@azrial4421 In theory, you could get other ARM based OSses on it, but there aren't many readily available. Of course you couldn't get Windows to run (if that is what you getting at) as the CPU is not x86 compatible.

@thapizzakillr Well a PSP is a lot of annoyance because it is a closed system and you have t fiddle around with firmware a lot. Also, a PSP is a lot slower, so you could emulate fewer systems.

Generally, a Netbook would be "better" at emulating, but a Netbook does not have gaming controls, shorter battery life and isn't usable as a hand held.

So there isn't really a better, it depends on what you want from it.

because that is the demo the game starts by itself after launch. You can hide the menu and it will keep playing that by itself. Was the same on PC. It is not fake and i fail to see why people keep assuming that, since it is not black magic. The game run on a 90MHz Pentium, an amount of power most handhalds have for years. Also, the games source is open and without assembly optimizations rather easy to port. There is even an amiga version for christ sake.

@alizta this game only run on a pentium 90MHz if have a 3d card, played quake 2 on pentium 3 133MHz with no 3D card and run at 19fps, this video remember my pentium 133MHz

It is real. What you see is the demo, runs every time you execute the game. I have my selft the wiz and the quake 2 port and works perfectly. If only i could map the control...

Hmm, it would be interesting to see a port taking advantage of the 3D acceleration, I could imagine that it would be able to run smoothly then.. (Unless this IS 3D acceleration with no filtering)

@risingfall PSP is 333 Mhz while the Wiz is 533Mhz and overclockable to around 900 Mhz. So yeah, the Wiz is "faster" Plus the PSP is MIPS and the Wiz is ARM9 cpu which I think is a more powerful CPU as it is.

I thought the WIZ would have enough power to play Quake 3. Btw how can you play a FPS with the little buttons the WIZ provides. I would criticize the WIZ but the Pandora so far has almost reached 1 year of delays.

The WIZ wasn't intended to play fast paced, FPS games, it was intended to play small, simple games and the classic consoles/computers via emulators, the WIZ's button layout is perfect for that.

The Pandora does look nice, however. The power in that thing is immense, but the Pandora is more like an open source micro computer, both consoles are nice, the WIZ was just intended to be more of an old console emulator than a fast paced 3D gaming supercomputer :P

The previous versions of gp2x were able to emulate about 30 different platforms, like all the 8-16 bit consoles, many arcades and so... it still has the best MAME emulator ever on an handheld. All of that without hacking it.

It is an open portable so it can do anything since anyone can write programs for it. There are emulators that let you run game for GBA, SNES, Mega Drive and other consoles, which is its big selling feature. Also it has a 3D graphics processor and there are games made specially for the Wiz.

I had no idea that PSP and DS could run emulators (I've never used one). can you just load any ROM you like? Do you have to hack the firmware to get them to work?

DS is simple, just use R4 or other cards and an emulator, forgot the name, and PSP you have to hack it to use homebrew or emulators.

have you ever tried DS emulators? they are slow, same for psp ones. The gp2x emulates all better because there's more focus on that, the wiz is still new but the old model can emulate things like MegaCD, a lot of Mame arcades and much more perfectly

i dont know what psp emulators u tried because all the emulators work flawless on my psp.cps2,gba,snes,genesis,psxp­sp,cps1,neogeo,mame. u must6 of been watching old videos of old homebrew.even sega cd is almost perfect on psp with picodrive 1.51. get your facts straight

I don't know about you, but I'm damned sick and tired of having to buy a piece of hardware, and then only being allowed to run the software that the HW manufacturer LETS me run on it.

I'll be honest, you need to know somewhat about what you are doing to use a Wiz to it's full potential.

it's an open source console, everything is open source, from the linux kernel to the emulators and many homebrew games are.

The official games are the homebrews, you don't need to hack the console to make them run, the console itself is done for that.
