An absolutely brilliant and often overlooked track IMO. I just wrote a piece of music where I used (For the first time ever LOL) a vocoder and it was while listening to Revolution by Jarre I got the idea. It's called Empty Child and you can listen by going to my channel if you'd like to hear something new :-)
love this, stayed up one night just to here a koncert by this genial mann. it was long time ago, and i was young. but i stayed up and just enjoyed the strange music, i have loved it since!
Sorry to disappoint you kevinatucia, but the reason given for this track was the 200 anniversary of the French Revolution. In the album sleeve, Jean - Michel devoted the song to children of revolution worldwide.
Jean Michel Jarre is a music genius! He changed music's history forever, being decades ahead of his time. Great vision, spectacular shows and a very modest artist. For one, I thank you, monsieur Jarre!
Revolution? I just see the System updating itself. Humans will remain slaves as long as most of them are selfish and ignorant. Of course, the System will always fight for it's own survival by maintaining scarcity.

@Nutrocker07 I remember that stewards were handing out black plastic bags for people to keep dry, the guy in front of me took 8 leaving me and my girlfriend with none. Great concert though.
Was there on the first night, Ethnicoulor made your bones rattle, this song seemed to go on forever and you hoped it would never end. This song was way ahead of its time and still is. Human, not Human, freedom No freedom, choice no choice,,,,,Revolution.
Mostly Iranians like this Video because in the original Video there were scenes of the Iranian Revolution which uprooted 10 million Iranian upperclass that now reside from Alaska to Newzealand.
If that is true then it's inspiring and this song is highly relevant at this moment in time.
From an English point of view there seems to be a very worrying prospects coming from Iran, and an extremely split country, much like the subtexts in this track.
Wish I actually went down to docklands to see this show, but decided not to in the end as there was some dross going on at the local pub that weekend. What a wasted weekend!!!!
I was there. My very first journey to that there London! I remember what seemed like a 30 mile que and rain. But even so - what a visual and audio extravaganza. Saw him last year play Oxygene live at the Albert Hall - that was the dogs b**ks.I would love to go to see a live version of Concerts in China - or Equinoxe and Magnetic Fields combo - but as he did with the Albert all - original gear and live.
I was at this gig!!!:D I can't believe I was only 8 years old at the time LOL! That was 20+ years ago and I still remember the rain. The gig was awesome!!!!
consept is mevlana soufism and the instrument is ''ney''. these are the elements of anatolia culture. i think ney is the best mystic instrument.. thanks to jarre about this beautiful music. 5 stars frum turkey...
Sure... signs in the Synthsized Voice Modulation. But hey... Kraftwerk played German "Marsch Musik" by comparison to the vitality of this performance !? Viva la Difference !
Thats because the dooshebag director had decided to trim the concer to down for TV, so what songs ARE missing, the rest have been trimmed down painfully. But that been said, I offically hate Mike Mansfield for creating this travesty...
Like many artists, as Jean travelled around the world he would have become more and more aware of different cultures, religions types of music as well as current affairs and this is certainly reflective in his music journey...
The strange thing about this song is that for me, it starts off REALLY bad. I didn't like the song when i first start listening to it. But then , strangely enough, the JMJ-magic kicks in and i start liking it...
seen jarre indoors in manchester...the show used lots of projections and holographic trickery....he had a neon tube sculpture thing which moved around making pictures...it was amazing.... very futuristic....im goin seein him again in manchester in may...always entertains.. .......ps...dont like m.e.n as a venue...got hassled off the meathead security...just because i was nt sat in my seat...no dancing allowed...sit down and clap...seig heil
gonna see him in birmingham may 24th sounds good by your comments hopefully no jumped up little hitler security stiffs and will let us stand if we want
Awesome awesome concert, I'd love this on DVD, does anyone know if it's available? The rain added so much to the atmosphere of the whole thing - always remember the slow mo rain slashing off the drum skins as they were being hit!
@iTellYouNoLie Oh yes......the way the powers that be treat us there needs to be a world wide peaceful revolution (sit-ins, strikes and non cooperation) where the people string up the banksters, corporates and their allies the politicians, then we can finally move on as a species and take our rightful place amongst the stars.
I used to adore JMJ - had all of his albums - then went to the Docklands concert and had one of the worst nights of my life..... what was WORSE than the rubbish weather was the fact it was SO obvious that this was pre-recorded and everything was mimed - the sound was perfectly the same as the album!!! Not only that he and Hank Marvin stood on the stage chatting - not even PRETENDING to play at one stage!!
Sounding LIKE it wasn't the problem - you obviously completely MISSED the point - the point was that it WAS the recording.... sounding LIKE it would have been fine..... duh!
Especially when the laserharp failed at La Defense and we were treated to about 2 minutes if live improv! No miming that day I can tell you for sure...everything went belly up big style!
I was there too and stood out side in a que for 8 hours with no toilets just a billboard to go behined who else remembers the people going around selling unbrellas for £5 and the silence walking back to the carpark
God I remember it like it was yesterday, leaving and ariving at the venue, i qued for the concert to find out it was the que for the burggger van .......no kiidding. It was damp and like you said there were no toilets. Still I had a great night.....and those memories will never leave me......Woooooohooooo, ain't he the best ....
What is there more to say, a pioneer on the synthesizer gerne. I think only a few may be compared to this man. Klaus shultze, Tangerine dream dont forget Kraftwerk, and offcourse Vangelis in the earlier years when he did more on the keys then composing classic.
JMJ is a man that gave electro a face. His is all over it in conjunction with the other names (IMHO) mentioned above. I think electro fans will agree with me on this one.
This is the greatest video I've ever seen.
