  • If Lincoln was honestly against slavery why would he have abolished it? To cripple the South? Even if he did this why would that have caused the South to stop when they were at war? , Lincoln put an end to the illegal African Slave Trade, which had been going continuously since before the nation was founded. No other president before him really tried - yet he did it in four years. Truly someone who defended slavery wouldn't have done that

  • Since no one's providing any background or context, this quote was stated during a debate for presidency. He was being accused of being an abolitionist, which he denied, because at the time, he wanted to preserve the Union, and he felt emancipation was the biggest danger to it. What he said was probably his own personal belief, and we have to take into account the world he was brought up in, in which blacks were considered inferior by nearly everyone.

  • IT IS AMAZING HOW WE ACCEPT INFORMATION ABOUT PEOPLE IN HISTORY, WITHOUT SEARCHING FOR THE TRUE FACTS ! Thank you for holding Lincoln under a true light I was taught from the time I was a child Lincoln had a mind free from bias and that's why he freed the slaves. MANY BLACKS IDOLIZED HIM, MANY WOULD KNEEL TO HIM IN HIS PRESENCE, IF THEY ONLY KNEW HE THOUGHT WHITES WERE SUPERIOR AND BLACKS WERE INFERIOR. ZACUAN YOU TAUGHT ME TO ALWAYS SEARCH FOR THE TRUE FACTS THANK YOU THANK YOU

  • Look at these fucking lunatics -- still scared of Lincolns full quotes and speeches.

Read Lincoln's entire quotes -- not the chopped up shit they pour down your neck. Every one of these fucking quotes have chopped Lincoln's words in half - and totallly reversed his meaning.

Why the FUCK wont you lunatics show his total quotes? Are you still that fucking scared of the truth?

  • 12flyme. Omit what comes after lengthy semicolons, ect. and you still have a man who was an advocate of "back to Africa" LITERALLY. There's nothing to be hysterical over: the war between the States was not fought to end slavery until it had been fought for several years, and by that time used by Lincoln to remove political pressure from the far left abolitionists in his party for reelection, and in the hope that it would cause slave uprisings.

The only raving idiot is in your mirror 12flyme.

  • Barry wrong -- as usual you retards ignore the rest of his speech, and the threats from slave rapers.

    1) read the whole speech dumb fuck

    2) Understand Davis and others were talking about exterminating -- killing -- the slaves if they had to free them,.

Did you know that Southern leders were talking about killing the slaves? That was their argument not to free them -- we would have to KILL them.

That's why Lincoln was for the VOLUNTARY removal of slaves that wanted to go dumb fuck.

  • When our new president lying about sweearing in on the Koran as a Senater the first time, He had no idea the 2nd time passing him self off as a Christian, when he swore in on lincons bible, this what he really thought of people of coler.

  • Lincoln was a tyrannt

  • And while the Emanicipation Proclamation did little to actually end slavery, it led to the 13th Ammendment in 1865. This would not have been possible without Lincoln's moral guidance.

  • Elhaup nonsense dumb fuck -- EP did a LOT to end slavery dumb fuck. First of all - it WON THE FUCKING WAR. Thats a hell of a start.

Second of all dumb fuck -- it destabilized the South. Union troops could remove slaves -- the Confederate slave rapers had to worry a lot more about slaves leaving. Of course, England and France stayed out of war.

So the EP did a WHOLE FUCKING lot to end slavery.

  • To know Lincoln is to know that a man has a right to change his views.

Lincoln cannot, no must not, be view with the same scrutiny as a man of the 21st century. He would never have been elected if his view had been what they were by the end of the Civil War... simply state: Lincoln's understanding and appreciation of African Americans grew as the war progressed.

  • Good point. While what he said in this video is often over looked (I never learned that he said that in public school, wonder why), and that sounds blatantly racist by todays standards, I do agree that its not accurate to judge him by today's standards.

  • truth hurts

  • I think it's important to recognize as many dimensions as we can on the issue especially in regards to Lincoln's role. I've often wondered how he'd feel about being called the Great Emancipator.

Regardless of his motivations for doing so, his role in the cause is a significant one.

  • Another example of Lincoln saying what they wanted to hear in order to gain the power to do what he knew was right. ~Barb (winspirit)

  • So he's a fucking liar? What a hero.

  • I often look upon him for quotes..I believe not in man made gods nor devils only mother nature...

When I do good, I feel good; when I do bad, I feel bad, and that is my religion. Abraham Lincoln (1809 - 1865),

  • A man who is steadfast in all his opinions is a man who could find himself stuck in the mud.

  • Well put. Home schoolers tend to continue to learn their entire life. Thank God Abraham Lincoln was home-schooled.
