  • Supposedly alot of this scene was improv and done on the spot by no other than the fucking man !!!

  • @bowser8375 Nope. Robert Shaw actually took the script and rewrote it very specifically.

  • @MOVIEMANGLE Can you post a article about that, I love everythign jaws and would love to read it....

  • @bowser8375 I saw it on the JAWS documentary from the Anniversary DVD. It's GREAT! ; )

  • i actually performed this in drama class, but it was a complete misfire compared to this. This Monologue will be a great treasure for Cinema History for a long time to come

  • Amazing performance, amazing film.

  • he saw his best friend get eat by a shark.

  • my dad was one of the survivors of the indianapolis.

  • my dad survived that attack.

  • he says tiger sharks? thougth it was longimanus sharks

  • 74philsphan I agree

  • I still get chills watching this scene. All time favorite for me.

  • Thursday morning chief, I bumped into a friend of mine, herbie robinson, from cleavland. Baseball player, bosoms mate. We thaught he was asleep, reached over to wake him up, he bobbed up and down in the water it was like a kinda top. Upended. Well he had been bitten in half below the waist! This was a real person that was actualy on the indianapolis and that realy happened. Check your history.

  • With Hollywood's incessant trend of resurrecting seemingly dead franchises with almost no discretion whatsoever, they might as well make a prequel to "Jaws" about Quint's ill-fated tale... with lots of CG sharks.

  • I'm naming my first son after Quint.

  • this is one of the greatest monologues in a movie

  • Quint was the grandfather a lot of people I see today needed. Someone to smack their ass into gear and make a man out of them.

  • @Polarcupcheck The movie doesn't portray him as much of a role model, though. He's really a self-destructive egomaniac. He smashes the ship radio to prevent Brody from calling for help; he also pushes his damaged ship to the point where the motor breaks down, stranding himself and his crew. His determination to get the shark all by himself gets him killed in the end, and nearly gets Brody and Hooper killed as well. Not very heroic.

  • @fileboy2002 It's a MOVIE, he's not meant to be a role model!!

  • "Anyway, we delivered the bomb." Such a convincing character. Almost like hearing a story from your own grandfather.

  • This scene never fails to give me the chills

  • Chuck Norris just choked on his vomit in his sleep...

  • My Grampa was on the Indianapolis he's alive but hates sharks he was attacked "sometimes that shark go away..."

  • AICN brought me here :)

  • BEST SCENE EVER!!!

  • Great video and all but why is it reversed from the way it is in the movie?

  • Richard Dreyfuss has an awesome laugh.

  • my great uncle was on the u.s.s. indianapolis.he was below deck when they sealed the ship off to try to prevent it from sinking.he drowned.

  • He did his part so well love that speech I'm scared to go in the water i know it off by heart

  • They simply do not make movies like this anymore. Hollywood has gotten to caught up in CGI and forgotten all about the damn story.

  • It actually brought the story out, people kind of forgot about it. It happened right as the war was over. Or close to the end.

  • every year my middle school brings in vets and when i was in 8th grade 6 years ago we had a guy on the indianapolis. he was badass

  • The I-58 fired a spread of six torpeados at two-second intervals and the Captain of the I-58 reported three equally spaced hits.

  • It's ridiculous Robert Shaw didn't get a Oscar nomination for this performance. Damn fine actor!

  • My favorite scene! This and "Show me the way to go home" scene.

  • i better watch his farewell song before i start to cry :(

  • My favorite scene. A scary story. Quint's my favorite character. Please, NOBODY remake it. It's perfect just the way it is.

  • SHARK WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @parnold827 hahahaha yep. I just finished watching a show on discovery and I just had to check this out.

  • Without EXCEPTION, one of the best scenes in film history!! Not only for the dialog, but Robert Shaw's personae in this scene is second to none, not to mention in the whole film & I cant imagine anyone one else playing this part better than him Pure Brilliance!!!!

  • This is my favorite scene in the film and it wasn't even in the book.

  • Without doubt one of the finest moments in cinematic history, rest ye well Robert. :)

  • alfred hitchcock's psycho was million times better than jaws

  • jaws was death incarnate. quint, what a character ...1975...

another era now....film golden screen cinema...dating years back..

this film will always sit in the golden halls of fame.

  • Had Lil drink about a hour ago.....

  • OMG. Friggin epic dude.

  • quarryman 88....i hear ya ..good idea...where did ya come up with that one? GOOD FOR YOU. how can you do it with apocolypse now..when sheen first meets brando..the messenger boy..stuff..?? thank you..

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but at the end of the monologue he says June the 29th, 1945. I always thought that it was JULY 29th, 1945. I hope that I am correct........

  • I heard he was really drunk while doing this scene. Spielberg wasn't happy but when the crew were all mesmerised by him he decided to not do it again with Shaw sober.

  • Spielberg rocks!

  • @Cobbleston Shaw rocks

  • @okee9 Yeah, but Spielberg too!

  • Q8iDude SO right!! Altho, when Strangelove is talkin to the pres' after Slim rides the bomb has to comes a VERY close 2nd!!

  • 2 people grew up in caves

  • awesome

  • I heard that there was some sort of secret mission dealing with the Indianapolis, saying that some sailors were told to be quiet about it. Anybody ever heard of a similar story?

  • thank you..miraclewhip237......wish they did that to all the videos, that liongate is taking away..great idea!!

  • Genius, I'd be interested to see what preparation he had done for that scene.

  • @TheUnknownAgenda Supposedly, he did it in one take.

  • how come in other clips..hes on the other side of the couch?? a mirror?

  • @MrRichBiker its inverted so that youtube cant take it down for copyright and shit

  • @MrRichBiker I tried to upload the scene previously, and YouTube took it down within seconds, claiming copyright, etc... and someone told me if I reverse it, it's harder for them to find and take down.

  • @quarryman88 Yep, that's how you avoid their filter - you can do a similar thing with audio.

  • The greatest monologue in motion picture history.

  • @Q8iDude Sorry, Alec Baldwin's coffee is for closers speech in Glengarry Glen Ross is better.

  • @Huboons "coffee is for closers" is not a monologue though. Too many other people talk. That scene from GGR is a great scene, but these few minutes of Jaws still get my vote as best (most compelling, memorable, character-defining) monologue on film.

  • I met and did some work for a man that was a gunner on The INDIANAPOLIS. Gus Kay. He has since passed away. I'll never forget the stories he told me over the course of three days. Thanks for the post. RIP Gus.

  • Don't anyone fuck with this scene- just try

  • @jeffersoninny It's been fucked with. Very well.
