Apart from being a musical freak, and possibly the most accomplished musician in the world - he also comes from THE LAND OF DOWNUNDER.
So James probably thought, in his own inimitable way, that playing with the valves pointing down and played with the fingers under them made perfect sense - and he is brilliant enough to be able to pull it off.
I'm not sure there is anything that guy can't do on any thing that you can make music with.
@wossenschmidt James probably has a few to spare lol. Besides they'd probably just give him a new horn for free. Promotional kick-backs, baby!! Love em
The trumpet is hard (I do play, have for a long time) because you only have 3 keys, which means pitch has to be changed by air flow and lip speed. Which is a bitch, your lips have to build a tolerance to it as well.
Sure is Nastyj. and unsidedown is even worst. but the thing that is most im pressive is When he turns the trumpet round. you have to have such low preasure against the mounth peice its Insane.
Lol, You can't really brag about playing trumpet cornet and flugel horn.. They're all a variation of the same instrument.. All in the key of Bb, and all use the same mouthpiece/embouchure. Any trumpet player is a cornet player, and any flugel horn player is a trumpet player.
acctually they all have different ranges, different techniques are used to produce diffeerent tones and sound quality and they are all used to show different skills of the player etc. How was that bragging . i mearly put it at the end of a comment!! so just get a life. because you obviously haven't got one already cos you just sit on your computer making daft comments on youtube!!!
Actually, no. Fluglehorn and trumpet both have the same range, unless they are two completely different keyed instruments (ex, Eb Trumpet and Bb Flugelhorn). They do not show a difference in skill of the player either. They are virtually the same instrument designed differently. Thanks for TRYING to act like you know what you're talking about, though.
Actually,YES. They do show different skills. A Flugel horn Player needs to be able to play softly with lots of legato and bring a rich mellow sound to the music they are playing! BUT.....A trumpet player needs to be able to play brightly and loudly (not all the time) and bring a fanfare like atmosphere to the music. Everyone can do these things. But only people that play both instruments very often and practice often can do this WELL. So in conclusion You need to be good to understand me!
No, they do not show different skills at all. Playing legato or softly all depends on the genre of music you're playing. For instance, you'd NEVER hear a trumpet fanfare in a funeral march. You'd hear trumpets playing legato, with a dark rich tone. While you're right about flugel horns having diferent tones than trumpets, they do not need to play legato just because they're a flugel and not a trumpet. Many types of jazz use a flugel horn, in which case articulation varies, if you've ever played.
Look man. I obviously dont care as much as you do as it seems to mean the world to you .And you think that if you win this argumant you would have accomplished sumthing in life but you still havent mate , sorry.'So you win!!'

Although the flugelhorn has the same range as the trumpet, it does tend to distort the sound at a louder volume and range. But the flugel is a trumpet that has been heavily modified.
My father, the late RED BORLAND,from PA, played trumpet w FREDDY MARTIN, Wingy Manone, Orrin Tucker, Russ Morgan, Will Osborne, Stan Kenton, Frankie Carle, George Liberace. He traveled for a time with Gene Autrys group, did Genes radio program, and he was with Lloyd Huntley and The Isle o' Blues Orchestra. I figured someone out there must have known him or know of him.

naa. your right about playin it upside down.its relativley easy. its playing it while turning the trumpet thats the most amazing part. you have to have so little pressure on the lips. nice one
He can play higher, he just doenst have to. As if everythign is about playing just high and thats all.. if thats how you judge skill then you are a fag.
I never said that skill was based on how high someone hits.... I hate people who jump to conclusion. I'm just saying, he seems to be struggling to hit that note when Maynard Ferguson, who was already awarded best trumpeteer in history hits things twice as high (judging on the trumpet scales) easily. I never said everything was about playing high and I don't think that either. I judge skill by tone, technique and range. Not range alone.
i do not. maynard is a great trumpetist, one of my personal favorites, but lets be honest, hes not the best. he can play high notes and make them sound higher. thats it. jon faddis could outscream, arturo could outscream him, eric miyashiro can outscream him, and all these players (other than eric) are known for things other than their range. maynard just sounds so bad ass when heplays high, its more fun to listen to.
