Montuno is not the right term for talking about what U play on the piano.The right term is " tumbao ".
The Montuno is a part of a song.

I always thought the tumbao was what the bass played, but recently I heard a famous salsa pianist refer to the repeated piano part that is common in latin music as the tumbao so I suppose this is correct.
