To be fair to him, it does say in 4:34 of the Quran that if a woman is disobedient to her husband, he must first admonish her, and if that fails he should refuse to share her bed, and if that fails he should (lightly) hit her. I don't think this priest meant real beating, just light hitting, as the Quran permits in limited circumstances.
There is not "(first)", "(Next)", "(And last)", "(lightly)". All those words in parentheses are added by the traductors to smooth the violent (and most of the time incomprehensible) message of the koran.

And since that verse from the Qur'an contradicts the Hadith which you just posted, then the Hadith is void and the Quranic verse is the one to follow, so it DOES allow wife beating. To be fair to him, it does say in 4:34 of the Quran that if a woman is disobedient to her husband, he must first admonish her, and if that fails he should refuse to share her bed, and if that fails he should (lightly) hit her. I don't think this priest meant real beating, just light hitting, as the Quran permits in limited circumstances.

The first ayah means:if a women wanted to make a big sin :1.remind them of god
2.if they didn't listen , don't sleep with them (you should sleep in the same house though)
3. if above didn't work you have the right to beat your wife ,not hard and not in the face
the second ayah is about a prophet who swore to hit his wife then he retreated so God told him to hit her with a light branch that won't hurt her and will fulfill his oath
