I was thinking of getting minecraft recently and making a underwater base. This would make agreat adition to the MPManor. I was thinking of making an addition of a sun roof to it. Just have an open space between the glass and some lightstone with little triggers that release water in the night, dimming the lightstone's light... Also, I was thinking of making an animal zoo. That could be like their activity area...

From what I know, I think he probably made a block staircase so that grass from the normal height could jump down block by block, and with light from the torches, the grass blocks are able to grow and spread to the other soil blocks, resulting in what you saw there: a whole field of grass.

friendly mobs spawn when the light level is above 6.

So get some grass / dirt and lit it up, plant some trees maybe and some flowers here and there and you will have friendly mobs such as sheep, cows, chicken and pigs.

That new stuff... Lightstone. It's found in the Nether, it's a perma-light source as a cube. It's hard to get large amounts though.
