@faza4237 Currently the hardest climb is 5.15b. Only a few climbers have climbed 5.15 and many of the routes at this grade have yet to have multiple ascents to confirm the grade. 5.13 is still pretty hard, but not an exclusive grade.

I dont understand the point of not using a rope but using a safety net. The whole point of free soloing is finding the no-fall headspace. If you are going to protect a fall, why not just use a rope? It's easier to set-up and probably more bomber than a net anyway

As a person who mostly boulders, the biggest drawback to route climbing is the hassle of harnessing up/clipping/bolting/placing gear. The main draw of bouldering, for me, is the freedom.

I can't count the number of times i've been held back on lead climbs by rope drag...or had the rope get in my way top roping.

I think this is awesome, the freedom of bouldering combined with the length of trad climbing...minus the complete idiocy of free soloing and the added water-weight of DWS

I had the opportunity to try this route with these guys. they are super nice.. totally happy to let me try the climb above the net. Seeing as I don't generally flash 5.13 I fell from the lip into the neta few times, and it is a BIG fall... you stop 10ft above ground after falling from about the 50ft mark...!

I think rock climbing in general is already "fucking around" if you're going to use that label for using a net instead of a rope.

Pretty much everything that's a standard in climbing today started out as a small group of climbers having an idea for something new to try out. Ten years from now you'll probably be seeing a lot of top sport climbers using nets instead of rope for first ascents.

There are several advantages to this over using a rope: 1. As he said in the video, the fall scared him. Experienced climbers dont normaly get that rush of adrenalin on a bolted route.

2. Not clipping bolts makes the climbing flow more and feel nicer. (in response to your earlier coment about top roping, how are you going to top rope it without having to do any clipping? its massively overhanging and there would be no point!)

3. What about if they found a nice unbolted line? it looks alot quicker and cheeper than bolting to me.
