  • Really helpful video. I'm just starting out in a home studio, years after basic ceramics training as part of my degree course in education. I've done leaf and flower forms on porcelain pots in the past and this will really help me refine my techniques. What glaze do you use? Do you mix your own or is it commercially bought? I love my pieces when they are bisqued, but often like them much less after glazing - which is a shame given the amount of time they take to build (I am a perfecftionist!!).

  • 5:10 Was my favorite!! I love the shape...... So elegant :D

  • Such great videos! Wonderful ideas and great instruction.

  • I absolutely loved the video... please try and speak up, or put the mic closer...

as well as put your camera so your hands are in the center... I do love what you showed us, thank you... much appreciated. Kathie

  • Thank you for sharing this, I love all of your videos

  • Thanks David. Your demo is and if I succeed I'll send you a pix.dorie

  • David K, that was an excellent demonstration on making morning glories. I have a porcelain flower video too. Making ceramic rose, lily, lotus and tulip. I love your ideas and now can improve on my thinness of flowers, thank you. Kathryn H Calabasas

  • @superethantube Thanks for your comments. I make other types of flowers too, including some that I just make up, they are not natural floral reproductions. I didn't find your videos on youtube. Are you under another user name?

  • Another great couple of videos David. I like the way they turned out with the green celadon glaze. While watching I was thinking that this would also be interesting if the flowers were porcelain and the body a dark stoneware or vice versa. I wonder if one could make the porcelain the consistency of frosting and use cake decorating techniques to make roses etc. This would also work well using the flat side of your larger oval pieces as a pallet. Thanks again for the inspiration.

  • Oh, and hey, I am a photographer/videographer by trade, so if you ever have any questions you want to run by me, please let me know. I'd be glad to help!

  • David! Thank you so much for doing this one. It helps me so much to watch how you make your beautiful masterpieces. Someday, I want to take a trip to CA to visit your studio! I want to buy one of your flower vases and some of your wife's place-settings. Thank you again for sharing your experience and knowledge!

  • Thanks so much! It is pretty hot here ( Central Valley, CA) and I am a novice. I'll do some misting and minimal application as you suggested to see how it goes:) I love morning glories so I'm looking forward to making these flowers. I'll be sure to send a photo!

  • This was amazing...loved it!

I do have a question, how are you keeping everything moist enough from making the stems/flowers to putting them on the pot? I'm having a real challenge with my clay drying way to fast. Thanks!

  • There are a few variables with the clay drying out too fast. How hot and dry is it where you are and how fast do you work. It takes me about 45 mins to make all of those pieces, the clay is about right when I start to apply the pieces. If they start to dry I just mist them with water. Remember you don't have to have so many pieces on a pot, especially to start, work up to an elaborate form, start simple. Some of my favorite pieces have had very little decoration. Send me a pic, when you are done

  • I'm with Evan. Thank you so much for this demo! I watch as many as I can find on the internet and your style of teaching and presentation are really excellent. Would you consider producing a longer instructional for sale?

I really will be watching this over and over.

    Thanks!!!

  • wow those are beautiful i wish i could decorate vases like that.

im going to watch this video over and over till i can do them just as good as the great D.Cuzick!

  • Ok, Evan that is a little over the top, but thanks. Evan works with me at my studio....I told him no one was commenting on this video so he felt obliged to do so, with great enthusiasm!
