Fast diesel...and very unreliable. Silly americans should live and drive in Europe before to talk so well about diesel. Modern diesel are too complicate and very problematic. Ok,VW marketing is very strong and americans are so gudgeons...By the way americans are not interested in fuel efficiently cars, They still buy big, useless and definitely not fuel efficiently big truck. How lame the americans can be?
americans have big cars with big engines and they are so proud of it. but it's not a smart decision to drive a hummer when u r going to work at rush hour.
their engines are also very different. i think if i tell to an american that my car has a 1.6 petrol engine that produces 200hp, it's an 80% chance he won't belive a car like that exists
Not bad. Its less than half a second slower than the V8. And its not too expensive, it can be yours for about $42 grand. A diesel is fine in an SUV like this, but those people saying that it should be in every type of car are mistaken.
@DualofChaos not me. diesel is awesome. mercedes diesel . 376 ft lbs torque. DAMN!!!!!!!! 3l v6. bmw 330d. 416 ft lbs torque. yikes! i want one badly. my next car may be a 330d. if they are still around in 10 to 20 yrs. right now i have a gas hog wrx.
I have checked numerous web sites and find that Rudolph Diesel, in fact, invented the diesel engine. None of those sites give any credit to Mercedes and there is no mention of Rudolph Diesel ever worked for Mercedes. Just thought I would point that out.
The V10 was nice but put the Touareg in the $75,000 range. The V6 application works very well. A fully loaded TDI Touareg is in mid-50's here. Quite a savings over the V10 and much more reasonable as a daily driver.
Diesel engines will soon take out gasoline engines, as they should have in the beginning. They last longer, less maintenance, & now, they're cleaner, & more efficient. Thanks to Mercedes Benz for inventing the Diesel Engine! I'll be buying my first Brand new Vehicle, which will for sure be a Turbo Diesel. The GTI is QUICK!My first choice is the ML420 or 320 Bluetec, 2nd is VW.I should have test drove this model.Got to go drive it for sure now.BIODIESEL is the FUTURE FUEL!
Check your facts bud, the diesel engine was invented by Rudolf Diesel in the late 1890's. Then engine was originally run on Peanut oil, not our current diesel fuel.
@Airox2009 There are two things that can make even the worst quality turbo work for life. Allow the engine to idle before and after moving and use a good quality fully synthetic engine oil. Apart from that there is absolutely no problem with diesel engines. You get all the power, torque with the fuel economy. Reliability is not an issue with the modern diesel engines. Trust me, i have a lot of experience :-)
This thing weights almost 2,5 tons... so for it's size the performance is sweet.
I own a Dodge Caliber 2.0 TDI(european version with a german engine), 1500 kilos, 185HP(!!!!), 0-60 in less than 8 secs, and averages 6l/100 km(less than fucking hybrids!)
When you compare this to the retarded prehistoric engines USA is producing, these figures are like from Star Trek.
Prehistoric hmm I'm happy enough with the Ford GT beating about every European sports car twice the price. Or the Push rod ZR1 getting excellent mpg and HP
The U.S. doesn't really produce any small diesel cars its mostly just VW here however shove a 6bt down your tail pipe at one point the most common diesel in Europe and although it was built in the UK it was from all American design
who gives a rats ass about Ford GT, it's not like everyone in USA is driving it, get a clue, dude.
I'm talking common cars here, USA managed to suck the worlds oil supply dry in 60 years thanks to your stone age retarded gas-guzzling engines.
Yet, when the planet is running out of fuel, USA is the first country to preach, whine and cry how we ALL need to start making more fuel efficient cars.
WELL NO SHIT, it's what the rest of the world was doing the last 60 years.
The answer will never be smaller cars because they cannot suit the life styles and they cannot handle the driving conditions. Its not uncommon for me to drive 2,000 miles in a month at 70-80mph you need bigger engines for that point in case my first car was a big crown victoria but for my style of driving it was better than the honda i got right after it.
for your driving style, a diesel would suit you best. diesels are durable and brawny, suited to highway driving. like the bmw 335d. gets 36 mpg on the highway, yet goes from 0-60 in 6 seconds.
The Aston Martin is hardly British its far more american and fyi
I currently drive a Mercedes diesel
lolz
Anyways when I had a crown vic it was getting about 36mpg for how and where I drive about the same as my Mercedes does. The only thing is in town the Mercedes far exceeds the big crown vic because the v8 takes so much in stop and go.
besides the 335d is very small and bmw diesels aren't the most reliable from what I know.
did you just say the aston martin is american?! how? are you retarded? it's body is hand-crafted in england with a swedish interior and a german engine. the chassis and suspension are british as well, nothing about it is american.
actually I got 45mpg in a crown vic @45mph I think thats awesome out of a 17 foot 2 ton car. my diesel doesn't seem to matter how the driving style is it hardly ever changes I have varied from 17mpg to 45mpg in a crown vic in a honda 20-25mpg and my diesel 30-40mpg
And the cop car was a retired cop car with 100k miles by on it so it had tons of abuse. I bought the car for $1000 if it gives you any clue to what shape it was in.
Fuel economy, high levels of torque - much higher than gasoline engines, most of the power available at low rpm, very quiet (new ones). In other words they're good for highway cruising.
the ford gt is hardly american. steering came from the aston martin vanquish, the gearbox was german, the suspension and chassis was developed by lotus, and the brakes and wheels were italian. and the viper acr's chassis is german as well.
3l v6 three ton rig. miata straight line performance. awesome cornering .stops on a dime. just think of the v10 duide. jesus christ this thing would run rings around your sports car and tow a trailer too
