Guys mines was on a constant loop right up until 10 mins ago..I plugged it in, reset it then put it into disc mode(centre button and play) then held reset again so it reset twice then my itunes popped up saying its went into ipod recovery thenit restored it..i was just lucky i guess
dude i got the same problem!!! but the problem is, is that i tryed to hacked with windows vista... i custumied wrong.... then that happen...can some one helpeme????
i have the same problem and tried everything and was only partially successful in disk mode where i was able to get my ipod recognized by itunes and my computer but nothing about it was able to be altered( eg. not upgrading or fragmenting)
some people said to leave it charging overnight and it will be fine other said it was a hard drive problem and only apple can fix it
ok, the ipod i have is from a friend who had a mac. so its formatted for a mac. but i have a pc and itunes wont recognize the ipod and it keeps going to diskmode everytime i turn it on! what should i do?
555566hy's comment totally works!!! Thanks sooo much! Apple must know that this is how you fix it they just dont tell you so you have to buy a new ipod! Saved me £100 pound, never listening to apple customer service ever again!!!!!
okkkkkk everyone i just fixed mine okay i have a windows vistas,so i went to the apple store then i thouhgt okay they(the workers are going to give me the same bullshit of sorry or etc.) of i cant help me im goin to continued on next comment.....
but this asian guy was so nice to me i talk to him all kool and yeah that fooo did helpe me
So if I reboot it, does that mean I lose all my files?? :(( I'm scared. My bro just totally broke my portable hard drive which contained all my music and vids. :(
so the guy tells me to get the version of itunes then connect your ipod then let it wait until th appple logo comes out then hold menu and the center button for 20 sec. then itsgoin to start over then the restore thingy meassage comes out then say yes on restore to factory settings and its going to work
I reformatted my hardrive on my computer about a week ago, this may have something to do with it? I dropped it from about 2 feet and it gave me a screen saying "plug into computer to restore" or something like that in 3 languages. I plug it in, it says it needs to restore, i restore it and it goes through its process. . 5 mins later it looks brand new, choose a new language has clicker sound etc., i plug it back in and it gives me the same message .....
omg i was about to buy a new ipod & then i read your comment and tried it and it WORKED...seriously you should post this everywhere, it was so helpful(: thank youu!
@tonysimoni thank god you have been the first one to help me with this lol all sites i went to went and told me disk mode but none exactly helped thanks for your description!
@hjaltiskates Actually, considering I've had mine for over 5 years, dropped it on cement several times and have gotten it wet, I would say they iPods hold up pretty well.
mmm this happened to mine it froze so i restarted it it loops i was told to hold menu and middle button (restarts it) then hold middle button then play/pause (disk mode) which should make ure comp reconise it i am sitll to try this as it is at my dads. google it or sumin :P
so letting the ipod battery go completely dead and then hook it up to the computer and open itunes will fix the rebot loop problem??? wow and i been holdin my penis tryna figure out what the hell was wrong
this happened to my ipod about a year ago, i was just about to throw it away after taking it apart etc but it still didnt work, then i was just fiddling with the buttons constantly and turn on and off all slides etc and it randomly worked, i cuddnt believe it so i quickly plugged it into the itunes and did a restore from there and it worksss after a year of not workin!!!!!
its rly worth it, i got a broken classic from some guy who didn't take care of it, went to apple, and got it replaced, and then, purposefully messed up the hardrive with magnets a few months later (DEC), took it to apple and got a new one again.
JMC01644, how in the world could this be Microsoft's fault? When Apple's software is working with Apple's Ipod it has almost nothing at all to do with Microsoft. Apple wrote Itunes for windows and if it sucks real bad and bricks Ipods left and right it isn't Microsoft's fault. You don't blame the car manufacturer when the tires you put on your car go flat...
I have heard/read that if you disconnected your IPod before you should have and are using Windows Vista...that might have caused the problem. Call Apple and complain or call Microsoft and complain to them since it is most likely their fault that your IPod is not working!
I got a similar problem. It boots up and says "use iTunes to restore". Though the iPod isn't recognized by any computer. I think i might of dropped it. Any help? PM me if you know the answer. Thanks.
hold menu for 5 seconds then hold the middle button for 5 seconds, if that doesnt work exchange it, if u dont have a warenty call apple off the aple website if that doesnt work throw it at a wall
gah, my ipod went into a boot loop after restarting because it wouldn't play files.
I let the battery die and plugged in the USB cable and itunes restored it, but still boot looping. Windows cannot read the disk or format it. Winamp views the database oddly enough though.
I guess I have to send this into Apple, I always hate sending products into anywhere, takes too long, shipping, etc >_>
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
GUYS! I HAVE THE answer see my friend has the same problem he droped his ipod form our campus stairs which are like 16 steps which is pretty high. NO physical damage but it keep restarting so i took a look at it. I went up the staris and droped my zune notthing happend to the zune and it works fine! SO GET A ZUNE!
I say its a temporary fix because, i still can't put my rambo movie on, but its not a big deal for me. Idk if its the firmware, mine is 1.03, although im hearing it has something to do with 1.02.
Like i said, itunes will put your ipod into disk mode on its own, this time the restore screen should be black with the apple logo in the middle. Oh yah, it may seem like an over night task, but with a full charge(happend right when i disconnected it, had full charge), it takes about 2-3 hours to let the battery drain. Don't forget, let it drain to the point where the ipod is off.
Idk, im sure some of you already figured this out, and its not the easy but its a good temporary fix
Ok this is a message just incase this happens to someone else. Second time it happend to my ipod. both times after putting a Rambo Movie on my ipod, idk whats up there, but w/e. Any way i tried everything, i put it into disk mode myself, and i had it restored, only to find, it would shut down mid way, and restart the problem. My ipod is functioning after letting the battery die, then plugging it into the computer. You will know it works, if itunes automatically asks you to restore it.
I had the same problem. Called Apple support and know it is working. I hold menu + center for about 30 seconds, nothing more. No disc mode no anything. And it connected to itunes.
I didnt mean to mark your message as spam, Pesse, sorry. I meant to reply to it. I tried your idea and it didnt work. It just doesnt turn on and trying to reset it causes the problem again
No problem mate. I dont know, I had the exact same problem as you... tried everything and gave up. I let the ipod's battery go out during the night, because I could not turn it off. Then I guess I attached the cable to charge it so I could keep trying and Apple support told me to hold menu + center for 30 seconds and somehow it worked. It connected to itunes and I did a reset through Itunes and now it works. I'm actually clueless because I thought I had done that the night before.
I know im late, but yah same thing happend to me. It went in this reboot loop, frustrated, i left my ipod on my bed, and went to my hockey game. When i came back it was off, plugged it in to the comp, and it recognized it, and went into restore mode, and didn't loop up, like it did before.
My 80GB Classic is currently doing this exact thing. What should I do? I might wait till tomorrow morning and see if its fixed itself or wait for the battry to die.
yea that happend to me a day ago i wus gunna cry lol anyhoo mi friend taought me when the screen turns black immediately click and hold the middle circle jawny and play/ pause button at the same time until u hear a beep or the disk mode comes up plugs ur ipod into ur comp. and restore it hoped it help =]
My Ipod is doing th exact same thing right now! except I didn't drop it or anything. Did you manage to figure it out yet? If so, please tell me how you did it! :)

Had the same problem. I even went to the Apple store but those guys could not fix it.
1) reboot you ipod(hold center and menu button at same time)
2)while rebooting (so when the apple logo is on) put your ipod into diskmode(hold center and play buttons)
3)plug in ipod, wait like a minute, and while STILL pluged in reboot AGAIN/WHILE STILL PLUGED IN
4)it should then reboot/ start up correctly /and then you should have no more probs. Restore Ipod if necessary in ITunes or whatever have ya.

try plugging it into your computer, and let in sit there for about a day. if nothing happpens, send it to APPLE.
I don't know if they still fix classic iPods anymore, since they're old and not worth much, but it's worth a shot.
I have the same one, and my screen shattered.
