  • I drove a Ford Mondeo when I was in the UK. 6 speed diesel - man i want that much low end torque again! Wish there were more diesels in Canada.

  • they need to throw one of those diesel v6's in a GTI

  • The only decent volkswagen diesel engine is the 1.9tdi! The rest are poo. The 2.0 and 2.5 shite themselves so easy!

  • By the way the VW Touareg is the worst and less dependable SUV according to J.D Power and Consumer Report, lol.

  • Fast diesel...and very unreliable. Silly americans should live and drive in Europe before to talk so well about diesel. Modern diesel are too complicate and very problematic. Ok,VW marketing is very strong and americans are so gudgeons...By the way americans are not interested in fuel efficiently cars, They still buy big, useless and definitely not fuel efficiently big truck. How lame the americans can be?

  • i will buy one one day

  • americans have big cars with big engines and they are so proud of it. but it's not a smart decision to drive a hummer when u r going to work at rush hour.

their engines are also very different. i think if i tell to an american that my car has a 1.6 petrol engine that produces 200hp, it's an 80% chance he won't belive a car like that exists

  • 've walked into a v8 performance is Very Good Puch and strong

  • Perfect car

  • I dont get why this country wont allow the V10 tdi to be sold here? so what if it pollutes a little more.

  • Dear Santa..

  • The R50 would be a lot of fun if they imported a few to the US

  • mine 2009 Oettinger up graded in May 2010 (6.771$) = 56.8 MPG highway and 48.5 MPG city !!!!

even better with 74 more HP and 119 Ft Lbs Torque

  • goood gooooodddd touareg

  • german product.

  • beats our big ford diesel

  • Not bad. Its less than half a second slower than the V8. And its not too expensive, it can be yours for about $42 grand. A diesel is fine in an SUV like this, but those people saying that it should be in every type of car are mistaken.

  • @DualofChaos not me. diesel is awesome. mercedes diesel . 376 ft lbs torque. DAMN!!!!!!!! 3l v6. bmw 330d. 416 ft lbs torque. yikes! i want one badly. my next car may be a 330d. if they are still around in 10 to 20 yrs. right now i have a gas hog wrx.

  • it is expensive as more as mercedes or bmw but it is nothing..

  • they shouldn't have gotten rid of the v10

  • The V10 was nice but put the Touareg in the $75,000 range. The V6 application works very well. A fully loaded TDI Touareg is in mid-50's here. Quite a savings over the V10 and much more reasonable as a daily driver.

  • @vdubmahn The v8 TDI is more powerful, faster, lighter, and more efficient than the v10, why keep it?

  • Diesel engines will soon take out gasoline engines, as they should have in the beginning. They last longer, less maintenance, & now, they're cleaner, & more efficient. Thanks to Mercedes Benz for inventing the Diesel Engine! I'll be buying my first Brand new Vehicle, which will for sure be a Turbo Diesel. The GTI is QUICK!My first choice is the ML420 or 320 Bluetec, 2nd is VW.I should have test drove this model.Got to go drive it for sure now.BIODIESEL is the FUTURE FUEL!

  • I've got a 11,000 miles on a jetta TDI, it is an interesting vehicle.

  • Over 400,000 km on my TDI.

  • @junglist1soldier

Check your facts bud, the diesel engine was invented by Rudolf Diesel in the late 1890's. Then engine was originally run on Peanut oil, not our current diesel fuel.

  • I though it was grain dust, and that was the fuel he tired that nearly killed him in an engine explosion

  • @Aringer20k coal dust. your are right with the rest though. he then went to oil.

  • Mercedes inventing the diesel.......HaHa......you sir FAIL!

  • Comment removed

  • @junglist1soldier eeeeeerrmmmm you know shit about cars and engines.... and merc did not invent diesel engines

  • @junglist1soldier

I agree on a lot of points but disagree with the lower maintenance. Faulty turbos are only one weak spot on diesel engines.

  • @Airox2009 There are two things that can make even the worst quality turbo work for life. Allow the engine to idle before and after moving and use a good quality fully synthetic engine oil. Apart from that there is absolutely no problem with diesel engines. You get all the power, torque with the fuel economy. Reliability is not an issue with the modern diesel engines. Trust me, i have a lot of experience :-)

  • I luv touaregs and i love german engineering I luv my GTI MKV

  • this is tha SUV. its capabilities are are awesome!

its just that its a 5 seater. and Q7 is 7 seater. they even use the same diesel engine. i would buy this over Q7.( although i love q7),

  • like this ...;)

  • VOLKSWAGEN RULES

  • very gooooooooood

  • .80g? en mexico logra .90g =D

  • very strong end very sexy

  • volkswagen makes such great diesel engines we need more clean diesel engines in america. way more efficient than gasoline

  • i bet the V10 tdi would be faster at everything

  • besides the fact that the v10 would be Much heavier and more sluggish in the higher end, which diesel engines dont have much of anyway.

  • yup thats the fastest. and the most poweful. its can even tow a jumbo 747. what else can you ask for :D

  • this is the 6 cylinder. You are talking about the V-10 buddy.

  • yes, but the v6 in this baby is good too. i commented that q7 diesel and vw toureg share the same engine. ie : v6 tdi 240 bhp

  • Diesels arent so bad.....i've got 1 and it smokes the 3.6 V6 petrol so?

  • Diesels are not bad..... they KICK ASS :D

    Having 200hp from a 2.0 and averaging 6l/100km=WIN.

  • Id test it against the porsche cayenne.

  • The Cayenne Diesel has the same engine. Which Cayenne did they compare it with???

  • yes this is the same 3.0 tdi ;]

  • Both the Porsche and VW were built side by side

  • The Porsche and VolksWagon were built side by side.

  • German= best diesels.

    fact...........

    :D

  • That's actually pretty decent for a diesel SUV.

  • That's not very bad considering its a diesel SUV...

  • that thing is slow as shit my duramax would out run it pulling one of those

  • show me a 2.0 litre duramax engine with 200hp that needs 6l/100 km, or a 3.0 duramax engine with 290 hp that burns 8L/100 km.

  • How about a benz diesel

    Blutec far exceeds this

  • European car technology is just at a completely different technological level than american, almost saddens me...

  • i will still get the duramax Gm vehicle

  • This thing weights almost 2,5 tons... so for it's size the performance is sweet.

I own a Dodge Caliber 2.0 TDI(european version with a german engine), 1500 kilos, 185HP(!!!!), 0-60 in less than 8 secs, and averages 6l/100 km(less than fucking hybrids!)

When you compare this to the retarded prehistoric engines USA is producing, these figures are like from Star Trek.

    Sad, but true...

  • Prehistoric hmm I'm happy enough with the Ford GT beating about every European sports car twice the price. Or the Push rod ZR1 getting excellent mpg and HP

The U.S. doesn't really produce any small diesel cars its mostly just VW here however shove a 6bt down your tail pipe at one point the most common diesel in Europe and although it was built in the UK it was from all American design

  • who gives a rats ass about Ford GT, it's not like everyone in USA is driving it, get a clue, dude.

I'm talking common cars here, USA managed to suck the worlds oil supply dry in 60 years thanks to your stone age retarded gas-guzzling engines.

Yet, when the planet is running out of fuel, USA is the first country to preach, whine and cry how we ALL need to start making more fuel efficient cars.

WELL NO SHIT, it's what the rest of the world was doing the last 60 years.

  • I've been to europe have you been to the U.S.

The answer will never be smaller cars because they cannot suit the life styles and they cannot handle the driving conditions. Its not uncommon for me to drive 2,000 miles in a month at 70-80mph you need bigger engines for that point in case my first car was a big crown victoria but for my style of driving it was better than the honda i got right after it.

The only solution would be a good train system.

  • for your driving style, a diesel would suit you best. diesels are durable and brawny, suited to highway driving. like the bmw 335d. gets 36 mpg on the highway, yet goes from 0-60 in 6 seconds.

  • The Aston Martin is hardly British its far more american and fyi

I currently drive a Mercedes diesel

    lolz

Anyways when I had a crown vic it was getting about 36mpg for how and where I drive about the same as my Mercedes does. The only thing is in town the Mercedes far exceeds the big crown vic because the v8 takes so much in stop and go.

besides the 335d is very small and bmw diesels aren't the most reliable from what I know.

  • a 335d is very small? dude,what the hell?

do you drive with your entire furniture to work?

why the hell would you need a 7 meter long v8 truck to drive to work?

I've been to the states several times, and i saw housewives drive their HUMMERS to work.

Diesels are the best engines in the world when it comes to long highway driving.

    On the highway,driving at 150 km/h my 2.0 TDI averages 4-5l/100 km.

And,for some odd reason,if you didn't notice, european cars despite being smaller, are more spacious.

  • did you just say the aston martin is american?! how? are you retarded? it's body is hand-crafted in england with a swedish interior and a german engine. the chassis and suspension are british as well, nothing about it is american.

  • actually I got 45mpg in a crown vic @45mph I think thats awesome out of a 17 foot 2 ton car. my diesel doesn't seem to matter how the driving style is it hardly ever changes I have varied from 17mpg to 45mpg in a crown vic in a honda 20-25mpg and my diesel 30-40mpg

And the cop car was a retired cop car with 100k miles by on it so it had tons of abuse. I bought the car for $1000 if it gives you any clue to what shape it was in.

  • Diesels are durable but turbos, filters, sensors and other things on them are not. They're generally too complicated these days.

  • yup, it's 2009 and making complicated tech is a bad idea.

    Let's stick to huge gas-guzzlers ;)

  • I didn't say that. I'm just saying that cars like good ol' Mercedes with diesels lasting 3,000,000 kilometers aren't built anymore.

  • Yes, and it's a real damn shame.

A friend of mine had one of these old Mercedes' for a few years, damn thing seemed indestructible.

The new diesels are quite durable, too.

There's no way they will last 3,000,000 km's, but if used properly, they can serve you for a long, long time ;)

  • Actually, I know a guy who services his 240 in my friend's service and it'll have 3,000,000 km on it soon.

  • what are the advantages of a diesel engine???

  • Fuel economy, high levels of torque - much higher than gasoline engines, most of the power available at low rpm, very quiet (new ones). In other words they're good for highway cruising.

  • it takes at least 20 years to drive 3,000.ooo km.

  • I have a TDI with 400,000 km on it and it still runs great.

  • That car is more than 30 year old.

  • the ford gt is hardly american. steering came from the aston martin vanquish, the gearbox was german, the suspension and chassis was developed by lotus, and the brakes and wheels were italian. and the viper acr's chassis is german as well.

  • i like the tuareg but the phaeton is in eyes a better car and looks like an car made in this year but it is form 2002

this video is great i like it and *****

  • That is damn plenty fast for a 2.3tonne truck with a diesel

  • ILOVE THIS CAR!

  • Anyone know what the MPG's are on this diesel?

  • Well not bad acceleration to 60 but you should test the Q7 V12 TDI.

  • rubbish

  • Not exactly fast.

  • 3l v6 three ton rig. miata straight line performance. awesome cornering .stops on a dime. just think of the v10 duide. jesus christ this thing would run rings around your sports car and tow a trailer too

  • just so you know these test numbers aren't very good...

  • this is the v6. just think of the v10. holy shit

  • this is now a v10

  • wait, so this isn't a v10 tdi?

if not, then what is the point of this test?!

  • Wouldn't it make more sense to use the V10 diesel for this test?

  • probably fast diesel suv

  • Not fast at all.

  • an X5 diesel would be alot better than this.

  • Idk, my dad's X5 diesel is boring and heavy.

  • 1:11 that is the ugliest weather for summer time..... wtf???

  • It's smog from, ironically, too many cars.

  • performs not only well for an SUV, but especially well for a diesel SUV

  • I have a jetta tdi, I love it! diesel is cheaper than gasoline and the fuel economy is just an added bonus.

  • Where is diesel cheaper than gas? Not where i live.

  • Nowhere. The idea is to spend a little more but waste \ buy less fuel. So you actually save money because diesel is more efficient than gas.

  • Southwest Michigan is about 40 to 50 cents per gallon cheaper.

  • Southern California, last time I filled up diesel was 2.69 and regular was 3$

  • Surely it would've made more sense to test the V10???

  • and the v6 v8 are the mass seller

  • Me pesonally

I have an experience with this car (2007)

Its heavy, very noisy. Although, feels good.

    didn't try off road .

    overall don't buy one .

  • Yeah, when tha gazoline prices rise, the hybrids and desils gets better performance.

Don't you see when "we Saudi Arabia" rise the gazoline prices, you guys have some work to do.

  • gasoline.... not gazoline

  • it's the best german offroader for me...

  • o yes!

  • I'm stunned. If you bought a VW TDi....even 3 years ago, it was quite noisy, but these new ones are so quiet, it's incredible.

  • Sure, the gasoline engine rather than the physical limit to exceed the 5500 or 6000rpm as have the diesel. Only the diesel engine built by Ricardo Engineering for the 24h LeMans can overcome this natural limit. But was a experimental racing engine 6.0 Lt V10 40v Twin Turbo piezo injectors 600/700bhp At 6500rpm and this engine haved never won a race.Only the V12 TDI installed in the Audi R10 haved won in all the world.

  • I'm glad someone already the Audi R10 TDi, that thing is stupid fast, and yes it's diesel.

  • need the v10 =D

  • Hells yea dude im with u on that one!

  • What does w/ rollout mean?

  • It means the car is allowed to roll forward one foot before the timer starts.

  • They let the car "roll" a foot before flooring the throttle

  • Thank you to both

  • Audi R10 TDi took victory on the 24h of Le Mans in 2006. That's what a diesel can do.

  • I know that but I don't think they are making a big comeback as a consumer car.

  • Maybe for the "normal" consumer but diesel offers comfort and cheaper prices for a refill.

Could be that more diesels are driven here in Europe then in the U.S. though. Almost every mini-van, van or MPV that belongs to a company is diesel powered here.

  • I don't doubt you, I'm originally from Ukraine. BUT diesel is only big in work vehicles here, and I don't see how it offers comfort. A diesel engine is much more unpleasant than a petrol engine.

  • Diesels CAN offer comfort because a diesel can be more quiet then any petrol engine. Why do you think alot of German luxurys are available with diesel engines? Comfort! Especially VW builds great diesel engines which are also being used in Audi's.

  • they are not quieter, they are louder and the make an annoying pick up truck sound. I haven't seen a Mercedes S550 with diesel yet.

  • @2hisk0

You really need to get yourself out of your cave and go drive a modern diesel. There are absolutely no comprimises in a diesel compared to a gasoline powered car or light truck. Try it you'll like it.

  • @lbart2005 i have driven heavy equipment diesels. tell ya.. its like a runaway freight train. my buddies f350 runs like a freight train too. damn.

  • @lbart2005 diesels are the best

only now the government fkn putting it higher than gasoline

    $1.28 per litre wtf man

  • @lbart2005 yea but you wont get that fun compared to gasoline powered engines.

  • Comment removed

  • thats a problem in the us though. in europe 87% of all sold SUVs are diesels and about 49% of cars are diesels.

  • I know but its kind of inconvenient in the US with a diesel. There are more petrol stations than diesel. In Europe there are diesel pumps at almost all of the petrol stations.

  • i think they will
