@idrawgirls i've been watching ur videos, they are so awesome. I've just started digital painting and was trying to figure out the types of brushes forever, the stuff i painted look like they have army paint on their face. (not well blend) i'd like to know the type of brushes too thanks!
Wonderful video. I'm having a really hard time drawing with my wacom in PS. I can't seem to find the right brush/opacity and the result is really weird. Do you have a tutorial on that? The really basic stuff.
I love how you discuss and emphasize tonal values over colour in your tutorials. I have been working on a piece with a Wacom tablet, and struggling with colour layers, but your videos have made it clear that I need to work on values before I begin trying to add colour. It's like learning to draw all over agin.
@Kakutachi I still work with pencil and I love pencil. This digital is just a by product from my job and it is easier to paint with, not necessary to draw with. It's harder to get precise & fluid line on a tablet.
@idrawgirls thank you for the reply, u really do answer everyone^^
but im happy to hear u also prefer pencil or at least still like it
i just wanted to know how u got so good with tablets, i mean i m pretty good at colouring, but i still have to do the outlinets with pencil, i really admire you
and some onther question, im using corel painter and ps elemnts, if i have the feeling my lines or the whole picture is kinda pixely, how do i change that?
@Kakutachi Painter X is good. You can paint with that. It is way better than element. If you are going to painting with PS, you have to use the real thing like CS5 (Student version is fine, same thing but cheaper) or you can download Gimp.
Hey, just a feedback, I think it's great that you really answer every single question that's posted here. When videos are as popular as yours, it's rare that the user answers every question.
@spiegelbild90 Thanks, it is actually not that bad. I schedule it a few times a week in the morning for a few hours. Try to get to mostly relevant questions. I've learn it from Tony Hsieh, Zappo's founder. ;-)
Thank you for all the comments here guys. If you have any question, post them on the comment below. I usually answer them via msg. There are also more video tutorials on my channel on many different subjects. Peace! thanks again.
I totally subscribed.. you are just so immensely gifted and lucky to be able to draw woman like that!! It does happen so often to me when i meet a very sweet girl and come home I wanna draw her so badly but I CANT :) .. do you do that sometimes? draw girls you recently met out of your mind just because they are beautiful?
i am so glad i found this, iv been lookin for a channel that does comic book drawings.
i have a few questions, what kind of brush do you use when your drawing and shading? i didn't think of changing the style of brush but i can see it gives it a better effect. Do you use a mouse when you draw or do you use one of those pen mouses? becuase thats what i was things of getting.
hey, Xia I have a question about illustration/concept art. I know when you usually draw comics, manga, or even some conceptual figures, there are some stylized techniques. So my question: is it bad to sort of exaggerate on human anatomy? For example, I've seen lots of artists who may exaggerate size the female hips, breast from realistic view. Not very true to the real human anatomy. But is it okay to exaggerate a lot and be stylistic, or should there be a limitation to the scale and proportions
there;s one thing I never get :) and it's bugging me like crazy.
Are you using different opacity values of the actual brush or of the actual black color. For example I pick black, 50% opacity, if I make 2 paralel storkes, opacity is consistent but if my 2nd stroke overlaps the 1st, the opacity adds up creating a common line darker that the ones of the brush :))
This might sound stupid but I can't figure it out. Would you mind commenting here on this ?
Instead of doing two stokes, do one then erase the excess paint part. Or use 100 opacity on the brush will solve your problem. There are many ways to skin a cat. The more you do, the better you get. First thing first, know where the exact value should be.
i have the same problem, because i like to build up my values on top of the line-art, so the lines slowly disappear, but it looks all choppy unless i use full opacity or get every line right the first time.
Just wanted to say I frequently watch your videos and hit up your site. You do a great job, and these tutorials are very much appreciated. I like the fact that you show various styles to draw in as well. Keep them coming!
@ricefarmer benifit is, its real, real lead, ink, paint, real surface, no reliance on pixel clear picture (which will never be perfect), no tracking issuses, latency, deleted work, better control, etc. tablets good though, it has benifits, but its second to best.
@Adhoc91 really? lets see u resize something in seconds. or flip the things.. or add glows. lets see u put text, lets see u save multiple versions.. lets see u have a grey scale version and color.. lets see u change the canvas size...
@ricefarmer ya i bet speed is great if your working for people with deadlines, but when you make art your head should be in it step by step. if you know what your doing you won't need to resize, you put text by ummm yaknow write it the old fashon way with infinite text option, you can learn your colors and make your own scales, and you can stretch your own canvas...but thats all to much work isn't it? and those other things are petty. the futures made for people like you, fast, cheap, and shoddy
@ricefarmer ok i can see now that you have no arguement, im not talking about concept artists, i was originally explaining the good about analog. owell, be gone now.
drawing with a pencil by far outweights any computer technology by far.
computer art is a crutch. I do both and prefer painting and drawing but as i am disabled i cant paint any more and prefer digital painting yet i draw constantly over photoshop. u learn way more by pencil then you ever would by photoshop. yet i have learned a lot from gradients and other techniques by photoshop that i can apply to pencil. btw u are superb as an artist /salute.
1. You talk thru the WHOLE damn video! 2. You keep erasing and I have a 5B pencil so its almost permanent! LOL Great job tho!
