How to install Warcraft 2 on Windows XP

I am using this on Windows 7 and everything is working perfect until I open from the shortcut. It says that I do not have the CD inserted into the drive and when I do to click "OK". It should be noted that I am installing the Dark Portal expansion as I already did the original game. it worked fine when I didn't have the shortcut but now it doesn't work...Help!! :(

Hey thank you SOO much for this, ive wanted to play this for a while (plus it worked just fine for me on a vista) One thing though , the sound and frame rate seems to lag a fair amount. I'm running this on a low quality laptop.. but star craft seems to work just fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated. Thanks :)

I have a problem, I can play after installing the games but if I shut down DOSBox (to stop playing) next time I want to play I have to install the games AGAIN.

For example, after installing warcraft 2 it says "war2 to run game" or something, and it works, but if I close dosbox the next time I type "war2" it says illegal command and I have to install the game again.

@Bubbasider This question is for you and anyone else thats following this step by step instructions. I followed your step by step just fine except for the last step. When I put SETUP in the command box, the message displayed.. ILLEGAL SETUP. I was wondering how to fix this. Thanks.

WHAT if ii have a dvd rom and not a cd rom? dosbox says me illegal type cdrom... what should i do?

Hey man, on DOSbox.74 there is no "configuration" window, so I cannot follow the steps to create a desktop icon for my warcraft 2. Otherwise, very helpful. Also, once I'm playing WAR2, how do I enlarge the screen? It shows up as some tiny box on my pc...

hey i loved the video i got the game running but now i cant get into single player mode because it says i need to enter the disk but the problem is the disk is already in the drive.

Hey this all works fine for me but when i made the shortcut it wouldnt recognize that i had the cd in the drive, its probably that it didnt dock my cd drive right can you tell me how to edit the target box to make this happen?

I just ordered warcraft 2 bnet edition and it won't install. I just think it's BS that old games won't work on new systems. It's honestly like having art burned never to be viewed again.

i followed all of the instructions from this video, and the game loads up its amazing, and I have the warcraft 2 tides of darkness disk, but when i click to play the game it tells me to "please insert the Warcraft 2 CD into your CD-ROM drive and press 'OK'." the disk is in my drive and not sure whats going on, do i need to get just the warcraft 2 disk because i only bought tides of darkness.

Thanks for posting the video, I did everything and i even used my original copy of Warcraft 2 Tides of Darkness to install, Man its been a while since i could play, But DOSBox recently updated to 0.74 and after following your vid the whole way through i clicked on my new icon and it started the game, But then when i clicked single player game it kept insisting i put the disc in, The problem is the disc was in and i still cant figure out whats happening anything you can think of will help Thanks-

Dosbox is up to .74 so the icon thing isn't working. How can I just run the game. I can mount my dosgames folder and the cdrom I just can't get it to run the game without going through setup again.

A long time ago i had the same type of computer as you and I used dosbox for daggerfall.. or hammerfall dont really remember the game, but anyways now i have a windows 7 vista and i cant figure out how to make it a C:\ for dosbox or something i also donwloaded wc3 but its icon is different and its not in a folder... so yea i need help lol

i solved the problem but there is another onee:

after tiping D:>SETUP it says: This program cannot be run in DOS mode.

the game is Anno 1602. maybe its to old, but is there another program, that i can download to run it?

you can just change the cycles during a game to make sure its running at right speed. ctrl f8 and f9 and ctrl f11 and f12 i THINK. nice video.

You may use a iso using daemon tools just remember to mount the emulated drive as a cdrom

@DonKnottsOwns Warcraft 2 Battlenet was released in 1999 and was a windows game... You'll just need to goto the .exe file, right click, goto properties, and under where it says "compatibility mode" run it in win95 or win98.

i am really bad a computers, but i love this game and i just can't get it to work on vista. i have the cd, and i have downloaded dosbox (if that is right?), but i don't know how to get it to work.

nope. its the original and its not scratched.... however i found a few fixes for it on the web but i forgot where to find them again lol :S

Are you sure it isn't the Warcraft 2 expansion?  Double check that and then see if your disc is scratched I guess.

I didn't figure they could like make ISO's for some reason for games that use DOS but now that I think about it the ISO is pretty much the CD...lol :P
