I think that in America we focus too much on marketing and advertising instead of quality of content or real "need". Travel around the world, and you'll clearly see the difference - we are very distracted here, severly so, and thanks to our "commercial" advertisers in large part!

You're absolutely right. For instance, at Mcdonalds the burgers are not gourmet or anything but the marketing sure is. Starbucks is similar -> lots of persuasion-marketing, shitty coffee. So the emphasis at the moment in the US is focused too much on how companies sell their product/s and how to create a need for products that are both cheap to manufacture and easy to sell.

Servicing genuine needs, expressing sincere appreciation to the customer, creating long lasting custmr satisfaction (not addiction), making benefits for the customr outside of business interactions with them, using music to enhance the level of well being of people who enter your business rather than using music to make them more suggestible (and therefore more open to manipulation).

These are just a few of the kinds of business directives that will lead the economy to better places.

advertising fits the society it panders to. be fair to each other, ads will have to be fair to work. if we valued each other, even imperfections, models couldn't make us ugly, tv couldn't offer an edge.

ads couldn't dictate how we eat, dress, live. what you hate is they're bossy, this kind of control makes you like it.

ALL of the fireworks during the opening ceremony were real. The home viewing audience just didn't get to see SOME of the ACTUAL fireworks live. They were instead shown that CGI picture because the viewing angles from above would have been too dangerous to actually film live. Yes, some of the images were faked, but all the fireworks were still there in all their glory.

@marjan -- no not kidding. The goal is to not use NEW DISPOSABLE plastics so that I become more aware of the needless plastic that I bring into my life. The stuff I already have makes sense to keep using -- would be more wasteful to throw out. It's about sustainability. You'd be surprised at how much junk plastic we use each day that we actually do not need.

He appears to be using Flash CS3, judging from the interface. Although I don't know why he would have the timeline at the bottom like that. Ah well.

There are free alternatives, such as Pencil, which you can use to do animation on a very low budget; but I seriously suggest investing in a graphics tablet if you haven't already.
