Martin has a great voice and is very talented artist, but Dave has that special deep, almost dramatic baritone voice that is very very rare in music industry and that's why Dave remains the frontman, his voice isn't only top notch when it comes to talent, it's actually really special in it's power and the impression it leaves.

I too think Martin has great vocals and would be great solo singer, but not in Depeche Mode. :)
