@J1SMOKES I never tried to feed them with meat, maybe you have a different fish from Serrasalmidae (piranha family). Or I didn't know, I had them only once, when they grew large I sold them.
@foroeste1 They are vegetarians, they ate almost all plants I had in the aquarium. Now I have no fishes - only plants without water, just a small greenhouse.
And they are not mini - they grow to 18 cm or even more.
I have a book about aquarium fishes from 1997 with 750 species described and photographed. There are 7 species of Serrasalmidae and my fishes are identical as in the book, the only difference is that my fishes' tail ends with a reddish tint, the ones in the book have all transparent tail. Besides they were young in this video, now they are larger. So what species may it be?
You know what? I was confusing Luna with Mola, which is what I have. I'm sorry about that. You may be correct. Although they kind of look like Metynnis argenteus to me. There's so much confusion and contradictory information about silver dollar identification that it becomes difficult to know what you have. Do you have any good links on the Luna you could send me? You might have to PM me.
I know, cos everybody calls them 'silver dollar' not knowing the scientific name. My fishes are 9 cm long, I bought them about 1.5 year ago, they were about 5 cm long. They ate almost all plants in my aquarium except Microsorium, Anubias and 2 Cryptocorynes.
hi there, im planning on adding neons to my tank, but do u think my SD's would eat them? atm i also have guppies breeding, and the fry i release into the tank (approx 1-2cm in length) are thriving and they arent being eaten.
I have about 20 neons and other small Characidae, silver dollars are not interested in them. I sold my dollars just a few days ago cos I want to transform my aquarium into a riparium - about 1/4 of water, a few small fishes and plants rooting in water with emerged leaves.
the rool is a inch of fish per gallon and silver dollars are very active swimmers as you seen in this video they are really cool fish 1 have one 1inch silver dollar and two 4 inch silver dollars
Well, usually the male will have more of a red tinge than the female.. But it's kind of hard to tell. I can't really see it in the video, does one have more red than the other? My males have more red around the gills and on their anal fins.
My silver dollars love beef heart ... Why do u say they don't eat meat???
