Even though you sold the Wrx :) Do you remember/can i ask you if you noticed a gain in torque, psi drop and/or smoothness in throttle response? I am looking into buying a TMIC for my Wrx 09 since i have leakage (running 20PSI on stock turbo/TMIC after pro-tune) Thank you, nice pulls btw :)
@Draslay31 Pressure drop went down by just over 1psi meaning power went up for the same psi setting. I ran 20.5psi on the WRX after pro-tune. TMIC definitely way to go for anything 400whp and below.
how's your clutch and tranny doing? just curious. I don't do launches hardly ever. In fact maybe 3 times in the year and half that I have ownder the car and I have had some bad luck with my transmission...wasn't sure if I had a "lemon" 2009 WRX stage 2 (perrin TMIC, ERZ downpipe and TBE, COBB Accesport Tuner, K&N CAI, ACT Street lightened flywheel, Short shifter, BFGoodrich All-Season Super Sport 235/45/ZR17...)
@Twotex187 It's illegal to go catless, as the car emits much more harmful gases. When it comes time to get your inspection you will fail. A lot of people swap them back to the stock one when they get tested. Also I've heard that going catless only yields a very small amount more horsepower. I have on 08 WRX and going stage 2 in June. Can't wait.
@Twotex187 the power gains from catless is very marginal. Having a cat makes the exhaust more environmentally friendly, and helps pass inspection later. Live in an area where modded cars as sort of acceptable but if you have no cat it just wont pass. Also acts like a muffler to some degree. If I was going for 450+HP level then catless only way to go. but sub 400 its not worth the couple hp gain for the extra eco impact.
@HellTriX I'm so jealous. I just got my 08 WRX last May. The new STi's are so sexy, but I just graduated college and couldn't afford one if I wanted to. I plan on gettin an STi in about 4 years. If you don't mind me asking how did you make out with the financing. I know it's gotta be a bitch!
wow man, amazing video and car. i love that one launch where your first gear just jumps to 40... sick. i got an 09 hatch stock except for spt exhaust. now i wanna go stage 2. so you think the fuel pump is an important mod? your driving is very impressive. have you done any handling mods too?
Yes, you don't want to be doing this kind of thing with traction control on, the power cut by the computer would much increase the risk of shock loads in the drive train and possible breakage. But I still recommend nobody launches their WRX just to be safe :P
@D3T3F Whithout replacing the fuel pump you will have to introduce a lot of boost taper at high RPM. I had that before replacing my fuel pump. Its like having 330ft/lbs of torque at around 4200 rpm but then right when you reach 5000-5500rpm you cut a ton of the power because your fuel pump can't keep up. So that great acceleration feeling dies right about then and makes you want to shift gears early. Without the fuel pump you might only have 280whp as opposed to 305whp at high rpm.
Great video. Ive got a wrx 09 and have some questions. mine reaches 136 mph for top speed at 5750 rpm, i think is limited by the computer. can you give me some tips for unlock this, so i can reach hegher speeds?
With a stock 265hp WRX, you may be reaching the horsepower aerodynamic limit of the car. The hatchback cars have quite a bit of high speed drag. If it is limited by the computer you can get an accessport which will not only give you more power but will also remove any speed limiters.
Depends on your power level. A stock 2009-2011 with stock tires, your looking at around 3500-4000rpm range. Remember don't just dump the clutch. You mash the throttle while letting the clutch out fast enough to keep the RPMs from shooting up but not so hard that you shock the transmission and send all 4 wheels spinning crazy-like.
@HellTriX thanks mate! i got the 2010 rex. new to the awd cars. always had rwd and just converted. lookin at the forums hearin the 5spd is a glass box, i dont wanna risk it till i got some cash pooled up for possible 6spd swap.
@hsc87 good research. and yes they are glass trannys but with proper driving u can make them last.. just dont dump or slam gears and u'll be fine for a long time but either way keep some cash saved.. thats wat i did..lol 06 sti swap ftw
@Disaster646 why thank you. lol i know with proper maintenance and care, everything lasts. but the care part im not so good with LOL. yeah i was thinking to just trading in the wrx for sti or buying an sti, since it costs less to swap than the diff btw the 2 cars.
@hsc87 the sti swap was 2700 flat pretty much.. i drove like 600 miles to pick it up tho.. cuz i wasnt gonna send a 3000shipped price over the net.. even with pay pal thats a lot..lol but i got a 02wrx with a 06sti swap and everything was plug n play besides some lil studs i had to order for the front axles and the driveshaft from a auto wrx other than that.. i got the tranny with shifter linkage and everything.. if u wanna know more u can find me in nasioc .. disaster646
@hsc87 well with a sti swap u can do a 5500rpm launch..or even 6000rpm launch.. but not dumping either.. ur clutch will suffer like crazy but u will launch really good.. i used to launch at 4300 to 4800 on the wrx tranny back in the days.. and i never broke it.. when it did break it went on 3rd gear.. so it wasnt cuz of launch.. just dont dump..lol
without a tune, probably 20-30hp more then stock with a higher risk of motor damage due to running lean. With a protune probably 50-55hp more then stock and knowing the motor is safe. My combination with the 3inch no cat, I would probably see 315-320hp instead of 302.
All just speculation and educated guessing to be perfectly honest.
need rally lc haha that way u actually build boost as well. over all nice video. not sure why u need to run through all the gears for your tuner. for my tune never had to do more then a 3rd gear pull
If your stop watch is accurate, 0-60 in low 4's. very nice! How are u launching it ? looks like u get it to about 3k rpm, then do you slip the clutch in, or just drop it? reply would be apreciated.
hold at 3k rpm, then a quick release of clutch (not a drop) while at the same time punching the gas to the floor. Once you find the sweet spot, the tires spin for a few feet and the clutch holds and you don't send a shockwave of a dropped clutch through the drivetrain. If the rpm drops below 3k at any time, your bogging it.
cool thanks! I might have to give it a shot. My 09 is still stock, Im not sure what Im gonna do to it first. It looks like what you've done is working pretty good.
With the stock engine power, you may need to start at 3500 to 4k rpm to get the same results. I must just warn you not to side step the clutch, or drop the clutch way to fast. If you drop the clutch get tirespin, then instantly going into a bog. Your walking in the territory if breaking the transmission, so I've read.
Some launches had so much wheel spin the tires where literally spinning at 30-40mph.
Also the weird flickering of the speedo cam is mostly due to it being a 25fps camera vrs the 30fps main camera so during encoding there is some frame interference.

Digitalfiendscom 2 years ago
Since I had the turner do the tune, I haven't really looked at the computer to see what my timings or anything else are for that matter.
The tune was done by Tim at surgline tuning in Portland Oregon. He did an excellent job.
