By the time they got signed in '78-'79, Motown had totally moved 2 LA & that old-school Artist Dev Dept (Cholly Atkins, Maurice King, Ms. Maxine) was no more, or at least never the same. Fam were pretty much on their own with how 2 dance, how 2 carry themselves. They already knew how 2 sing & that was all they needed at 1st.
