  • Ew. Look at those stubby hands! God, Sue!

  • This film didn't say anything about hair removal! Do I shave my pits, or not? WHAT DO I DO, CORONET???

  • Now Sue will go for her 10:00 AM brazilian bikini wax appointment then Sues all set.

  • she went to sleep at 10:45...'the hell am I doing up till 3:15!!? 0_o

  • @PrincessKLS I didn't say everyone that goes to Wal-Mart dresses like crap. People of Wal-Mart is a website which showcases those who do dress inappropriately.

  • I like how they made fun of her hands, lol. So back-handed.

  • "Your success depends a great deal on how you look." Yeah, take Keith Richards, for example.

  • So much has changed since the time this was made and today. The subjects of the People of Walmart site is a prime example of that.

  • @1boratfan For the record, I don't dress like crap when I go shopping at Wal-Mart.

  • @reevedavey that is disgusting beyind the law

  • Notice that the emphasis placed on "how you look" isn't pertaining to being "hot" or "beautiful" or even "pretty"--just well-groomed and clean.

  • I don't know if it was a local thing, but in late 40s and 50s in San Francisco my mom told me everyone dressed up before they headed out the door to do anything. She said her mother-in-law wore a dress, heels and even gloves to go grocery shopping (just in case she ran into someone she knew!). How times have changed.

  • @Jeffredo729 I heard until the mid 1960's everyone wore hats outdoors and had different hats for different weather.

  • mother looks kind of soul dead, empty and creepy

  • what kills me is how alot of these young girls & older women wear pajamas to tha store or to run arrands. i mean damn is it that hard to put on some clean jeans aleast? Guys with their pants half down their ass. smh we live in a society of lazy slobs. i even think someone in the public eye should cover tattoos & the tattoos on their necks. damn when did look'n like some-1 who got off of death role become exceptable. oh let me guess i'm "hating" give me a break & lets have some self respect

  • @omen74 when i say in the public eye i ment those who "work" in the public eye

  • People today could learn so much from this. I love the way they dressed in the 1940's, and I think this video should be shown in school.

It seems everyone now always looks like a mess. I believe people should wear what they want as long as it looks clean and they look like they actually put a little effort into their appearance.

  • 8 people don't know how to be well-groomed and attractive. lol

  • @SisterAllie35

They all live in my neighborhood.

  • God help you if your slip shows....

  • Monkey see, but monkey do no more

  • I doubt anyone gets 8 hours of sleep...

  • I understand Don and Sue went onto win Emmy's for their acting performances.

  • just remember: POOP

  • @FMAiscool

    Everybody poops.

  • @pleuresy nobody poops but you

  • Sue kind of looks like Mallory from Family Ties

  • Ugh, I wish I lived in the 1940's so I could wear a dress to school. Or a skirt. I did once and I looked like such a fool.

  • @whatevr192 I'm curious, what happened when you tried to wear a dress? When I was in school in the 80s girls wore dresses all the time and they were nice ones too. Now you have to put a girl under some form of duress to even get them near one. Then again they can't make a real dress to save their lives these day so maybe it isn't such a loss. I see by you age your were in school about 99-2001. Yeah, everything had definitely gone well into the toilet by then.

  • @mzwere1 I wore a dress to freshman orientation, and girls from my grade were smirking at me while they casually wore jean shorts and t-shirts. I wrote that comment that day. Girls do wear some dresses, but they're pretty skanky. I'd love to wear a nice long skirt or dress like in the videos. I hate wearing jeans.

Oh, my age is wrong. I just started high school.

  • @whatevr192 Hey, sorry to hear about that. Like I said you wouldn't have had a problem in my time 25 years+ ago. Plus the dresses went past the knee then too. The only girls in short skirts were the cheerleaders and pep squad. Even our dance team wore matching full length ladies' suits in school colors to the pep rallies. If you look at my slide shows from my yearbooks you get an idea of what was worn in my area at the time. Good Luck :-)

  • @whatevr192 You should watch LisaFreemontStreet on youtube she's amazing. Great tutorials. Don't be shy about it you should look up Mrsamberapple as well her lifestyle is quite cutsie!

  • @dbarroga I will, thank you.

  • This made me feel guilty for putting on clean pajama bottoms after my shower. Time to find a skirt.

  • I'm usually big on keeping deodorant applied, face and hands washed, shaving, short-cut fingernails, and hair combed. I don't wear cologne(and my silver ring) unless it is at least semi-formal. I don't really do extra grooming or beauty stuff, such as hair gel or talcum powder.

It was good enough to catch the attention of a particularly dazzling blonde girl at my homecoming dance...

  • Very middle class minded......

  • Why are they drinking all that milk...? Are they in babies's age?

  • Mens are not using manicure care?

  • A clock morning ring is the most unhealthy way to get up....

  • Thank you, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time!

  • 4:47 omg that shirt is ugly.!

  • at least 8 hours of sleep? *looks at the clock* 3:36 AM.......agghhhhhh XD

  • @LizzieModern What bullshit!

Housewives did have hobbies and friends you know, stop reading re-written PC versions of history.

  • @qwertasdcfghjklmo24z The video insinuated that, not me.

  • @LizzieModern How did the video insinuate that exactly?

  • @qwertasdcfghjklmo24z With the line that I pointed out? It wasn't meant to be serious.

  • @LizzieModern I just get really annoyed when people assume women were all down trodden until the feminsit movement of the late 1960's.

Women have always have lives of their own, they sometimes even had to have their jobs (while married too), plus women dominated the textile industry in the 19th century and women have always been teachers, nurses etc.

  • @qwertasdcfghjklmo24z I agree with you actually.

Which is why I made fun of that line, because it insinuated that she needed something to make her feel better about herself.

  • @LizzieModern Describe what a life of her own should be? Your statement makes you appear to be an angry frustrated feminazi with a major psychological hang up about how things USED to be.

  • @manhoot You're being silly, I didn't come off that way at all. I was merely poking fun at what the video insinuated. Go read back through comments lad, :)

  • @LizzieModern And you likewise.

  • @manhoot Thumbs up.

  • Sue looks just wonderful, too bad about those stubby hands.

  • Wow. Is that what the girl called makeup? Powder and lipstick that she wiped off anyway? What happened to the concealer, foundation, bronzer, blush, eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss? Makeup sure advanced.

  • Why would Don choose to wear grey pants with a grey shirt? That's just tacky...

  • @ChiefKesus Maybe because the video is black and white.

  • @hobojoegal Oh, thanks I wasn't sure... me being blind and all...

  • Talk about dressing for school: when I was in school back in the 70's, the kids used to wear bleached jeans, hip-hugger jeans, jackets with writing all over them, and a few of the girls wore hot pants. One girl came to school with so much make-up that one of the teachers said something to her about it.

But y parents never allowed me to dress like that. I always wore conservative clothes. I got made fun of, But you know what, I really don't care. They always taught me to dress like a lady.

  • @nanlisa...I went to the private catholic schools for 6 years we were required to wear a white pressed shirt, a suit, a tie with a tie clasp, short neatly combed hair and well polished black leather shoes. We were dressed like that every day 6 1/2 hours a day, five days a week. We did not change class rooms for each class we sat in the same seat "all day" except for lunch time. You were not allowed to speak to any student sitting around you and you had to sit with your hands clasped on the desk

  • @frednora - He was buying in advance of the 80's when that shirt came into fashion, at last!

  • Since when did proper hygiene become a bad thing to teach? I hate to break it to you but you ARE judged on your appearance; if you see someone who is clean you will judge them differently than one who reeks. The same is true in the workplace; if you go to an interview looking like a slob, you probably won't get the job. What this video is trying to teach isn't inherently bad, granted it would need a more modern twist but I think maybe this is something that should be taught in school...

  • @BluePantherFan21 Yeah, for sure you're judged on your appearance!

If you look too brown the white man won't hire you or talk to you.

It's too bad I can't change my skin color so they'll like my appearance better.

  • well, at least Don irons his own clothes.

  • somebody should shoot the narrator's script writers!

  • My daughter graduated 2 weeks ago. I was shocked at the way people dressed for the event. I'm only 45, but I guess I missed where women stopped wearing panty hose and started pairing flip-flops with a dress -- the few that actually bothered to wear a dress that is. The woman in front of me had her thong hanging out of her extremely low cut jeans. Most of the men wore ball caps the during the entire indoor ceremony. And the air horns were totally unacceptable.

  • @mooncat1965 How rude. I do rembember my graduation back in 1995 and "we " girls well some of us , wore dresses. Its was hot but we did it but it was the proper thing to do .

  • @kellylynneden1977 He's not being rude, he's being factual and accurate in regard to the sloppiness of today's so called adults.

  • @mooncat1965 Wow, really? Maybe the school doesn't enforce a dress code? I graduated recently from my school and even the trashiest of the trashy wore dresses (although strapless)

  • @whatevr192 the graduates were in caps and gowns, obviously .... I'm talking about the parents and guests that were there for the ceremony. But as far as a school dress code, it's VERY lax.

  • Comment removed

  • @mooncat1965

I sympathise greatly with you rremarks, Sir/Mme for here in old France (!) noone pays a iota to the size of your tie, not to say the low belt pants...not always charming....!

Poeple say is 'matter of crisis money'. Not at all; vintage's shops are available since decades, and two simple but elegant dresses can be enhan ced with hundreds of complements.

Such a disregard for one self adorn !

  • @mooncat1965 I agree. Dress has become an afterthought. And I missed the memo that made flip flops de rigueur for pretty much any and all dress occasions. I too am old enough to remember when people actually dressed for success. Now its pretty much anything goes.

  • @mooncat1965 You grew up during the 80's...and I don't need to explain what fashion problems were going on then.

  • @fvalen001 perhaps, but we knew when to wear stockings instead of leg warmers and leotards. It's not so much the particular fashion I'm discussing, but the knowing what is occasion-appropriate. I still maintain that exposed thongs and flip-flops just aren't what you wear to a commencement ceremony. IMHO (and we all have those), it disrespects the efforts of the kids who are graduating ... yes, even when they themselves are dressed like that under their gowns.

  • @mooncat1965 I hope you can see the irony. You're mother probably didn't approve of what you were wearing (sometimes?). I hope you didn't dress like Pat Benetar. :P They might be expressing their individuality after several long years of academics. I am not justifying it, just saying - "different strokes, for different folks". I'm glad to hear your daughter was appropriately dressed, perhaps thats all you need to be concerned with (else, join the PTA?). Peace out, girl scout. ; )

  • @fvalen001 nah, I was part of the college-prep crowd LOL like I said, it's the venue rather than the style. Kids got their diplomas either way :)

  • @fvalen001 Not exactly our finest hour, certainly, but at least our clothes fit us back then and we did not go around inked up like we got into a fight with a newspaper.

  • Shallow.

  • ....that is the coolest tie rack ever.

  • @cheersnottears I want one!

  • People I like to Know I never meet here, thats the problem.

  • I don't think Sue's hands are that stubby that she has to avoid red nail polish

  • LOL. I love these old forms of social control

  • @madsketcher On the contrary. Good manners are key to maintaining order in a *free* society.

  • @pitcalco PTTTFH. Yes. WHEEEERE would we be without these? I'm going back to reality now.

  • @madsketcher Yep, you go and do exactly what you want, madsketcher. Whatever works for you.

  • They both look like people I would like to know? Based on their perfect fashion sense alone? Shallow much?

  • at least eight hours of sleep, i got like five yesterday before i had to get ready for school XD

  • In the 1940's, I'd f*ck Sue

    She's fine lady

  • @mondeost2202008 In the 1940's you wouldn't get the chance, unless you each had a ring on your finger.

  • @qwertasdcfghjklmo24z Or look like dean martin :|

  • Her stubby hands? Sad.

  • I cant believe they were encouraging young girls to wear make up to school ....

  • @PushhPop i think with all the smell that was going on at the time, makeup was the least of their worries

  • @selfidentity1 ...LOL....ultra-lol......that was pretty funny

  • I think it's great that people used to get dressed up to go to dinner and the movies. It made it an event, something to look forward to. And I appreciate it when other people bathe before they leave the house. You want to wear shorts and flip-flops to this very nice restaurant on Valentine's Day? That's between you and the woman you came here with, but please take a shower first.

  • @Pafuts actually....if you look at old photos and film from this era people used to wear a suit and tie to go to a baseball game or carnival. It is just something that caught my attention once and I kept an eye on old photos and films..........look on youtube for old 195os baseball games......people dressed very formal by todays standard

  • people in those days had class and etiquette.. and less sinful than present day..

  • @bgeorge841 but isnt taking such pride in ones appearance sinful as well?

  • @bgeorge841 Who are you to judge?

  • holy fuck, this time period was some major group think conformity plain shit. lol

  • Sue avoids red nail polish to avoid attracting attention to her "stubby hands".

  • The never ending juggling act of saving hot water for baths, showers, laundry and dishwasher! Notice that sis has on a BLOUSE instead of a tight T shirt.

  • I like my hair messy as hell :)

  • If I wanna be fucking dirty, I am gonna be damn DIRTY

  • wait, he knew his sister was in the bathroom. Yet he opened the door anyway???

  • I'd be more well groomed if I had a vanity table and a bedroom of that size.

  • God I wanna know Don and Sue soooooo badly.

  • @WipeOut180

me too, omg! they are both so smooth and well groomed

  • butt secs

  • oh the age of class... it was golden i tell ya. what i wouldnt give to go back in time and live just one week in that era.

  • models of conformity, all of them ...

  • "Daily nail care?" Is that a real thing?

  • Where did you get that tie rack like that? I have been looking for one for ages!

  • What color?! It's in fucking black and white! Dude, guys ALWAYS like to see girls dress up, not just for a special occasion.

  • What color?! It's in fucking black and white! Dude guys ALWAYS like to see girls dress up, not just for a special occasion.

  • What color?! It's in fucking black and white!

  • stubby hands!!! LOL Love her PJ's though!

  • I like this video... I'm super messy and always wondered how some people manage to look so neat. Girls still put this much effort in their appearance and, here in south Florida, so do guys. I'm gonna start a routine like that, for real. I disagree with the typical mom role back then though but stay at home moms do need to look good at home to have more self esteem and to feel hot, I would.

  • Close up of the button..LOL

  • "Even mother looks good around the house, to keep up her spirits" You know, because she never leaves the kitchen unless she is cleaning the rest of the house... UGH

  • Homemaking Education Department? Maybe they should think about bringing that one back...

  • I love this video. It makes me want to polish my shoes and clean my room

  • "achieve it by cooperative efforts" is absolutely the best euphemism i've ever heard... i plan on using it the next time i'm too lazy to do something myself lol

  • "Yes, that's no accident . . ."

    Gross understatement, I'd say, given the next 9 minutes . . .

  • why the fuck is the guy ironing? chop chop sis!

  • It's important for everybody to project a good image to others. I believe this is the main thesis of this video. What struck me as rather odd is the fact that this was produced by the University of Mississippi. They sure don't sound like they're from Mississippi to me!!

  • who ever keeps putting this stuff on youtube is freaking amazing.

  • Humph, I haven't fully brushed my hait in years.

    And who BRUSHES their nails!?

  • @super58173 Maybe you should start.

  • @kellylynneden1977- No, because then it's gonna look like I was applying effort to myself. I am a very lazy person.

  • girls are still wearing neckscarves; nothing changed

  • cleaniness

    good posture

    neatness

    VAIN-NESS

  • They woke up at seven am and still had time for all of that.....?? put on whats on the floor from two weeks ago, grab your pop tart and gtfo!

  • Pass the butter - - we've got C-O-R-N!

  • "Welll sayy! Don't you look smooth!"

  • her hands look totally fine. wtf r they talking about?

  • No amount of nail polish can make up for stubby hands. She should keep her job at the sausage factory. And well-matched clothes won't improve a low IQ.

  • @JoeThePhilosopher yea, you would know alot about low IQ's wouldn't you? personal experience, huh? And being the pathetic lonely old man that you are, the last thing u should care about is the womans hands or her nail polish. You've had your entire life to figure out how social interaction works but the best you can do is burn your draft card and buy a cat. Did they make a movie about that, too??

  • @666wickedjack I thought you said you would shoot yourself before you ever again responded to something I said. It's not nice to break your promise.

  • @JoeThePhilosopher i don't recall every saying that and neither do you. Quote? Context? Location? Evidence? FACTS? I do recall you saying people have made 3 movies about your life. So it wouldn't be out of the ordinary hearing you lie.

  • No amount of nail polish can make up for stubby hands. She should keep her job at the sausage factory.

  • Oh, Don!

  • Basically you have to look "perfect" or no one will like you??

  • @maddieroxx4eva No, basically you have to look 'perfect', so that it's more likely people will like you! :D

  • Don and Sue always make sure they wipe their asses before a night on the town.

  • I'm confused... they're dates but brother & sister at the same time?

  • Those roman numerals say 1948

  • That shirt in 4:42 doesn't really look like it would go with anything ever. Why did he buy that?

  • @frednora that shirt at 4:42 is from 1992... lol

  • @frednora lol why was it made?

  • Sue avoids red nail polish because it'll draw attention to her chubby hands lol!

  • Guys, always wash your testicles. Ladies, be sure to trim and/or shave your vaginal region.

  • I wish boys still wore ties to school <3

  • "How would this look on Don?"

Gee, what was that even doing in his closet? It looks like modern art vomited all over his shirt XD

  • ty soo much for uploading all these old videos! i love them!

  • Sue would not have a problem with stubby hand if she grew her nails out.

then she can paint them that pretty red she has always wanted.

  • Okay, I actually love that short-sleeved blouse. And, I'm a hairstylist and we still say the same things to people about their hair, although I was dying to give that girl some bangs.

  • hmmm. are his clothes matched?

too bad this is a BLACK AND WHITE film! haha

  • Don and Sue may be in the past and overdo it ...but I have to say that today some of the messiness of ppeoples appearance is sad. Especially at Weddings and Funerals, some pepole seem to think they are headed to the beach or the Mall instead of a more serious occasion. At bit of attnetion to appearance is a good thing.

  • @jaddison1112 I agree.

  • @jaddison1112 I disagree- fashion is silliness.

  • @jaddison1112 i know what you mean......when my dad died my cousin came to the wake wearing a turned around hat and a baseball jacket......and my cousin is a female, no joke

  • @jaddison1112 That's because people are busy. Grooming takes a lot of time. Also people are on a higher level and not just look at appearance.

BTW - are they sleeping in separate beds? WTF?

  • @jaddison1112 oh being formal is over rated
