I agree. He totally deserved to be nominated for an Emmy for this. I watched ER for 15 years and this is one of the most memorable scenes from it. David did fantastic acting. My heart broke from him. Before this, I actually thought he was just a pretty boy but this made me realize what an oustanding actor he was. I fell in love with Simon Brenner right then and there. The actor who played the pedophile was terrifc as well. I was so sure he was innocent until that scene.
That episode was hard to watch when it first came on and it still is. I can't believe there are such monsters in the world who would take advantage of innocent children and try to take away their innocence. :(
Unbelievable...it's been more than a year since this show was taken off the air, and I haven't seen any clips since then, but these 5 minutes and 48 seconds make me just as emotional as I was watching it in the regular season with the whole episode backstory. Amazing acting on one of the best shows on TV :)
@eventingirl001 If you mean, what led up to this, the background is that a guy came into the ER after being wrongfully accused of molesting one of his music students, and his family had been caught in a fire. The guy's brother beat him up while Brenner watched, and it made Brenner recall his childhood.
this is one of the examples of why ER is without a doubt the best show ever made..nothing coming out or that ever will come out will ever compare to it.
I find it amazing that the dumb asses in Hollywood did not have the brains to nominate David Lyons for an emmy, but did nominate Ernest Borgine for guest starring. What a bunch of bafoons. David Lyons should walk a way with an emmy and golded globe. I've been through what his character has been and his performance helped me to realize I wasn't dealing with it either.
I am watching ER on the internet at the moment but several episodes are not online anymore, this is one of them. and I was just about to watch 15x18 and in the "previously on ER"-part they showed morris saying "you gotta talk to someone" and I thought I need to see that scene before I watch the episode. then I found it on here and I am crying my eyes out. in 15x17 he attacked that foster dad who seemed to be a pedophile and I immediatly thought that Simon has been raped as a kid.
this is one of the best scenes I have ever seen, because it's really emotional, heartbreaking... and so true! alot of people are afraid of talking about such a topic and... well I can't find any words now.. I'm just gonna keep crying, cause this is a truly amazing performance by David Lyons... *cry*
It took me about 30 minutes to watch this scene, i know i am pathetic, but i just couldn't watch it...it was so moving, so....touching...It nearly brought me to tears, especially since what he described it's pretty much true, this is how they lure their victims in. A truly moving episode, and great performance from david lyons.
David Lyons was so amazing in that scene- I was like crying with him... Some of the best acting I've seen on this show (and there have been some AMAZING moments). Something so creepy about it all. That (as dark as it sounds) is one of my favourite episodes/endings of ER.
Excuse me, do anybody know where can I find the er episode 14? Because this is not yet on board in hk n I couldn't find it out in youtube nor nbc official website ~ Please, I don't want to miss the whole episode 14!
I actually thought the guy was innocent! He was SO convincing and 'nice' just like Brenner said he would be! Man, I couldn't even fucking look at the creep when he was with the girl...felt nothing but disgust and hate towards him. Amaaazing acting by David! Very well done.
David Lyons is an amazing actor, this scene was so believable. Even though we are a couple of seasons behind in ER over here, I can watch this video and say that I believe he is doing us here in Australia proud. Well done.
Wot season u on in Austrailia? We've just started last season here in uk second episode starts in 1hour i cant wait. brilliant 1st episode and this episode look amazing to they all do and ur right David is brilliant.
Late season 13 or early 14. Can't keep up, the tv network keeps stopping and starting the show and are now airing double episodes to make up for it. Abby and Luka are getting married this week. I hope it stays airing here when it ends in the US, only to see the gorgeous David. Can't get enough of him!
late season 13 that is if its the wedding. the wedding it brilliant and the 'aftermath' few episodes keep watching it gets good. they should keep it playing i dont see y they wouldnt see it through to the end.
It is a subject rarely tackled in american drama that I have seen. There is one other that I can think of though. Homocide Life on The street. From the mid 90s Detective Tim Bayliss was the victimo of child sex abuse, and they showed how it haunted him throught his life, evntually and tragicly destroying him.
This is a very brave story for ER but an important one and David Lyons like Kyle Secor before him put in a magnificent performance.
I was so shocked when it turned out the guy really was a peodophile. He did such a good job playing the innocent wrongly accused man. And WOW David Lyons performance was amazing. I totally agree with you. By the end of David Lyons performance I was in tears. And at the very end when he stared at the peodophile, I got this chill becuase you could kind of tell the peodophile knew that Dr. Brenner knew.
David's acting just blew me entirely away. I have to admit that I had no idea what he was capable of...just incredible.

"You Americans sure love to sue"
Dr Corday, Dr Kovac and now Dr Brenner have all mentioned it.
I love how the directors are very real about that.
They don't shy away from the penchant that Americans have for litigation.

I got goosebumps when I saw that scene and the acting.... what an acting, I just can say wow...
An compliment for the scriptwriter as well...he described the situation and the actual feelings a victim could have very well....
why didn´t the actor got an emmy?

I particularly enjoy the fact that Dr Brenner explains the characteristics of a paedophile while showing them between the patient and Meredith.
But it's also a very emotional scene and I like that too

Brenner's eyes tell all. The way he glared at the patient was clearly his way of saying "I see right through you." Brilliant acting by Lyons.
