I found jazz late in life after hearing a TV sound track and fell in love with it. PD is by far my favourate alto sax player but I still can't believe that a guy who looks like a merchant banker can sound so cool!

@bigwillysmitty actually, it's just a drum-set being played, not tablas. Some of the effects being created here result from striking the drum in unusual places (such as "rim-shots" on the metal rim of the snare drum, and simply by hitting the sides of the drums. There may be some percussion instrument involved, but I believe this recording features a standard jazz drum-set.
