@miscapb They were written by 14 yrs old boy cos they were intended to be gibberish, should be taken as irony rather. This song is an additional comment to the movie, war. Someone want's suicide? Well, at war you see how precious is life & that ppl are great. I believe ppl love MASH so much cos we are more prone to love & compassion then 'sensless destruction' as Hawkeye calls war. Interesting Hawkeye was so long there & had breakdown while Klinger gave great show of insanity &ended ...normal.

i agree with you, but i wouldn't call them gibberish. I think the lyrics are lovely, honestly, "suicide is painless....the game of life is too hard to play." i think he's hinting at how ridiculous people are and how disconnected with ourselves we are, even fearing death altho death is the ultimate goal of life. i mean you only know life because you know death. so in that sense the song is beautiful to me.

@miscapb the lyrics were written by Robert Altman's 14 year old son. They were meant to be an angsty teen poem. The kid only wanted a guitar for his work, but he ended up getting full rights to the lyrics and has made over $2M over the years. Not bad for a 14 year old's angsty poem... however, it does give some insight as to why the lyrics are a bit... off... sometimes.
