@QcTom101 To be totally exact, this type of transmissions are called 'robotized transmissions" because not only the clutches of them are electronically controlled but so are the gearboxes themselves. Though you may shift by hands but you actually handle only electric switches. So, this is not a manual one just something like that.

To clarify the gearbox in this car is an SMG Sequential Manual Gearbox. A manual box with hydraulic controls for the gears and clutch. Which ever gear you're in, the next one is ready to engage for faster gear changes. Its not a normal manual converted to SMG like the E36 and E46 M3, this box is specific to the E60 M5 and E63 M6. An automatic has gear packs with brake bands and no clutch. There is a massive difference between an automatic and an SMG box.

BMW's automatic is called steptronic(tiptronic), but the M5/M6 is not a automatic because their is no torque convter. Also the new M3(E90/E92) has a double clutch transmission like the one's they use in Formula 1 racing.

The simple word for it is "Transmition". However, there are multiple types of gearboxes: Manual (human shifts, one clutch), Sequential Manual (one clutch, human controlled computer shifts), Dual-clutch Transmition (Two clutches, human controlled computer shifts), automatic (slushbox, torque converter, no clutch, computer controlled) - tiptronic/steptronic is automatic but has a human controlled mode, keeping slushbox, torque converter and all the automatic crap.

Not the same. Your SRT8 tip has a torque converter so its an automatic. SMG is a manual transmission with a hydraulic powered clutch that shifts the gears.

BMW's SMG and DCT has no torque convter. The Torque converter is what makes a automatic transmission. BMW's SMG is the same style transmission as Ferrari's F1, Lamborghini's E-gear.

That's because the stupid driver drove it in D mode with BMW's Kickdown revving it up just till the red line starts. So it's not going into the redline too bad. In S mode its going a little bit in the redline. But on fullest, you better shift ur own.

thats SMG not steptronic, and it is a manual (single-clutch manual) the shift times are very quick, in S6 mode it can change gears in .08 seconds.

lol kind of agree. I love the M5, but I think the RD Sport exhaust is the best. With this exhaust, you can't hear the throatyness of the engine, only the high pitch frequencies. The M5 sounds best when you can distincly hear its broad array of frequencies because nothing else sounds like it - a combo of the throaty tone and the super high revving ferrari sound.
