  • what is the difference between the coastal scents brush sets that look exactly like crown and the crown bushed?

  • I can't find the paddle brush on the Coastal Scents website =[

  • how did u clean ur burshes???.....

  • do the badger brushes actually contain realt badger hair

  • PLEASE always notice to buy CRUELTY-FREE BRUSHES.

Many Makeup Brushes are from killed animal fur.

    - Chinchilla, fox, mink, raccoon, horse, pony, camel or goat, and china's dogs and cats hair, so many times out of trapped and horrible tortures.

In China millions of animals are tortured and killed for their fur

The type of hair that brushes are made from is rarely printed so it is difficult to know what a brush is made of. Please Make an effort to know. Thanks

  • I have looked and looked for someone to explain how and which brush to use thank you so much!!!

  • lol at 1:12.. it just happened to stop at that point.

  • lmao. it stopped at 1:08 for me... :D

  • nicely done =D

  • I like Hershey's chocolate better, just saying lol

  • I use bushes from Everyday Minerals :D and they are realy good!

  • I use the italian bladger buffer brush to apply liquid foundation as well. Stip and swirl.

  • I wish Coastal Scents had a kiosk or store because I don't have the ability to order online ):

  • @PinkGlitterable If you dont have a credit card/debit, you can buy a prepaid visa or mastercard from many different stores.Just fill it with the amount that you need, and you will be able to order. Hope this helps!!

  • yess.

    i hate the econemy.

but now i have a better alternative

  • awesomeeeeeeeeee.

  • Thanks Koren! You answered a question I had: I was wondering what brush would be good to use with my Mineralized Skin Finish Natural.

  • He clearly said that the Paddle Brush (or the MAC 134) would work...

  • And that's exactly why I said that he answered a question I had... But thanks for taking the time to answer that for me!

  • Oh silly! Godiva isn't very good chocolate- The Hershey is better quality according tocooks and cacao content. Badger is a different hair than others, has a different snap, and MAC quality has been just imploding lately. So it's personal preference. ShuUemura if you want to compare a Bentley to the fleet of Chevrolets talked about here. But I have these badgers in my brush stand next toShu and Da Vinci and some poor quality control MAC and they all have different charicteristics.

  • I was wondering how to take care of fall off!

  • Hey Koren :)

What are Italian badger chisel Powder brushes good for? :)

Setting powder on top of foundation? powder blush?

And for setting powder on top of foundation + blush, which brush would you recommend for it? Italian Badger powder, or pink kabuki?

    Thanks! :)

  • pls can u buy those for me?I will send u the money.Here i can't find this kind of brushes.thanks a lot :*

    i will wait a message from u!

  • very nice video...i have a question though...what is the difference between a flat top brush and a kabuki brush....oh and what are some good ways to use a fan brush...thank koren ^_^

  • He has a video comparing the 2 kabuki brushes.

  • hey i was looking for the video but i cant seem tto find it....can you give me the title...thanks ^_^

  • I really enjoy your tips on brushes. You are very talented and I enjoy your videos:)

  • You are so unbelievably awesome and adorable!!!

  • Thanks for always giving us brush alternatives, Koren.

  • your videos really help everyone out!!!

    thanks do more!!!PLEASE!!!

    your the best!!!

  • Koren, Thank you so much! I am an aesthetician with little training in make up. You've taught me SO MUCH! I'd love to study with you! RE: fan brush... an old trick I learned painting, is to rub your clean wet brush on a bar of ivory soap and shape it. Let it dry. MY paint brushes are great do you think this works on make up brushes? Why not, right? Make sure you clean the soap out and let it dry before using. (I was always anal about my paintbrushes) Keep up the good work!!!!!

  • I so totally agree... these alternatives are wonderful specially for me a college student who lives on a budget and overall doesnt have the money to spend on brand name brushes... in the near future maybe yes.. but these are great starters for sure!!

  • i love them, am getting them def

  • thanks a lot for this !

    the fan brusjh really helps!

ur awesome i wish i could have them all!

    (dont have enough money lol)

    THANKS AGAIN.

  • Thank you very much, your advice is invaluable :)

  • Although I love, love, love my MAC brushes...I find that an even less expensive alternative are the badger brushes from Crown Brush. Are these brushes comparable to the Crown Brush brushes? By the way I also love, love, love your videos!! Thank you for being so informative!!

  • Koren thank you for all your videos, they are very helpful! I love that you a very thorough/informative! I've learned a lot. Keep them coming! lol

  • i have the chisel fluff brush and the crease brush...and i love them!! i have worked that crease brush so much lol and i am impressed!! i also love their larger brush which is comaparable to the 224 and i love using that to do a soft crease then use the italial badger crease to deepen etc its just amazing!!!

  • Thanks Koren, wonderful review.... :o)

  • Can you use that Buffer Large brush the same way as a flat-top kabuki brush? For putting on mineral foundation too? Or would you say stick with the flat-top kabuki?

  • you sure can use that buffer large brush

  • what's the difference between the Italian badger brushes and the regular ones? I've always heard good things about them, and they are more expensive, are they like... the premium product from one brand? Do you like them more than the normal ones?

    Thx Koren!

  • I was just recently introduced to Italian Badgers (like early this year), for years i favored the typical Goat Hair that most brushes have. I find that badgers picks up more product and blends color much better with ease.

  • i have that fan brush i normally use it for my aromaleigh finishing powders since they require a light hand

  • i was looking at the crown brushes website and noticed that their badger and pink brusehs look exactly like the coastal scents ones.. are they the same exact ones?

  • hey koren, love you, your videos are so resourceful to makeup novices like me, i dont know what i'd do without u, thanks so much

  • Hey EnKore, what brushes that AREN'T MAC do you use regularly?

  • coastal scents :)

  • Today I received my Italian badger buffer brush & chisel powder brush & all I have to say is WOW!!! Once you give them a good cleaning & get the smell out, they are great.

I do use higher end brushes for most of my makeup, but I find these to be just as nice! They do what they are designed to do. i wish CS would come out with more eyeshadow brushes in the badger!!

    thanks for the review!

ps. what is your take on Dior makeup.... more specifically their eyeshadows! a review would be awesome!

  • hey Koran.

Do you think you can do a review on brushes from the bodyshop?

  • i couldnt find the buffer :(

  • hello, may i know which brush do u recommend for liquid foundation and loose powder? and the essential brush for eyeshadows (pigments and regular compact shadow), blushers and bronzers (powders), and also lips?

    Thanks!

ps: i dun mind if its pink handle/italian badger/the normal black synthetic.

  • stippler duo fiber for liquid foundation, Jumbo Face Brush for loose powder, any of the badger shadow and crease brush for eyeshadows, angled contour for blushers, badger buffer for bronzers, and kolinsky retractable for lips.

  • Hi Koren - if you go over to Crown brushes, you'll see that they have a kabouki fan brush in addition to the regular fan brush in this same Italian Badger line - now that brush is super substantial and you might like it better than the regular fan you show here if you're liking badger brushes lately. I think it's about $11 or $12.

  • thank you !

  • Hey Koren, I've watched all these videos about coastal scents brushes and I'm thinking about buying some. My question is which ones are best such as the regular black handled, Italian badger, or the pink brushes?? I know they're cheap, and they'll probably be replaced by MAC brushes (one by one of course haha!), but I do not want to buy something online that is as cheap as one from like Wal-Mart. :)

  • hey noonie - theyre all pretty good. You can watch other reviews too who has bought these brushes for reference. I personally like the italian badgers my self.

  • which would be better, a kabuki brush or a buffer brush? they seem to be the same to me.

  • Kabuki Brushes is a type of a buffer brush, so technically its the same. Some Kabukis are domed top, which will give you medium coverage, and great for light dusting. And the FLAT top kabukis will give you fuller coverage.

  • would it make any difference if you snip the flyaway um, strands (is that a good word for it?) from the fan brush? or would that just make the next in line kind of stray and become flyaway too? Just curious. :S

  • if theres only a few, its fine - Ive done that. Ive snipped a few strays.

  • Thanks =] Also, um, what do you edit your vids with? I tried windows movie maker and it's just not helping. =[ Oh and thanks for vid, was helpful. =]

  • I use Sony Vegas - before, I use WinDVD Creator.

  • Thank you. =]

  • also, do you think that i can use the italian badger buffing brush large for liquid/gel foundations when i need full coverage? or will it sheer it out? thank you!

  • I would'nt use natural bristle on liquid or gels - definitely check out the synthetics for that - the new ones looks like badgers.

  • thank you!

  • Hi Koren, do you think the Italian Badger Chisel Powder Brush is too dense for dusting off loose powder? Thanks!

  • hey choi - I dont think its too dense for that purpose. Its super soft definitely check it out.

  • hi i want to buy a i.badger round crease brush..but i also want to try the pink round crease. im thinking of buying 2 italian badger round crease or 1 of each. what do you think?? is there a big difference between the two??thanks

  • I like the iBadger, but for cute factor, the pink is cute. Go for the badger, add the pink later if you still want another.

  • can u

  • I bought the Italian badger travel set from CS. These are the softest brushes I've ever tried!

  • Koren, I'm a huge fan of your videos, great tips. Please keep the tutorials coming.

  • Thank you for all your wonderful tutorials. :)

  • Thanks! :-)

  • Hi Koren,

Can I use the Italian Badger Buffer Brush to put on my foundation?

    Thanks.

  • Yes! surprisingly, it actually works well with foundations.

  • Koren thanks so much for the review! I love my Mac and Stila brushes but I think I'm gonna try these too LOL!! Which one do you rec for bronzer and loose powder?

  • hey sophia - the paddle brush is excellent for loose powder. The Barger Large is great for bronzing.

  • Thank you!!! :-)

  • Hello Koren, would you list the uses for the different kind of brushes? there are so many brushes and im not even sure if im buying them for the correct use.thank you heaps!

  • I was thinking the same thing!! :)

  • I have the MAC brush for foundation and it looses a lot of hair, annoying!!!

  • do you think the badger round crease brush or the pink pencil brush are kinda similar with mac 224???

  • hey krist - they are closer to the 219 pencil brush.

  • is the size kinda same or which one is smaller or bigger?

  • the 219 are a little smaller/narrower

  • which one do u think is better the italian budger round crease brush or the pink pencil brush???

  • the Italian Badger!

  • you are the best.

I've been watching all your videos on the brushes and I'm planning on getting most of them.

I wish I could afford the M.A.C. brushes right now but they are a bit to expensive.

I think I'll wait until I start cosmetology school and write the brushes off on my taxes.

    haha.

But thanks for all the wonderful Ideas.

  • they are not killed for the brushes - they are shaven just like shaving wool from sheeps.

  • Hey Koren

I noticed CS has a Badger Kabuki brush - have you tried it?? I'm debating between that and the pink kabuki brush~ what do you think??

Thanks for your help!! <3 Liz

  • hey Liz - they were out when I originally ordered my brushes. I can tell you that the other badger brushes are great! I believe this is a slightly bigger 'buki brush than the Pink Buki - but hey, for $4.95 get the pink one too, its cute! So get both LOL

  • lol. You're the greatest. Thankyou!!

  • hi!!!

I want to get a buffer brush to put shimmer in my legs!! :D which one do u think is better Deluxe Buffer brush or Italian Badger Buffer Brush??

    i love your vids!!!

    xoxo

  • hey Nurita -Italian Badger Buffer. I got another one for applying shave cream and its so multi use!

  • thanx!

  • Love this video, I have a question though.. What would you recomend to wash brandnew brushes? I wouldnt want to ruin them lol.

  • plain warm water, and baby shampoo.

  • Love this video, I have a question though.. What would you recomend to wash brandnew brushes? I wouldnt want to ruin them lol.

  • That buffer brush reminds me of the Prescriptives buffer brush that I love to use for my MSF Natural. Thanks for sharing these!! I think this will be great so I can have a set for my kit and a set for home.

  • Ooops! I will, you're awesome lol! Thanks =]

  • You know what I would love? If you make a video with the different MAC brushes and numbers and what do you use them for. I'm new to using brushes, so I don't really know what to do with each brush, and which ones do I really need and which ones I can pass on. Thanks, I love your vids!

  • I have videos on them already - check them out in my video list!

  • So helpful! Thanks so much. This video is great not just as a review for these specific brushes, but also as an informative lesson on the uses of different brushes, what to look for when purchasing brushes, and how to use them with different products. Thanks so much, I learn SO much from your videos.

  • P.S. Does a flat top buffer brush give more coverage than a regular kabuki brush? Thanks!

  • hey verdandi - yes it does as it is denser, so it packs on more product/color.

  • Loving your great informative videos! Thanks alot for your dedication and work! =)

  • hi enkore!! this along with all your other videos is very entertaining and helpful! i had a question that is abit off topic. i go to beauty school and us students do each others makeup, and there is one girl who always uses her brushes in a pretty harsh manner. i dont think she realizes how much it hurts but she left my face feeling scraped. how do i tell her to soften up in a non-offencsive way??? thanks!

  • hey cuoremore - ah, I have came across quite few HEAVY-HANDED artists. They are out there. The best non-offensive way is to simply say - can I make a contructive suggestion? try using the brushes lightly. Sometimes you will need to show them how the bristles should look like on skin during application, and sometimes you will have to hold their hand with the brush and show just like teaching someone to write. Dont be afraid to say its too hard.

  • Koren I just want to say that I haven't been excited or motivated to wear makeup since college- till I came across your videos. You are great and keep inspiring. Thanks!!!

  • awe, thanks Blue!

  • I hope that you would feature more make up tips for mineral make up user. soon! love your videos and it helps me a lot. But can't seem to find some of the stuff here in the Philippines. Which leads to me ask you are you Filipino? (if you don't mind me asking) cause you do look like Filipino

  • you're amazing!

  • I got my brushes last night! I so so so LOVE my italian badger buffer brush. I want allllll the italian badgers now. But I don't think I need that much, hee hee. The pink kabuki isn't as big as what I expected it to be, but the softness (and the pinkness) makes up for the lack in size. Hee hee.

Thanks so much Koren!!! I love you sooooo much!! You have made me (and my credit card!) so much happier. Hahah. *KISSES*

  • Just wondering -- what do you use the pink kabuki for and what did you plan to use it for?

    Thanks :)

    Cory

  • I'm a mineral make-up user so I use kabuki brushes for putting on mineral foundation.

I believe the kabuki is also useful for applying poweder to set your liquid foundation.

It's really up to you :D

  • I use mineral mu too. Is the brush too small for that?

    Thanks.

  • no, it still works good :D

  • i know kabuki brushes and paddle brushes are used to put on powder and works well for mineral makeup users (i use mineral foundation). what i don't know is does the end result of using either of this brushes differ and if so which one should i use for the best result? oh and is there a difference between the pink kabuki and the regular brown kabuki besides the color difference? any information would help, thanks in advance! :]

  • you're gonna have to ask koren coz i only got the pink one. i don't really have experience using a paddle brush for putting on foundation (or anything else). i like putting on my mineral foundation in a circular motion, so it just made sense to me to get the round-shaped brush. it's really up to you to try and see if it works for you (the paddle brush). hope this helps :D

  • if you want more coverage, a kabuki or buffer brush is best as you can really buff the product into the skin. If you use mineral powder to set foundation, or to use it as a blotting powder then the paddle brush is great for that. No difference between the bukis, aside from the color really.

  • thanks so much for the information! you're awesome and i always get excited when you have a new video up. lol i'm a new subscriber and actually watched ALL of your videos last weekend (it was a Koren weekend for me) haha.

  • hi,

can you get these at a local retail store, beauty supply or are they just online?

  • Just online unless you live near Coastal Scents store!!

  • i got my brushes today, omg, they are sooooooo good, the duo fiber are amazing as well as the black paddle brush, the shadow brushes were okay, but still usable

  • Can't wait for you to review the PINK brush colection!!! I want them all :) Can you recommend me between the New Pink colection or the Italian Bager ? Have a good one.. Thanks ;)

  • i have both, the italian badger is far superior.

  • great....

  • oh those look nice, I am going to check those out.

  • Oh my-you are so amazing!! I am building my shopping cart as I write this :) One quick question-have you come across anything comparable to the MAC 252? Thank you so much! You are truly a 'guru' and I absolutely love your videos!!

  • hey Arm - yes, Loew Cornell have a filbert cut brush in golden taklon similar to 252. Check out Michaels.

  • love ur work! I enjoy watching your vdo and now I'm so addicted.

  • Oh just saw their new pink brush line! I want them all..Can you pls suggest me , I want to get a whole new set of brush from them, but don't know which one I should get? ( seem like I need all of them ;) Thank heaps.

  • I just saw the new pink handle brushes. Sooo Cute! I would love to order them but not without your review first. Will you review those soon?

  • I am going to review them - Im testing them right now, and OMG I love the pink handles. We'll see how the bristles do.

  • I recieved my order today from Coastalscents I really like them I ordered deluxe buffer brush, duo fiber stippling brush, foundation concealer brush large, eyeliner brush-super fine(love eyeliner brush works great with fluidline makes a really thin line) facial brush, italian bagder chisle fluff brush and also order bare naked glaze lip gloss all for a total of 37.67 including shipping. The brushes are nice!! They were packaged very nicely in a drawsting bag plus a free sample of eye shadow

  • thanks for this video, i never knew what a fan brush was used for, now i know :)... and i think i need one hehe

  • THIS IS THE REASON WHY YOU'RE the EXPERT. :)

  • Hey Enkore thanks for all the info. I was just wondering if your badger brushes blead when you clean them? I heard someone on specktra say that thiers did. Thanks again!

  • hey tasti - i didnt see any bleeding on these. I nitially washed them, when I got them which is what I advise everyone to do when you get new brushes - and i just notice very faint yellow on the shampoo suds, which is normal as thats caused by the STARCH manufacturers use on the bristles to protect the bristles when stored. Otherwise, no black bleeding or anything I noticed.

  • Good to hear =) Thanks

  • coastalscents should set up a store for easier access.. lol another great video koren! keep em comin. we all <3 ya!

  • Yadahmean they do have a store, located in Naples, Florida.

  • cheap = inexpensive.

I prefer the word inexpensive, it sounds less cheap than the word "cheap".*wink*

MAC is a great line, but the MAC brand is not affordable for many people, including me.

  • Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to educate us on makeup!

  • Thank you for the great reviews on these brushes. They really are great alternatives - not just to MAC but other brands as well. I adore the badger line and they are in the regular rotation for me. Thank you!!

  • I have just found a package from the CS in my mailbox (Italian Badger Brush Set, travel size). CS even included a free gift (Mineral Blush), which is very nice! As my free brush from Lancome is about to fall apart, I'm very much looking forward to using these brushes. They are really soft.

  • Koren, you did such a wonderful job of articulating the differences between a MAC brushes and these brushes, I really both your excitement in finding these alternatives, as well as your respect for MAC. BTW, I purchased the paddle brush AND LOVE IT! Both for my mineralized skin finish & my studio fix powder. I have a MAC 187 duo fiber -- I think I'll return it tho, I'm not really liking it for powders as it doesn't seem to pick up much product -- better for liquid foundation I think.

  • opps - I meant to say "...really APPRECIATE both your..."

  • i actually went to Michael's yesterday and spent a good 15 minutes in their brush section... i tried em on my skin... but i felt kinda silly ^^

    i didnt any..

im still waiting for my order from coastalscents.

  • Now, now, we all need to respect everyone's opinions. Some people will like them some people will not. Everyone have their own preferences. I totally respect Makeupsquare's opinions, and if she doesnt like something, she will definitely voice it out. Whether its good or bad reviews. And I hope same with my own reviews, that people will respect if I give somethings good, and some things bad.

  • Your chocolate analogy totally makes sense. Now I know what's the fan brush for!

  • aww Koren...I love your videos! Keep up the great work!

  • thanks for ur helpful tip!

  • I think a lot of people out there took the comparison of MAC brushes to CS brushes to mean comparable in "QUALITY", when he meant of the same "KIND".

  • Thank you Koren! I just wanted to let you know that I totally appreciate all your work and effort. I know that these are great brush alternatives and not the MAC IDENTICAL. I totally value and trust your opinions and reviews. GO ENKOREMAKEUP!

  • thanks koren!

  • Hey K,

I was wondering how this match up agianst ur Painting brushe's the tut u did a whlie back?

    xoxo Tish xoxo

  • hey Tish - there are certain brushes that you cant find in Painting Brush. Like the duo-fiber, I havent seen them in craft stores, as well as kabuki brushes and such. So definitely just another alternative for brushes that are harder to find in craft stores.

  • ok K,

    Thanks T/c Sweetie.

    xoxo Tish xoxo

  • Hi Koren,

I've become a regular youtube subscriber. I love them all! Anyway, I was wondering if you can do a makeup tut using these brushes. Thanks!

  • Hi Koren,

I've become a regular youtube subscriber. I love them all! Anyway, I was wondering if you can do a makeup tut using these brushes. Thanks!

  • koren, what about the synthetic set? i'm vegan... and they looked really cool! what do you think?

oh, and i am in love with all of your videos!

  • hey chuck - so far the synthetics I have from them are pretty good. So definitely give them a try.

  • i so want those badger brushes!!!!!

  • Which is better for loose powder, the MAC 134 or 150?

  • both are great powder brushes, i do however, personally like 150 for loose powders.
