A Tribute To GNER

Back in May 2004, I boarded the GNER 225 train to Glasgow Central as part of my trip along the East and West Coast main lines amazingly for one day. I enjoyed the journey so much.

i loved GNER, i saw 43238 in october, 43238 was the first HST to be repainted, and now it looks terrible! it is really mucky and hideous!

Gner certainly made there trains gleam. NXEC don't even know how to clean them, never mind mind make shine. NXEC are not bothered about image or reputation, just about making the franchise pay buy getting as many bums on seats for £8 as they can. And getting getting as many full fare paying passengers standing. And thats the governments fault and not really NXEC fault.

I used GNER all the time. I used NX for one week and everyday it was a) filthy inside b) filthy outside c) incredibly late with no word of explanation d)ridiculously overcrowded. Never, ever again. I didn't realise it was possible to feel affection for a train company but I really do miss GNER

I travelled on NXEC in September, and I agree with everything you have said there.

And it the end of my video I said good luck to NX because it was going to be a difficult job to be better than GNER and they haven't even tried!!! All they have achieved to to squeeze more bums on seats for £10 and those that pay the full walk on fare have to stand at the end of the coach or sit on the dirty floor.

Natex are all about bleeding ECML for every penny they can. They operate trains like sardine cans. All the trains are also really dirty. The NXEC livery is bloody awful compared to GNER's sleek, classy and shiny livery.

I have now decided that I never want to use trains in the UK again because BR is no longer easy or comfortable to use. Its a bloody nightmare!

I agree with what has been said. GneR was a fabulous outfit and will be sadly missed...With GneR, you paid a little more, yes, a little, but they did a really professional job and they did it when they SAID they would. I travel quite widely on the East Coast Main Line and have NEVER been on a NXEC train that has arrived or left on time!!! I have even on occasion committed the crime of going on Cross Country (formerly Virgin) rather than suffer National Express!!!

i think GNER should be brought back , the national express trains look ridiculous. at least with GNER the staff gave a dam about its passengers.

I travelled with national express last week on one of their trains down to london and they didnt apologise for it being late.

at least with GNER passengers got an apologie.

Bring back GNER! I am not happy with this NXEC crap! Leased trains from Midland Mainline, no branding on the trains...For heavens sake, I saw a train going north last week with carriages from THREE different companies!!! With GNER you MAY have paid a little more, but they did a really professional job and they did it when they SAID they would...I have not been on ONE NXEC train that has turned up on time!!!

Yes I agree and it looked better before NXEC decided to stop washing there trains.

The doors were painted red to help the visually impaired. I think it was an EU directive.

I totaly miss GNER! It was tons better than this Nation Express crap. Does anyone know why the doors got painted red when they used to be the same colour of the train?

Thanks for your kind words. I'm sure the video market will be flooded with DVD's of GNER over the next few years.

I still much prefer the GNER livery because of how clean and shiny it looked compared to the NXEC livery which is already looking dirty and drab.

I think its such a shame that the HST will not end there days in the iconic GNER livery.
