@djads your wrong, Railworks is a fantastic game now if you actually look at it you just need a fucking COMPUTER that can actually RUN a simulator. Although openbve is nice but i need to practice train driving so im sticking to railworks
I mean really ALL OF THIS is just AMAZING its free and you spent your spare time just to do this and i mean now today its amazing. With the 3d cab and interior and the watford to rugby junction.
But... not to spoil the game or any peoples feelings but the class 323 traction motor sound sounds rather unaccurate. The motor sounds a bit more louder and more noise parts. Yours... welll..... isnt sos. But try and do the traction sound a bit better but other than that i LOVE YOU!
@badboiant29 Steve Green and I tried to create some more realistic traction motor sounds a few years go, but we found it really difficult to get sound samples which were any good. I would like to try again at improving the motor sounds, maybe even synthesising them if I can't get hold of some suitable samples. :-)
I agree partially. The scenes look very realistic to me.I would rather have highly realistic sounds and physics akin to the real thing as opposed to great graphics and sub standard sounds and physics.
@37427 i kinda think the graphics are nice though.. If u notice that with railworks you get nice graphics, but stutter all the time, and regarding your pc specs u might have to tune them down... the graphics arent that special afterwards.. besides they look more ''toyish'' than here in this one, Just my opinion :) and on that other video.. When you see the train aproaching, looks almost like in reality! :)
this video is WIP ( Work In Progress ) of new updated routes for openbve, currently Cross City South is at V1.3, the version of Cross City South in this video is Work in progress Footage of V1.4, Watford Jn to Rugby is also WIP and the moving tree's/ weather effects/ new lighting effects are all part of these 2 newer routes, No release date has been announced yet, We are all looking forward to these 2 routes, great work RSR ( Railsimroutes) Excellent Routes so far keep up the good work :)
You do know you have to add files from other software projects in order to run OpenBVE, right? Check out the program's homepage for instructions on setting it up.
This is excellent project. But i have a question, how can make the opposite train running on track? I come form Hong Kong and exclusive to make HK MTR route. I hope input this skills into my Hong Kong Route.
Technically speaking, it's not a computer controlled train - it is merely an animated object, like the swaying wires and trees. It cannot follow the rails, and thus programming it to follow any sort of curve is an immensely complex procedure - and why in this instance it's merely travelling in a straight line toward you offset to the position of the RH Rail, on what happens to be a straight bit of track!
@urban8fxs: Thanks. :) The sparks are overdone for dramatic effect. I'd watched a few YouTube videos of pantograph sparking previously which were pretty impressive, but then again the wires were probably covered in ice which caused excessive sparking in those cases. Not sure whether or not I'm going to tone down the effect in the final release yet...
id quite like the train you featured here with the external views, is there anywhere I can get it? would really appreciate being able to use a centro train with external views cos this sim is just WOW!
go to google and type in "download BVE4" or pm me and I'll send you OpenBVE as im going to host it online too and will include the support files so that it can be played on Xp / Vista.
I'll detail whatever I can in the readme I will make shortly :)
Bordering on photo-realistic,the HD version shows the potential of graphics engine, still can't get over those tilting coaches.A milestone achievement in simulation.Thank's for posting this HD verssion.
From looking at this, it wont be long till opening doors, moving wheels. etc. I think this will be better than MSTS whcih always started as a 3D simulator. This has much better graphics :)
openBVE should work fine with Vista. There were no problems when I tested both a while ago, and peformance was largely the same in both XP and Vista if I recall correctly (on a dual core system, anyway).
I'd just like to apologise to dinosaurustaurus; I accidentally deleted your comment--I'm sorry... If you'd like to repost it I promise not to be an idiot next time. :)
XD No problem. So I can motivate you again by saying that both routes are looking great. ;-) And it's still difficult to distinguish between simulation and reality. Many features like superelevation, working security systems, bouncing trains, animated cables etc. are not supported by commercial simulations like MSTS or Rail Simulator. Thanks for your work!
I would agree with Nikos,OpenBve will be the definitive trainsim.Eye candy overload, swaying bushes, moving wire, light sourcing from the windows at night-wow from the last video I watched this is one hell of a leap forward in the visual dept, its as almost as though what you wish for is what you get.Nice video editing and camera work.Other simulators only need to check here to see whats potentially missing in theirs.-5 stars
Thank you. :) I could have made a couple of the transitions a little better, but never mind. :)
The lighting on the ground is created using a simple PNG texture with an alpha channel to provide smooth edges (as are the shadows), and the visibility of the ground lighting depends on the lighting levels set in the route.
This is amazing, BVE has really come along way.Possibly one of the most realistic train sim videos i have seen, the only thing really detracting from the realism is the poor quality trains, is it possible now with OpenBVE to have detailed trains with transparent windows and animated wheels?
I'm creating new 323 objects at the moment, as the functionality that enables animation to be used in the exterior objects is now available. :) I can make them as simple or as detailed as I like, it'll depend on what framerates I get. I'm making the scenery a higher priority given that you can also see this from within in the cab, and openBVE is primarily a cab-view simulator, but I should be able to include seats, transparent/tinted windows, working wipers/doors, rotating wheels, etc. :)
Excellent video demonstration. It just goes to show what OpenBVE is capable of doing. I really like the way how everything has been brought to life, from the pantograph sparking to fluttering butterflies, its a new generation of train simulaion. I was very impressed by the Jubilee Line (I'll admit that I was actually a little jealous when it was released, it looked so good!), so I'm really looking forward to seeing what animated objects you can add if you have time. :)
I still hand code all my objects, even the AC locos and Mk2s featured in the other video, and the new 323 I'm working on. :)
You did an excellent job of capturing some of the best elements of openBVE.
I am an old MSTS fan but I have been too busy to do much SIMing.
I am at a point now where I think I will download openBVE and start the process of getting the trains and routes I want.
Can anyone recommend the best "Starter Kit" for someone who really loves Trains?
PM me if you want.
My Computer will handle almost anything I throw at it so the sky is the limit.

Indeed. :) For me, it's down not only to the physics simulation, cab functionality and sounds, but also the focus on lineside and near-track scenery.
