Love love love this. Extremely easy to follow, step by step tutorial. I love it when people like Miss Julie make videos that are simplistic. That way, everyone benefits, from the beginner to the seasoned sewer. I look forward to making lots of these dresses as it is summer here right now. Big thumbs up from Aus!!
it is nice but can you try to make a vampire dress she baby want one and i mean she is a girl and my sister she and me like dress of vampire so i like the dress
So I just watched you video and grabbed a pillow case and started to copy you. O my it is so cute. I dont have a body to try it today but off a body it looks great. Thank you so much!!!! I have been looking for a hobby and I found it!!!
The pillow case dresses are so dang cute! I started making these with my mom awhile ago.. hopefully we can make some for littles in the summer! I'll have to upload.. thanks for the video!
Well, thank you so much! I have LOADS of pillow cases/duvet covers that I don't use any more. I wondered what I could do with them. I have 2 girls, and they are just going to love these! Can't wait to get stuck in!
I have subscribed, and can't wait to see what other vlogs you have on! :-)
I want to do this, just have one question. How long are the strips of ribbon? Thanks for all the videos - they really help since I'm new to sewing for my new grand-daughter.
I have watched all your videos you are so talented!
I am going to use this to make my 20 month old daughter a dress...She is not able to fill the entire dress..like it is too baggy on her? How would I fix this? Do I need to just cut it and sew it to her size?
@MissLeigh78 I am going to post a video soon for an adult size pillowcase dress!!!! If you subscribe to my channel you will automatically be notified when i post new videos!!! Thanks
@SAShold I use 1 1/2 inch ribbon, but you can use whatever appeals to you the length is anywhere from 10" to 12" per piece depending on the bow size you desire.
Is there an easy way to make a pillowcase dress out of regular fabric instead of a pillowcase? Also, may I ask if your arm-hole template is the size you use for all sizes, say a one year old? Thanks!
@CharmedMamaofTwo Hi sorry for the delayed response, yes you can use fabric just measure the width if a pillow case and the length from the collarbone to how long you want the dress to be. You can make a template just for your little one by using an existing piece of clothing, top or dress and add about an inch and a half on the length for the casing. hope this helps!
Thanks So Much for your Time. I have a one year old grandaughter and I made her two pillowcase dressses, but your way is great. Thanks again for your time, Kim
Thank you for being so simple and easy to understand. My mom who has sewn for years and knows my ability level (or inability, really) giggled at me when I told her I wanted to make a pillowcase dress. You really simplified it and I totally have confidence now! Thanks so much! I will let you know how it turns out!
Ok, had to watch the video really close.. because you didn't mention that you were shortening the pillowcase frm the top and leaving the hem of the case as your hem.. It kind of goes fast when you are talking..
Also, couldn't you just make your bias tape much longer.. , run your elastic through the casing, and sew it down. then run your bias tape over that edge and use the bias to tie off.
Satin ribbon does not wash well and grograin can sometimes be rough..
Hi, Yes you do cut the sewn edge of the pillowcase off leaving the opening as the hem. and you could use anything else in place of the ribbon including making your own bias tape etc... Hope this helps-Julie
It may be a dumb question, but what purpose does the elastic have? The reason I am asking is I saw where someone made a pillow case without the elastic and it looked the same. I dont know I am just curious. I dont want to leave it out if it is important. This is VERY cute by the way!
I stumbled across this by mistake and I have to say, I wish I had a daughter! Think its possible to make a boho style top for a grown up out of (very big) pillow case?
I loved this vintage pillow case you chose. It really makes it look like an old (vintage) dress. Dresses like this I have always thought look great on little girls. I am gonna try that today and go get me some nice lookin pillow cases at a thrift store.
I would like to make a dress using put fabric(not a pillow case (how much do u think I need). do you know about how wide before elactic you would make a dress to be about pillowcase size ? would I just measure the girls shoulder to shoulder and add about a inch for the seem ?
I tried to make this dress just out of fabric yesterday and guess what????? IT WORKED. We are off to Disney World for Christmas so i'm going to make minnie style and spongebob too. She'll be the best dressed little princess in the parks. Thank you. xx
I am a little confused as to how you cut your bindings. Its hard to tell how you folded the fabric in order to correctly get the right length and cut of them. Can you explain?
they are supposed to flare out and be wide, though i did feel that the elastic measurement here was too long... i personally use closer to 6.5' for my 3 yr old... that gives it a much cleaner, less 'baggy/too-big' look. that's just me though :)
i love this dress too!!! seems doable for a novice like me- BUT what do I do if i want to use actual fabric? how much do i buy? etc? THANK YOU for these wonderful posts.
If you go to 6:15 into the video it shows how to connect the ribbon to the elastic. Then you put a saftey pin on the end od the ribbon and thread it through the casing and stitch the ends of the casing so it doesn't come out. Hope this helps,
^_^ I love your videos, this is so much cheaper then buying new clothes, I think I am going to make a shirt using this, it would look so cute with one of my waist belts.
I want to make a dress for my 6 yr old and a shirt for my 10 yr old! :) THANKS!! Is the video more detailed on your site? I"m checking that out! :) Just wondered about the ribbon.. thanks!

i love the dress but i would also enjoy a more fitted one two, can you please make a video like that and with it being a haulter top. plese and thanks
How would you make this more fitted and less smock like so i could make a top out of it?? I love the idea of using an old pillowcase with lacing on it to make a really vintage looking top. But i would want something a bit more fittled :P
