having so many problems with the Lite version that comes with the Launchpad I don't think wasting more money will help. Until I can get someone from Ableton to even answer a simple question it looks like the product tech support is non existent. I have as of yet not even been able to record 2 tracks into the same set. . Whenever you try to use a VST it either won't work or the program just out and out crashes. The first thing would be a down loadable manual that you can print.
@AtomicJimmyMack I went with Cubase. They actually respond when a customer has a question. Good technical support. And the basic version gets me everything that I will ever need. This is not a pro endeavor just a hobby.
@Booger6995 i cant get 2 tracks to play in sync and it crashes randomly have not heard back from support yet I'm ready to give up on this software and move on
@sontwisted I dumped Ableton and went with Cubase 5 Essentials. It is their starter for version 5 and kicks the crap out of the Abelton gelding version that accompanies the LP. And they actually respond to technical queries real quickly. Not once have I had to wait more than a day to have them already in a chat and providing solutions. Really good customer service. I am in the serice industry myself and appreciate their attention to it. When I spend dollars it will be with Steinberg.
Buy something that gives you Live Lite (keyboard, etc) instead of getting Intro, imho. I believe it upgrades at the same price and has very similar functionality. Ableton is sick. It's worth figuring out and getting, even if it's just the Lite version. But yeah I wish the base full version was cheaper, even at reduced upgrade pricing.
get a 30 day trial version for free at their website and just mess around with it. thats what i did and now im pretty good at it. i wouldnt say im a pro but ive had this for a few months and know it back and forth.
@XXAlbaneziXX search youtube for 'ableton tutorial'. people (like me) make tutorials. Check out my channel, subscribe and I will try to help you with anything ableton related. :)
I think it's stupid that you're limited on the number of instruments/effects/inputs/outputs you can have on the lower priced versions, it's a con to get you to buy the really expensive versions. How am I supposed to make music with only 4 instrument tracks and 6 fx slots? It's ridiculous.
agree, but Live just kick so much ass if you compare it to any other DAW (I actually did this instead of just saying it). So collect your coins for another month and buy the big shitload, it's worth it.
@tdwp1992 Here's some advice taken from by TroyP in the Ableton forum:
You can create 4 submixes, one in each audio channel. The process could be like this: (1) Sequence MIDI stuff into the 4 tracks; Record all 4 MIDI tracks into one Audio track; Repeat until all 4 Audio tracks are full; Record those into Arrangement view; Take the resulting clip back to sesson view and put it in one of the audio tracks.
@tdwp1992 ive been using lte for awhile, if you actually do your homework instead of complaining on youtube vidoes you can do alot with what you work with in lite.
For those of U that like the song, like me: download Audacity (it's FREE), hit the record button and then start the video again. Audacity will capture anything playing through your soundcard @}>-`-,---
okay, i'll be honest: i've been rocking out on a pirated version of ableton 6 for a few years. the new features look great, it's just hard to drop so much cash on software. yes, i know what i have been doing is wrong, but i'm not a pro and i can't spend like one..yet.
are ableton 6 sets compatible with newer versions? this would make a purchase more compelling.
@circa9993 thats for the suite edition, producer edition i wouldnt mind having, 300 buck upgrade price though

full version alone is 500 and the upgrade is 400. such a big difference...

@djbeatjerky804 yes, you can Warp in Live Intro. The "Complex" and "Complex Pro" modes only come with Live 8 or Suite 8, however.

The PRICE is what's making me have to purchase live intro in the first place. Can't beat image lines fl studio, on this one guys.
If live was 200 I'd purchase it this second.

I do want to upgrade but the price isn't that great for me. I'll hold off and stick to my weird workarounds.

@tdwp1992 by bouncing down your tracks to audio, pretty simple
still not that i'd wanna be bothered with that all the time as the full version of live is good value
