I hope he puts an alternate version of this song on the next album. It's been out there for over a year now and it will be anything but new by the time the CD comes out. In any event, there's plenty of room for improvement as far as this track is concerned.

Do you remember when Gary's songs were stories, about pleasure skins, or alarms ringing for days, not just 'Cool' words repeated over and over and over in a 'tough' fashion. I wish he would write about something again, instead of trying to master the pop song structure. And that fucking guitar, thats all you ever hear anymore, except for one thin anemic synthesizer, wailing in accompaniment

@starbumblackhole What I've been listening to his lyrics they all are "just cool words" put together. Sometimes he has succeeded, sometimes failed. (Badly.) Maybe the technique just felt fresher in the early days when he had not recycled the same words for the zillionth time :) (and if the lyrics to fall are like namun1 scribed them then there is a story and not a bad one either...)

@Joriini I hear you, but the lyrics scribed above are from Noise Noise, what, 82, 83? I feel so bad dissing the Gary, he has been a favorite for about 26-27 years, but this heavy phase he is in now is the worst yet. I prefer the Prince covers and Janet Jackson style to this. at least it had subtlety and musicianship, this is'nt even noise, that guitar just gets annoying.

And the Lyrics, Dire. 75% of Jagged just put me to sleep. I could'nt make out a point to 3/4 of the songs. This whole anthemic chorus thing is to the detriment of the verse. I fear he is trying to write radio hits, and you've either got that or you don't. I'm sorry he does'nt have many of them, I just want my Gary Style back, and forget the NIN keyboard affectation. last time I saw him and before and after the show all he had was distorting loud NIN music over a lousy P.A.

@starbumblackhole I totally agree with you! For example In a dark place has a very cool build up of atmosphere - and then comes the big chorus about pulling out stuff and everything is ruined. Very, very annoying - and disappointing. Potential wasted. And Scanner... is a fine example of ruining things with wall of sound. If you compare the album version with the alternative take on Jagged Edge you get the point.. So hopes are high and expectations low :(
