It spins for about as long as you see in the video. The only things slowing it down are air resistance and friction from the two ball bearings at the hub, but that's not a lot due to the very small contact area..

Thanks for the nice comments. Haven't built anything with GeoMag in ages...might have some free time at some point again.

To answer some questions/comments - no idea how many bit I used, but one octahedra is 9 bars and 5 balls, so the blue loop contains 270 bars and 150 balls. on top of that there is the red track, made of four (red) bars and two balls per octahedron - so another 120 bars and 60 balls. then there's the whole gantry thing which I have no idea how many I used.
