A search for original lyrics comes up with both versions. I distinctly remember the version with 'You're in between 20 an 30...' from early FM radio. Probably an LP version and trimmed down 45 single version. Maybe the verse was considered sexually suggestive. Van Morrison's 'Brown Eyed Girl' similarly has 2 versions also. The verse 'Sometimes overcome thinking about (laughin' and a runnin' hey hey/ making love in the green grass) behind the stadium with you'.
A classic song is born when the artist's powers of creativity reach a point of implosion only to explode out again in Lyrics,Tune,Music, and Vocals, all of which are wrapped up in a storm of emotions, in a fleeting moment ,comparable to the combined forces of a hurricane where an ocean ends at high rock faces extending horizontally to endless miles and rise well up to the sky. And Peter Sarstedt and his 'Where Do You Go To My Lovely' is but one powerful example of such forms of creativity.
We saw him perform this live in Skegness about a couple of years ago and he is still in fine fettle - brought the house to its feet and so he should - a classic REAL artist, God bless him.
i love the fact that it shows how the "cool" people live in these freaky high apartments, these bad ass "new" fanny apartments..... Peter Sarstedt is originally from India. An Indian singer named Anjan Dutta has covered this song in bengali called "Mala"
