  • Kitty and Arlene, the grande dammes together.

  • omg this might sound weird but i call my cat kitty carlisle and i never knew this lady lol i just searched up kitty carlisle just to see what would come up and i cant believe it xD

  • @weightfeather1 Absolutely classy woman. :) Now, Arlene, Bennett and Kitty are classing up heaven with such grace, dignity and indeed with more artistic flare and creative energy than anything! When we get to heaven, it will be so wonderful, and EVERYONE will know everyone else. :D

  • The Harts (Kitty and Moss), Cerfs (Phyllis and Bennett), and Gabels (Arlene and Martin) were very, very close. The "creative" sector of New York social life (theatre, literary, music, radio, TV) was a culture all its own in that time..

  • what year?

  • @sabrinasjourney I am guessing about 1971 or 1972

  • @Drivermatic It had to be 1971 or before since Bennett died in 1971.

  • She was a nice lady with great dignity, classy without being snobby. She had a long and wonderful life.

  • look at that signature...like a true artist!

  • don't kitty and arlene make one feel right at home?

  • At this point in her life, Kitty looked a little bit like Gloria DeHaven

  • Arlene and Kitty were 2 class acts, there will be never be any like them again

  • @PREGO1966 along with Bennett Cerf, Steve Allen, etc

  • Arlene and Kitty sound a lot alike

  • I got to this video by first watching ozzy osbourne..then ozzy on solid gold to solid gold dancers video then to Madam comedy on solid gold ...then to bernadette strips on madam show..then to bernadette peters on whats my line ..then to Kitty Carlisle...what a strange road of youtube videos I just went down.....btw who is kitty carlisle?

  • Six degrees of seperation between Ozzy Osborn and Kitty Carlisle. LOL!

It's a wild and wacky world, people.

  • Carlisle was a broadway actress, opera singer from the 30's and 40's, but is best remembered as a panelist on the show To Tell the Truth, in the 50's, 60's and 70's.

  • This was show was from 1970, and was Bennett Cerf's final TV appearance.

  • She was a class act. I loved her look.

  • 80-yrs old with jet-black hair.

  • If this was from 1970 and she was born in 1910, then she'd have been 60.

  • Does anyone know when this show aired? I think Bennett Cerf died in 1971, so it was either in the late 1960s or very early 70s.

  • How old was Kitty Carlisle when she died, 150? And she still looked like she did here.

  • In her Archive Interview (see list at right) she is indeed instantly recognizable at age 95, looking nowhere near her age--but her voice sounding every bit of it.

  • 60'sthru80's, I agree with you wholeheartedly. That's one of the reasons that I don't watch prime-time TV, except for The Amazing Race and Cold Case.

Here's a show that I used to watch every night at 7 o'clock when I was a teenager. Nowadays, you've got trashy Jerry Springer and Maury with the cheating, lie detector tests, and "Who's My Baby's Daddy?" shows. Even Steve Wilkos' show is now borderline Maury with lie detector tests.

  • Kitty Carlisle was an American Treasure. It is really horrible that the Kennedy Center never honored her. All she did for the arts in this country! Shame Shame Shame on the Kennedy Center!!!

  • @leontyne2 She served 20 years on the New York State Council on the Arts. In 1991, she received the National Medal of Arts from President George H. W. Bush.

  • @leontyne2 Hold the phone, we all loved Kitty but surely you can't mean she deserved one of the Kennedy Center Honors??? An arts patron and game show panelist comprised like 80% of her total output, and the other 20%, although good, never rose to the heights So please, let's not get away with ourselves.

  • Here's an early sign our society (for good or bad) was starting to become more casual. Notice the name plates all have the panelists' first names, whereas in earlier years they would say "Miss Francis"; "Mr Cerf"; etc. Hats would start to fall out of fashion in a few years. Eventually the wearing of suits would go by the wayside. These days on talk or game shows, everybody is in blue jeans, maybe just a t-shirt, on a first-name basis, unshaven, making crude jokes, talking about their sex lives.

  • Very true, Beejjjjjj.

    Dignity?

    Class?

    Charm?

For the life of me, I can't think of any celebrity who's come of age in the past 15 years we could give those adjectives to.

It's precisely because of the absence of a "new" Dorothy Kilgallen or Arlene Francis that I ditched my cable in favor of DVDs and YouTube. I'd rather watch talent from 50 years ago for the 3rd time than today's talentless garbage even once. It's a better investment of my watching-time.

  • Bennet is still wearing his "television blue" shirt that they had to wear in the early days of black and white.

  • What would you give to have been a guest at any dinner party where Arlene, Martin, Bennett and Kitty Carlisle were all present?

  • Oh to have been at a party like that. They were ALL class acts! RIP, Arlene, Martin, Bennett and Kitty!

  • I had the great good fortune to be a guest in Mrs. Hart's home for towards the end of her life. She retained every bit of glamour, charm and warmth then as she showed her on television!

  • You know what? It's not the b/w kinescope, CBS network Sunday evening variety of WML, but it DOES give you Arlene, Bennett, and the uber-glamorous Kitty in color on videotape- later in life, but still as erudite as ever and a tad closer to our lifetime. I can't complain.

  • G-T put Arlene Francis under contract when they created the syndicated WML. ( 3:36 ) Bennett Cerf appeared as a panelist on a monthly?? basis, particularly in 1971. He sat on the panel that memorable afternoon Rep. Gerald Ford appeared as a mystery guest.

Some complain that syndicated WML reduced the game length They did so to increase post game interviews. Brunner interviewed nearly as well as did Daly: the play Kitty discusses, written by late husband Moss Hart, sounds like fun.

  • Kitty just screams high society, but then also she seems so personable and down-to-earth. Class act all the way.

And, of course, sweet Arlene....beautiful as ever.

  • Aww, two of my favorite people, Arlene and Kitty :D
