if you read the history of capoeira back in the 16th century, capoeira was formed as a resistance to slavery. they have no weapons but only a machete. so now to keep the tradition alive the use wooden sticks in their maculele performance. another part of the capoeira tradition.
Hey i've noticed something, i think their mght be a weapon form of capoeira becauuse in some of the videos i've seen, in the roda's, i see alot of capoeiristas using sticks, is anyone abel to explain, what that is please. I'd greatly appreciate it.
yeah something you should know about marcia, I've never trained with her personally, but she's highly respected in Abada. When people talk about people with skill, she's on the short list, seriously.
I have been training Capoeira for 7 years, 2 years with Marcia. She is a very amazing person, she made me realized so much about Capoeira and the way of life. The day she gave me a Capoeira name "IUNA" and batized me while Mestre Camisa was playing Birimbau...It's the day I will never forget...
I'm so glad to find this video about her. I first came across capoeira at a women's martial arts camp probaby in the early 80's. Unfortunately at that time no one was teaching it anywhere near me. Now it is too late for me, but I put my son in it a few years ago. I still wish it had been here when I was young enough to try! So glad to see this video on a mestranda- still pretty rare! hope to see the movie soon.
I started with Marcia and ABADA 11 yrs. ago when they were still on mission street. She is the nicest and most carring person you could ever meet! She is a legend and the jewel of the capoeira world!
