  • one reason muscle milk sucks big time besides the sugar and all the fat and calories is that its loaded with MSG as well. Out of all the protein powder products out its probably the worst, but somehow the most popular, i guess people are drawn to seeing adrian peterson pulling a car and go out and buy that crap.

  • The reason I disagree with cardio first is it depletes all your muscle glycogen stores, its better to lift first and use the glycogen so you have the energy to fuel your workout and then do the cardio in the hopes of burning calories and fat and fuel.

  • This was a very good tip. I made one of these yesterday, its great! Taste very good. And it was a bit fun to do as well :-)

Looking forward to more great clips!

  • I bought a blender of the model that you recommend on your site. It works great and now I'm looking forward to my frozen banana/protein powder shake each morning.

  • How old you can take protein???

  • Oh, I do this at home. But it isn't THAT great.

    It's definitely a good alternative.

  • hi scooby i like ur vids u r so0o0o0o funny but can u tell us about the whey protine side effects plz ?

  • whey protein doesn't have side effects its natural no funny stuff in it but make sure u buy a good company one not some cheap rubbish.

  • whey protein has no side effects that I know of.

  • Great video as always, Scooby!

Also i really like the setting of your last couple videos. The green plants look really nice in the background.

  • I already practice more than one year muscular activity the but I feel still insecure to use protein supplements, you think to drink wyen protein has some against indication to the or danger in some way ?

I would also like to know other feeding forms to substitute the alimentary supplements or complement them?

    tanks for attention

  • just look for food high in protein could use peanuts, brazilian nuts and other nuts and fish as well the best fish for protein is tuna.

how i make my shake is i use a banana, milk, peannut butter, and oats. or sometimes other nuts as well and it does work but yet again whey protein is good if u can afford a good and reliable make and they do cost a lot of money to get a good brand search on google u see loads of options for protein shakes.

  • Excellent. I'll get to freezing some bananas!

  • Hi Scooby, I want to ask about my diet. at the moment i have cut fizzy drinks out and sweets for a couple of months now, but today i drank a fizzy drink. Is this bad thing or is it ok every once and a while? Also i take a protein shake after my workouts with a spoonfull of Creatine. It does say on the tub take 2-3 a day (of the protein powder) but i am only having 1 at the moment. Will this still help my muscles recover and build or do i HAVE to take it 2-3 a day?

    Thanks Rob

  • they say 2-3 a day because the more you do, the more money they make. all you gotta make sure you do is get a lot of protein and have it spread out throughout the day. you should be getting at east 20 per meal, and i usually aim for 30, plus i drink 40 after working out. the key is to not get all your protein in one sitting.

  • How much protein you need depends on your weight: 1 g per lb of bodyweight is the rule of thumb. More won't help.

Also check Scooby's site under Nutrition. There's loads of information on the subject.

  • hi scuby i have a question how come i havent gained any weight over the course of my high school years freshmen year i was at 140 and senior year im still at 140 what im i doing wrong?

  • christ scuby's not that good!

  • great shake i tried it. thanks man, u rock. i hav been following your workouts they r great

  • Great recipe's and videos as always scoob.

    You're the man!

  • Comment removed

  • dude those bananas look like a bag of cocks.

  • candy bars in a shake? Tasty, perhaps but certainly not healthy.

  • Hi Scuby ,

Love your videos and thanks for educating us .

You use a soy milk as healthy alternative to milk , I assume you are not aware that say milk is made from GM ( genetically modified ) soy . Not sure if you know what GM does to your health but if you need any info I'l be glad to provide you with links , articles etc.

    Take care

  • Some foods dont make sense to by organic but milk certainly does, its why I mention organic in this video. Personally I prefer rice milk or soy milk for the reasons you mention and more.

  • sucks that im elergic to Bananas. you know anything eles that i can use that wont be mega calories?

  • First thing I've tasted with protein powder that tastes really nice! Good work!

  • protein powder healthy? ok. It's better to eat tuna, it's alo high on proteins.

  • but not everybody likes tuna....so protein powder is good

  • gotta point there. it's healthier and cheaper if that's the problem, but they perfected those protein powders, so there is nothin to worry about. when i come home from the gym i like to eat tuna, it's tasty and a great supper.

  • Everything has its problems, tuna is no exception. Tuna is fine occasionally but because of the mercury eating it as your sole source of protein would cause health problems.

  • yeah, bet that the shake tastes great with zuna :-P ;-)

  • Hi scooby,

Your videos have really inspired and helped me start with my exercises. Would it be possible that you do a video on protein shakes for the beginner? Please include things like best types, what to look out for how much to consume and topics like that.

    Thanks

  • yeah! Seing scooby's shape and to think that's achievable with healthy eating and determination (and weight training obviously) I think whey protein comes down to preferance, what you want to get from them, aside from protein obviously - and saying that some have more protein than others. I used to wonder how much to consume and when...

  • (continued...) In my experience a whey protein shake is used as a meal replacement, if you're say at the gym and dont have time to eat. Count it as one of your 1/6 daily intake of protein but only have 1 shake daily. It will state on the label too much will just make your stomach sick. Shakes can be taken anytime throughout the day pre or post workout. Hope this helps - Somebody please comment if I've missed anything

  • Oh so that's why you don't mention tuna much, I thought it might be because of the mercury. Great what a joke, oh well nice vid man. That chocolate banana protein shake looks delicious!

  • hi scooby i am 14 yrs old how do i train

  • get your ass to the gym!

  • LOL KEEP CLICKING AT 0:26 AHAH

  • Hey Scoob; quick question, what do you think is the best time to take a protein shake? I've gotten good reasons for all of them; before to gain more protein, during to stay hydrated and build protein, and after to refill yourself. I'm currently taking them after and gaining weight and some muscle, what do you think?

  • Yo.

    Best times?

FIRST thing in the morning, LAST thing at night, and RIGHT after you work you do a work out.

  • you think this would taste good with strawberry protein powder and frozen strawberries with milk? using one flavor or protein gets really boring after a while.

  • lol you are great scooby

  • will any protein powder do? For example, will rice protein work? or does it have to be whey protein

  • may i also recommend kashi cereals, specifically kashi go lean. 1 cup=200 calories, 13g of protein and 5g of fibre. its delicious, you can even add fresh fruit like strawberries which i do every morning. combine that with 2 cups of non fat milk to get about 380 calories and 31g of protein and you can even add some strawberries to it as well for an even more nutritious meal; 1 small strawberry=2 calories and large=5 calories

  • when do you drink these ? be for or after exerises ?

  • it doesn't matter when you drink it because it's considered a meal. what matters is that you're consuming your protein intake every 2-3 hours for 5-6 meals.

  • Just a quick question........if,lets say, I really like strawberry milkshake......could you substitute frozen strawberries and strawberry whey powder?

Or does it not work like that? :-D Thanks for any responses!

  • I see no reason against it. Personally I like to use a strawberry protein powder and throw a banana in.

  • What protein powder do you recomend

  • fuck protein...

    go roids

  • Reading Scooby's web site, he uses Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard 100% Natural Whey. He says to "make sure the protein is filtered or isolated whey".

  • cottage cheese is also an amazing source of protein that you can include in your meals.....the type i use has 100 calories with an impressive 15g of protein for half a cup which is also perfect for vegetarian bodybuilders

  • watch the cottage cheese, it can be really high in fat unless you are careful to get the nonfat variety.

  • Thank you for another great video Scooby!

  • scooby heres a question, ive herd that consuming to much soy products, soy milk being one example, soy protean shake being a rather worrying other can lower testosterone levels in men. which is a bad thing for people who want to gain muscle at an optimum speed, wb

  • is it ok if i use muscle milk or does it need ot be like whey protein?

  • Watch Scooby's video on reading nutrition labels. Muscle Milk has TOO MUCH fat! Remember...you want to stay in the 10 percent range for fat calories. Muscle Milk powder is 55 calories from fat out of 150 total calories making it over 33% fat...X (buzzer).

  • btw my height is 5'6 and my pound is 130lbs. Keep on doing more vids they are really helpful and informative.Tyvm and Id really be happy if you could add me as friend because this video is the only way for me to ask you advises.Sorry if comment is in 2 part I was using too much caracters

  • I am 15 years old and Ive been training for like 1 month only and I take protein milkshake like ''whey'' and Ive taken 9 pounds . I know that 9 pounds is maybe not just muscle, but Im really not fat but little bit thin.I want to have bigger pecs and to get a little bit of fat on my ribs because I am too thin. What should I eat to achieve my goals?Should I take a little bit of fat food or I should follow your advises which means low calories, high proteins?

  • Weight can either be muscle or fat. To gain more muscle work out, but be prepared that 4 lbs of muscle after a year of working out is probably the most you can expect. To gain more fat, eat loads of high energy foods.

9 lbs of muscle after four weeks of training is very unlikely.

  • no really..10x for this video. I'm making this shake all the time now. It's a good substitute for one of my 5-6 meals...i think...

  • 1.say yo name 10 timez

    2.say your mama"z name 5 (x)

3.say your crushes name 3 timez

4.then paste this to four other videosif you do your crush will kiss you on the nearest friday!!♥♥But if you read this and did not paste it,then you"ll have bad luck and your daddy gunna lose hiz job ☺☻♥♦♣♠•◘

  • Thank you scooby1961 so much for all your great and informative videos.

You made losing weight and gain muscles, can be done in really easy steps.

    Excellent and thank you from

    AlBaghdady

  • i have that same protein powder but i have the soy version anyways i dont know if it is whey or soy the one that is used on the video but i think is whey

  • You are correct, it is Whey.

  • is it ok to use 2% milk? I don't want to gain anymore weight.

    I just started eating healthy.

I know its probobly not ideal but I used to drink a 2L of Pepsi every day and a half so I think it will be fine for me.

  • if you want to start to eat healthy thats a pretty good

option, i know its not non fat milk but you cant go

from drinking 2L of cola to eat vegetables and

chicken in every meal, i mean is not as good

as non fat milk but its a starting point

  • use nonfat, 2% milk is 2% fat by the volume of the milk container, but easily 10-20% fat by serving.

  • Ya, That shake is really tasty. I seen another version of this same video a while back on your page and i been doing it ever since. I cant wait till you make more vids Scooby its been a while.

  • wow that looks really tasty. gotta by myself a shaker and try it out.

  • hey i have that exact protein powder. its called gold standard casein..

  • so what do u do for a living?

  • hes an engineer

  • you forgot to mention that it tastes like sunshine!

  • hey scooby, im 166 pound, how much protein should i need in a day to gain my muscle and maintain my muscle mass?? thanks

  • i'm not scooby but you should need about 60 grams a day to maintain your muscle if you have a average bodyfat% and when your trying to gain muscle atleast 20% of your diet should be protein so a 2500calroies diet 500 calories would be for protein, a protein gram= 4 calories so like 125grams so basically eat twice the amount you would need

  • You need 1 g per lb of bodyweight.

  • Man I could drink this stuff all day xD Really a nice drink when it's hot outside and you want a quick fillup.

  • werdo you buy 100% natuel choc wey protein tesco?

  • no look online

  • The Martha Steward for the buff lol.

  • Frozen bananas is a great idea! Theres no point in watering down your shake with ice. Thanks Scooby!

  • Hey Scooby, that was a good shake! Keep the healthy snack ideas coming : )

  • I like how the frozen banana makes the shake really smooth and creamy. Thanks for the tip!

If you can stand the extra calories and fat, try adding a spoonful of natural peanut butter. It goes great with the chocolate/banana flavor.

  • I just tried it and it tastes really good!

  • Strawberry-flavored whey with guava juice is the best match ever. Give it a try.

  • looks so good

  • where can I purcahse the protein mix?

  • Anywhere from Wal-Mart to GNC and health stores. The latter has better brands and thusly, they taste better. The stuff at Wal-Mart tastes, well, like you bought it from Wal-Mart =P. Look to spend anywhere from 20 to 60 dollars depending on the brand and the size.

(BTW, don't buy anything other than Chocolate your first time. Trust me, you'll be sorry)

  • I get the one with no flavor :D

  • scooby how do u find out how much the body need protein cal fat carb ? i rly need that

  • imherelol: Check out Scooby's nutrition charts in 6-pack abs part 2-nutrition or bulking up videos (you can find links to the right or on Scooby's page. There are guidelines for how much protein you need and how many calories you need. You need a little bit of fat, and the rest of the calories should come from complex carbs (like wholegrains).

  • scooby sir im very excited just by watching ur videos i wish i could workout with you (no homo) :D

  • Man , when I saw all your videos about body building , and training , i thought your body is 100% pure training and correct eating , and when i see you use some king of powders in your drinks , its just not right . I know there are allot of researches

about this , and I know its "100%" natural but using chemistry in your body is not right .

Correct me if im wrong .

  • There's nothing artificial in this drink. Ideally we'd prepare & sit down to 6 high-protein, low-fat meals per day, 7 days a week, but very few of us have the time to fit that into a busy work, training and social schedule so these shakes can act as a 100% natural meal replacement. Not replacing a main meal like your normal dinner, but one of the six small meals we'd ideally be eating. Don't confuse pure whey protein with "using chemistry". It's no more chemical than powdered milk.

  • tolydude123 you are the reason scooby blocks comments on his videos. You are a moron sir.

  • elSE3DY: I disagree- I think he's misunderstood the nature of protein powders, but that doesn't make him a moron, and he's just expressing an opinion and doing so without being offensive about it. IMO it's people who are being deliberately offensive and/or inciting hatred who are the problem.

  • You Fail. I like how you try to to be offensive to me by not mentioning my name but to a group of people. The fact you do it in such a sly way is just pathetic.

  • elSE3DY: It wasn't a veiled criticism. I just meant that those people are the problem, not someone like tolydude123. I don't really make snide comments and it didn't occur to me that it would come across that way.

  • tolydude123: The body has it's own complex chemistry and everything we put into it has some effect on that. Different foods have different effects on body chemistry, some very subtle and some not so subtle (such as coffee). Whey protein is just a form of food as far as I'm concerned- no different to taking the juice from a lemon or the oil from some olives. Most food we eat has gone through some form of processing, it's pretty hard to avoid, even cooking changes it from its natural state.

  • hey scooby, i have a question that doesn't have much to do with this video, but i think it's the only vid i can still comment on. does smoking cigarettes reduce any progress i am hoping to make through my workouts?

  • Yes, without a doubt. Your reduced lung capacity is going to hinder oxygen distribution to your muscles just when they need them most. It impairs the uptake of essential nutrients. It also has a toxic effect on EVERY organ in the human body. It's arguably the worst legal thing you can do to your body in terms of BBing.

Besides it being common sense there's a lot of science out there on the subject. Just Google "smoking bodybuilding" for a start and check out the results for yourself.

  • thought so.. been hearing different things, oddly enough. thank you.

  • Well good luck quitting it mate. If you're making gains as a smoker just think how many more you'd make as a non-smoker and how much longer you'll live to enjoy them. What you have may have heard to the contrary is that nicotine can act as a stimulant which is true but obviously you're taking in a lot more than just nicotine when smoking and all of it's toxic. I guess the gum or patches are your way to go for replacement and taper it off, so all the best to you!

  • Just a tip for you people after a workout

Its more better to take the carbs first then protein. So you dont use the protein as energy. When you make that kind of shake you risk that some of the protein be used as energy.

  • The reason these videos are important is that the main problem that many people have getting 6-pack abs is that they consume too many "hidden calories" . The best place to eliminate those useless, hidden calories is in what you drink. Make SURE you dont drink empty calories! I'm disabling comments on this video now because I just uploaded my next beverage video. Please comment on that one instead.

  • Packeralger you got it exactly right! All you need to do is read the label on the muscle milk and you will see that its not appropriate for anyone trying to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time - WAY too much fat and calories

  • I want your muscle

  • nice tits!

  • YOUR BACK! I LOVE YOU SCOOBY! I use your training program at the fitness mall, and it works great! <3

Glad to see a new video from you again. I'm gona try that shake you just showed in your video!

  • what is the name of the whey protein brand?

  • Optimum Nutrition

  • NiGGA iT LOOKS LiKE WHEN YOU DRINK iT YOU DONT EVEN LiKE THE TASTE xD xD xD

  • i have the same cup u have!!!! lol

  • I just add 1/4 cup oatmeal and instead of milk, water. The oatmeal gives it a creamy texture. :)

  • noname91910 I will have to try the oatmeal but I'm worried that it will give it a gritty texture. I DO love oatmeal though and its healthy and full of fiber so I'll give it a try!

  • this is so good i make one everyday now

  • Scooby, I was wondering. does muscle milk work? I just bought 3 and drank 1. I wann akno wif it'll really help. also, is it possible to have "to much" protien... today I've had over 100 protein and 1250 calories (about) not incuding the workout later. But is hgaving to much protein BAD? Thanks in advance

  • Good stuff Scooby, really appreciate what you're doing.

  • Scoopy, I really like your video's, you are someone that could be an excellent coach due to its personality.

Just one off-topic note though, you have a massive body but somehow I have the feeling that your trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles are not as good developed as the others... Or am I wrong?

    Forgive my curiousity.

  • i love you scoopy good going man

ill get my mother to make me this very soon(:

  • hey scooby,i recently put on a good bit of weight mostly fat......now i want to put on muscle while staying the same weight

  • That would be hard. Either you loose fat trough cardio and gym, or you lay on a calorie surplus so the body can build muscle.

  • No, you don't need a "calorie surplus" to build muscle. A surplus would be energy that the body doesn't need and it gets stored for times of need - as fat.

Check Scooby's site under Stupid Myths > Bulking and Cutting.

  • Aim to keep your weight steady and do resistance training. Over time your body's composition will change.

Check Scooby's site under Bulking Up to find out how to go about it.

  • hey scooby...when i pinch my fat at my bellybutton its around 1 cm...i think im actually kind of fat...does anyone know around what %body fat that is? i wanna have a clear idea where im at right now... thanks for the vid btw! keep them coming!

  • btw...i heard crunches are actually not that great...the bicycle exercise, from googling, is the most effective ab exercise...

  • Pinching 1cm of fat near the belly button is really quite lean, congratulations! I would suggest not getting hung up on an exact bodyfat percentage number, what really matters is how you look. If you are too gaunt and every vein shows, you should probably gain some fat. If the bottom of your 6/8-pack abs is obscured by a layer of fat then you should probably lower your bodyfat.

  • haha scooby, in the chest workout video it looks like we have the same pillows and in this one the same cups, and also have a few of the same looking weight bars.... wierddddd. too bad we dont have the same muscles hahahaa

  • hey nice one!

i will try it, but today its very cold xD so another day :D

it sounds quite good, and the frozen banana hint too!

haha but it looks kinda funny, all the frozen bananas in that plastic bag :D

  • yo scooby add me i send u an invite plzzz

  • Search "Happy Rob Buy" by google ,and you will find amazing.

  • Search "Happy Rob Buy" by google ,and you will find amazing.

  • ok..in Romania we only have regular milk, (low fat milk 2-3 % fat) , and a milk with 0,1% fat. Of course i'm using the one with 0,1% fat. I didn't come across a milk with 0% fat so i'm asking 0,1% is good also..RIGHT???? :| 32 kcal/100 ml, 3.2 g protein, 4.5 g sugars, 0,1 g fat. That's the nutritional aspects. Is it good or is it bad?

  • adev cica e bun:D

  • Milk with 0.1% fat is considered "fat-free".

  • hey scooby, any plans for your next video?

  • can a 14 year old drink this? o-o

  • yup

  • Scooby you're a legend...

  • i do agree my friend, sometimes people on this site are just plain stupid. the main reason i asked was because i've seen many of ur other videos(and i mean a lot) and all the comments are blocked and when u put up the new one i really liked it because i could express my thoughts and that question popped into my head first.

  • sexomaticveganawesomefreak....thank you!

  • Haha! That made me smile :)

  • Phantastic! noiw just tell me you are female and living in Indiana or Texas....and you'll make me super smile.... ;-)

  • LOL! Don't tell me you came here to pick up chicks? Sorry, I'm nowhere near Indiana or Texas...

  • Scooby or someone! Where is that video of you in the kitchen scooby? You talk about what to eat...and show us how easy it is to make it....

  • 01123Brown: That would be 6-pack abs part 2, Nutrition. You should see it to the right (black & white image) or you can follow the links in this video or on Scooby's list of videos on his page.

  • Hey Scooby whats the name of the protein you use man, Becuase I have used two different kind of whey protein and I didnt gain alot of weight man, and im struggling to gain weight, doesnt matter fat or muscle I'm working out as well so it should be good

  • He always use Optimum Nutrition Whey, in his website you can see what is the one he likes I think is the 100% whey.

  • would this taste ok with strawberry protein powder? it's all i got :S

  • S0nArch: I don't see why not, Strawberry and Banana is a popular combination for yogurt drinks and smoothies, but only one way to find out :)

  • I make mine VERY similarly and use it as a meal. Same ingredients as scooby's but I add 1 packet of plain instant oatmeal and a squirt of flax oil. Sometimes even a couple strawberries. GREAT filling breakfast!

  • nice shake so good

  • man you're so funny =D

  • Nice one, will try it out. Cheers scooby!

  • What I made is my vanilla shake powder mixed with water / Ice / and a sprinkling of coffee. It's beautiful.

  • hey scooby this frozen banana thing is awesome, and so delicous, im having this right now good work!

  • Thanks for all the videos!

  • thanks for the info, i mistyped it actually meant which protein powder u r using in this video, coz thr r like tonnes of them and people who use them in my gym rarely give honest opinions "check it on the internet" is always the suggestion.

  • Hey scooby. I'm just wondering is it ok to use Weight Gainers instead of Whey Proteins (1 cup: 185 calories, 23g of protein, 1g fat)?

I know Whey protein is much better but in my country only the products that have ubber cool names like Mass Fuel, Gain Fast, etc. are available for selling.

  • Weight gainers tend to contain a lot of empty calories and carbs.

Why not just buy whey protein online and have it delivered to you if it can't be found locally? Weight gainers as you may expect will help you gain more than just muscle, ie. fat, so unless that's an acceptable side effect for you I'd steer clear of them and just stick to whey protein.

  • Exactly right Bloodlustless! "Weight Gainer" powders just prey on people's mistaken belief that they can somehow add lots of muscle just by consuming a "Weight Gainer" - wrong! What "weight gainers" CAN do is make you gain lots of weight by getting FAT and this should not be any BBers goal.

  • Yes they do indeed, but I used them for a long time and since they only have 440 calories per meal, (40g proteins) I still gained a lot of muscle and almost no fat at all, so I'm pretty happy. anyway, my question was something else...

  • If you're serious about BBing you won't put any needless calories into your body & that's what weight-gainers do.

You must be working hard to burn off those 440cals if you're not gaining any fat. You can get 40g of protein from a whey shake & take in less than half that amount of calories meaning your time spent working out will be more about gaining muscle & less about burning calories.

But what works for u is good. Ur just having to work harder for the same results than if you stuck to whey.

  • I do highest possible intensity cardio, combined with Weight Lifting and Martial Arts so I burn a lot of calories...

  • Well, if if works for you and if you don't get fat from it, then go for the weight gainer. But, just as Bloodlustless said, basically they are just a lot of sugar. And you pay a lot for it. IMHO you might as well have a a Snickers or Mars bar.

Best yet, instead of protein powders and weight gainers eat food that is naturally high in protein (beans, milk, fish etc.).

  • your amazing for giving us all these tips and tricks for free scoob!!
