  • it was a good video until you started using your hands. I really dont like to get that dirty if i dont have to.

  • Why didn´t you use some sand to stop the ash burning?!

  • @PattafixBob I did not use sand because I am in a woodland and there is not sand about. On the Mendips there is very little surface water.

  • completeley unnecessary doing what you did when you put out that fire

seems like you were really enjoying it, ya fuckin perv

  • DIdn't you see how to build the upside down fire, as opposed to being shown(which implies two way interaction)?????

    cheers

  • hi in the local woods i stay in i keep a small garden trowl in a wood store i've constructed i let the fire grdualy burn out then ill poor water or pee on the embers and ground generaly we both get the same desiered effect could be an idea to spare your hands thanks good vids by the way

  • thats a good thing that your son is intrested in bushcraft

  • Cheers for sharing. You'd never know you were there! I did the upside down fire with 3 of my kids when we were out last time and it worked a treat, kicking out high up from the start - great way to get warm quick. They had turkey legs hanging above the fire, adjusting the length of the cord via loops. Cracking set up and a definite must for anyone to try. Well done Sean

  • Thank you

  • my son likes to pee on it to make sure the fire out

  • nice vid :) its gd to see u taking so much care to make sure the fires out and to cover ur tracks .. ive learned loads from ur vids well done m8 n ty

  • you can actually save water by sprinkleing it over the coals rather than just dumping it this way it covers a larger surface area

  • Please continue making video's but please turn up the volume.

  • why use valuable water to put out the fire. Why not burry it.

  • Lots of forest fires are started that way. Fires can burn under ground for months reigniting miles from it original source, especially in pine and peat forests. My method ensures there is no chance of the fire reigniting. After you have put iut the fire feel the soil and see just how hot it is.

  • What does this mean?

  • he said that you were wasting water when you could bury it then you won the argument.

  • The way I do my fires is by completely clearing the ground where it is to be as well as a small area next to it. I carry a small military shovel and dig a small pit about 3" deep carefully putting the dirt in a pile where I cleared the ground next to the pit. When I am ready to leave camp I just bury the coals and snuff them out. There is no danger of any leaves or debris getting reignited because I cleared the area where I put the pile, dirt only.

  • I will forever consider myself a student .. so I'm no expert.. but it has been my understanding that there is concern in some environment and under certain conditions that burying a fire could allow it to burn and travel underground. I thought this was why sean was so serious about checking underground?? I guess you guys or sean can speak to this for me but I believe sean's method of clearing camp has been the absolute best I've seen and what I will practice in the future.

  • i vote pissing on the fire :)

  • Brilliant video Sean, I off camping next week in North Wales, wild camping that is. Learnt alot from your videos. What camera do you use Sean? Paul

  • at 8:45 i thought he was about 2 be bombed

  • lol move to Scotland m8 no rod licence up ere...hehehehe ;) keep up the good work. u could maybe do a video playin ur harp round ye old camp fire..i take my geetar when i camp.

  • Nice 1 Sean if only all campers looked after their site like you...I go to Loch Lomond camping and you should see the state of the place, Not pretty i can tell ya! Love the fire technique need to try that 1. and i was gonna ask to b4 the other guy from Bonnie Scotland did... about rivers and do u fish at all? the spoons were ace m8 but what else do you do at night to keep entertained n stuff?

  • I havent fished for years. I dont have the time with everything else I do. And the cost of the licence and permits out way the few times a year I might go. Maybe when I retire or win the lottery. Chat with mates, experiment with kit and practice bushcraft skills. If all else fails and I 'm on my own I play my harmonica.

  • The upsidedown fire is pretty cool hey! I seen that on pauls channel too! that does save alot of work if your staying in one spot for any length. definetly must try it. Thanks for the awesome demo!

  • So the upside down fre works pretty well then. I hate having to spend all my time maintaining a fire. You become a slave to a badly build fire.

Il give that one a go for an overnight.

  • what area do you go camping about?.. im asuming its near your house as you go out allot. beautiful forests and all what you need. is there rivers to drink from like there is here in Scotland.?

  • All of the woods i use are within 15mins to 45 mins form my house by car. On the Mendips there are very few streams and no rivers so I have to carry all my water in with me.

  • hi sean plzzz can you do a video on wat u would take in your saber cat for a week camp

  • Great video, as always. Would love to see ur cooking hardware and technique for making that wonderful meal.

  • Hell yeah! Would love to see what other people do different from me and my mates. Our camp is right beside the river and we have our fire surround made of rocks adn adn nice wee pit dug down to get plenty of heat for us and for cooking.

  • Great Video STSF!!! Keep up the great work!

  • Excellent video Sean, It's nice to see someone put out a fire the right way and leave the area in great shape!!!!!5/5...fav....thanks, Jeff

  • great video again sean audio seems to be fine now as well

  • hi sean

i also live in the uk i was wondering where abouts i could go propper camping

    with tarp fire ect

i live near derbyshire so if you know anyware near there please tell me

    thanks rob

  • Rob I do not know Derbyshire. I would suggest joining of the bushcraft forums and ask on them.

    Good luck.

  • thanks i will do

  • hiya rob i was living in manchester for a while and im a keen bushcrafter my self and spent most of my weekends in the pennines and surrounding areas.its very hard to find places for wild camping as such around there.i now live in north wales but still go down and teach some of the young uns bushcraft at undisclosed place but would love to know if you got any joy if you found some where down there cheers mate ...tenbuks !!

  • Sean, you are a good man - I love hearing that you are out spending time in the outdoors with your kids. Thank you for another great video.

  • just curious sean, are there any predators or dangerous snakes in the UK.?

great vid by the way. 5*

  • We get a snake called an adder but unless you tread on it you are safe. There is nothing to fear in the UK, so ground camping is fine.

  • My favourite video so far. Shame about that airtraffic though, sort of disrupts the peace of the forest. The ground in that forest looks nice and dry. My local woods is covered in deep soft soaked moss and the forest is like a sponge, very humid and damp. Looking forward to more of your vids.

  • The Backpackers motto: Leave No Trace!

You make a fine example Sean

  • COULDU do a vidon wa food u bring out with u

  • No problem. I am away this weekend for four days and will do something then.

  • Great video Sean. If only everyone would show the same level of respect to their camp sites. Looked like a cozy little set up you have there too. 5* mate.

  • hey sean great video, when you scatter leaves were yuve had your fire what would you do if you were camping in a field with grass.. and were yud had your fire it had burnt away the grass but u wonted to cover the burnt grass up what would u suggest doing from that?

  • When camping on grass I always remove the turf layer and keep it away from the fire grass side up. Water through out your stay. Then replace the turf when you leave. Water the turf well again.

  • remove it using what though?

  • Sorry I always carry my stick which has a metal flat spade end to it. I use that. I would suggest you carry either a folding spade or trowel. You could carve a flattened end to a thick stick and use that to remove the turf.

  • right thanks a lot sean :) helped a lot love all your videos. thanks

  • also, by mixing the ashes ad coals with the soil, you are tripling the fertility of the soil...It's an ancient Mayan technique for keeping the soil fertile for farmers! It is still used to this day.

  • I was not aware of that. Thanks

  • Great example Sean!! Good to see a responsible person putting out a fire!! you wouldn't believe how many fires I have to respond to in the run a summer, because people did not follow simple rules for putting a fire out. 5/5, ED

  • nice one sean ,,as it should be done,

  • You are an amazing father. An amazing soul and a beautiful man (and thats comming from a bloke!). An inspiration to me and to everyone. Because of you I have learnt and done soooooooo much! Where do I go from her?.. well... nowhere! Bye Bye. Love you man, thats all. Peace and let the flame grow high!

  • Imagine how much better the world would be if everyone were this responsible in their behavior .

  • awesome vid thanks silverfox and son beautiful.

  • first yay me but i didnt know u had a son how did he like the overnight camping trip?

nice fire technique i think paul did that vid for me :)

  • He has camped out with before and really enjoys it. He is 15 now and is doing the Duke of Endinburgh Award in outdoor pursuits so its good training for that. He is too camera shy to be in the videos though.

Also I mentioned that I got the idea from Paul at Hedgehog Leather works

  • great video that type of fire looks awsome ill have to try it one thing i might suggest how ever is maybe if u sprinkled the water over the burnt ashes with your hands instead of pouring it on it saves the water and it covers a bigger area but other than that its a cool video

  • Good tip, I'll try that becuase where I camp there is no natural water so I have to carry it all in. And you can see how much I used just to extinguish the fire. So any tips to save water is greatly apprciated. Thanks
