hey my dad is a commercil fisherman he used to gill net but now he longlines and albucore fishes off of the california coast in the ventura harbor he owns ventura 2
I don't see how any bycatch that is caught could be considered wasteful. All I hear about is bycatch caught by gill nets and how those fish thrown back is wasteful. If you throw a fish overboard what do you think happens to it. It doesn't just sit there and rot. Crabs, shrimp, seagulls, sea lice, pelicans, and hundreds of other fish, shellfish, crustaceans, and birds take advantage of these dead fish. NOTHING GETS WASTED OR KILLED FOR NO REASON. THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENS IS THE CIRCLE OF LIFE!
Gill netting is still legal in North Carolina where I fish, but its under fairly strict management with net sizes and lengths. I'm not sure about Florida. I think you can still gillnet outside 3 miles in the ocean for certain species. I have no idea about Louisiana, Allen can fill us in on that.
Kick a#s song. This is what I jam out to when I'm picking a net. Please post more videos. It feels like de'javu everytime I get on the internet. I cant get enough. Your videos get me jack ed up and ready to strike a fish. Keep the videos coming, and good luck on your next trip.
What a mess you get with government involved in fisheries. Now we're supposedly running out of sharks....yeah right. You can't drop a line in the water without either catching one or getting cut off. Bad data or somebodys imagination. I remember when the redfish were labeled an "underutilized species" and they encouraged an offshore commercial fishery for them. A few years later they even shut down the recreational fishery past 3 miles......Such idiots. The dead zone killed more in a day!
Its amazing how A Threatened fish like the Red Snapper Is all I can seem to catch anymore......BTW I see the queen fleet Linked..., I Used to live on the Gulf Queen till I Bought my own Boat ;-)
Yes they try to controll a species of fish and they take over but dont worry sharks soon will be the only thing we will be catching just what and see if something is not done soon about the nation marine fisheries their taking one fish at a time for no reason and sharks seem to be the next fish on their list to take away they will take over
If I was Holly I rather piss of a Mexican drug lord instead a Florida Commercial Fisherman
