@T3HM3T4L haha i was gonna bring up heathens song :P. its just the first chord though, the rest of the riffs are different. But what do you expect. It sounds fucking awesome. I doubt the bands heard eachother(these bists in the songs) back then so whats stopping them from copying.
@OxidadoEnPaz As much as I like Dave Mustaine, I don't believe he's capable of bending space and time just yet. When is off The World Needs A Hero, which came out in 2001 while all the other songs came out in the 80's if I'm not mistaken. Also, could you tell me where you can hear that riff in When? I never noticed it :D
@T3HM3T4L well, Mustaine claims to had written that riff back in the years when he was in Metallica. If you see the credits for "The call of Ktulu", you would find Mustaine's name. He composed "When" with that riff intentionally... of course that's a long after all these songs. You can hear that riff in "When" at the beginning of the song, but it is much slower than all of these versions.
@OxidadoEnPaz Right, that intro! It's been so long since I've listenend to When decently XD Yeah, I know dave wrote that intro to The Call Of Ktulu, because you referenced it in such a way I just now thought you were talking about Hangar 18 and how Dave used that same thing there as well.
Everybody gets into these "they ripped off so and so" debates, but the truth is back in the day the whole scene was working COLLECTIVELY to take the music to a higher level. Each band took everything the bands before did and built on it. And everybody was always looking for the next level...the bands, the fans...the scene used to have unity into it splintered into the typical genre division and such. :)
This songs just got an arpeggio in common, who goes ups and down two times, How could you think that is a rip off? I really like both songs, and the controversy here is senseless.
haha lol this metallica toxik comparison is funny. Josh Christian is like 5000 times more superior to Kirk. I think Kirks head will blow into pieces when he'd hear this guitar.
this was released before heathen's song. in other words heathen ripped off toxik whom ripped off metallica. they're all good bands though (except new metallica).
@petewentzisafaggot They ripped off Metallica because it's thrash metal? Because it's progressive? That's not really a ripoff. If you want to think of it like that, Metallica was a ripoff of punk and heavy metal bands. I'm pretty sure Metallica wasn't the first thrash metal band either.
@ThatThrashKid Well, the influences of thrash can be heard in stuff from the late 70s like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, but the first true mainstream thrash band was probably Venom, which cam two years before Metallica even formed.
@CristopherBecker Yeah, act like you didn't knew "epic" was a popular expression for describing the grandiosity of someting (or whatever your definition is).
@CristopherBecker How sad. That much homoerostism in such a small word must be painful and heartbreaking for you to have to read it on the internet. Don't give up!
Pure goosebumps

His voice definitely takes some time to get used to but an awesome album nonetheless.
And yea the part around 0:51 sounds like The Call Of Ktulu which I still can't play, lol.

@ShreddinThrash I know, but I just found it funny, I was listening to the songs and all of a sudden "Wait, wasn't that the same one?" O-o
T3HM3T4L 6 months ago
@T3HM3T4L Indeed, I have heard that riff in many songs.
1. Toxik - 47 Seconds Of Sanity/Count Your Blessings
2. Metallica - The Call of Ktulu
3. Heathen - Heathen's Song
4. Cyclone Temple - I Hate Therefore I Am
5. and what about the "inventor" of that riff, Mustaine --> Megadeth - When
