Linus, when you give audio sample, do fix the recording level of your camera volume since the camera will ramp up the volume if the noise lvl is too low...
@trankhanhvinhan The card is brand new so the heatsink cant be dirty. Also I just noticed that the card is the TOP version(which means its factory OCd at 925MHz core)
@Somethingcrappy He is using a test bench with all open airflow, which will produce temps of like 10 degrees lower than what you will see in the same situation, your card is probably just fine
Heyey. anyone know which of them thats the best?im about to buy one of em. and buy another one later to use SLI.but i has no damn clue if the 2gb is better then the 1gb. i will use a ASUS P8Z68-V PRO, Socket-1155
I hate a 2gb 6950 while running youtube and general browsing the temp is around 39-47 and while gaming its about 55-65. Is where the numbers need to be.
@aky19832001 If you have Adobe Flash Player set to hardware acceleration on, then yeah, you will get those temps while browsing. While turning it off will reduce them, you will notice a reduction in video quality.
@TLC673 Hehe, you'r right the 6990 doesn't perform as well as the 590, the 6990 destroys the 590. I've tested both on every iteration of 3DMark as well as the new Unigine at stock and overclocked speeds. Similar scores with x8 AA but when you run with reduced AA or none then AMD cards fly ahead in FPS. Ideally one could be cheap on their monitor and use x8 AA on Nvidia or get a higher res monitor and use x4 AA on AMD for the same FPS. Anyone who thinks different needs to check tomshardware.
@Jroch2410 Ok, thanks, I only started getting into computers (learning etc.) around April this year so I don't really know much about the 4xx and 5xxx series.
@MrFlyd1234 Depends on how much AA you want, if going for x4 then the 6870 (in most models) if going for x8 at reduced FPS then the 560ti (in most models). There are obvious exceptions on both sides though, best value per dollar is the 6950 regardless of AA levels.
im trying to find out wether or not i should buy the msi gtx 580 with twin frozr II or the Gainward gtx 580 "good" edition. The price is equal (havent checked other sites yet) but the msi runs at a little higher core clock and is more "modded" for overclocking. Im not really into that so i was just wondering if theres any differnce in noise between those two cards. Im really hoping for a striaght answer as I'm currently running with 2 gts 240's on bf3. (forgive my noobishness) Now enlight me
@makro80 Go with the MSI twin frozr. It runs cooler and faster, and if yo think its a little loud then you can underclock it back to factory specs and it'll run even cooler and quieter. hope that helps :)
so if we doesn't care about temperature, but really care about NOISE, stock card is better ? (At the end of video, MSI and ASUS seam to make so mutch noise)
@qcnicolas No as a rule stock coolers will always be louder than custom coolers for a given temperature. In other words say you want your card to be ~80 degrees celcius under load, the stock cooler will be louder at this temperature than the ASUS/MSI offerings. The only reason they are louder in this video is because of the more aggressive fan profiles.
That said, if you don't know how to customise fan profiles, the stock cooler will most likely be the quietest solution for this instance
@lKasHl Thx IKasHi, In fact I had buy the GTX 560 ti CALIBRE, @950Mhz stock, and It was making so much noise at 100% U.GPU, and temp become so hot (82-84°), even if I downclock the frequency...(or juste 2-3° better).
I know how customize fan profiles, but at this temp, you just can't.
So I was afraid this MSI or this ASUS was same, but it seems that not, I bought the MSI one, and the temperature are very good, allowing me to customize profile to be very quiet :)
950mhz is about a 15% overclock, which is actually pretty high for a stock card so I'm assuming they would have overvolted it more than necessary (to ensure 100% compatability despite differences in the silicone) so if you still have the Calibre and it is voltage adjustable, you could probably shrink the voltage back a bit seeing thats the main thing that causes the heat.
I have a EVGA reference GTX 560 Ti. Only a moderate OC - 930Mhz. The fan is whisper quiet. With the fan on auto it idles at 32C and while gaming it hits 68-74C which is completely fine (and normal). The GPU is rated at something like 99C so all this fussing over temps is a non-issue. I'd much rather have a quiet, larger single fan than two 80mm ones kicking up that much racket.
@Jeffredo729 True for a single card. but if you had two of your card in there, you would have considerably higher temps (10-15C higher)... the cooler cards come into play then.
@edwintanjunhong If you are using a lenovo pc, I would be more worried about whether you have the PCI-e slots, the Case cooling as this card dumps hot air INSIDE the case, & most importantly, whether the power supply has the juice to power this card.
@bobdude17 subtract the temp of the card, by the temp of the room. "delta" means "change in" thus the change in temp between the card and the room is "Delta" degrees
I am currently using an Asrock H61M-VS motherboard. I do not plan on overclocking my CPU or using any sata 6GB/s devices. Wtf... Everywhere I read that this card is comparable with a Boeing 747, and the temps still hits temps like 90°c... WHich is true???!! Yours seems to perform just good...
LOL. The VRM cooling is kinda nonsense, because it has very minimal affect. Many manufacturers have started leaving out those heatsinks, because it's waste of money.
I'm running the same test and I'm getting 81C on my Asus with open case. The fanspeed is the same, around 2300-2400. Any suggestions? Can I RMA for high temps?
@gabrocki You mean the black one, lighted by the blue LED ? That's not the CPU fan, just a fan hanging in the back of the shelf. The CPU fan is the brown/golden fan attached to the rad tower
if anyone has this!! please tell me what the noise is actually like, is it really quiet and does it spin up fast, because it is hard to judge through the speakers. Thanks!
if anyone here form the UK has ever watched top gear they will know that they made their theme out of car engine noises, perhaps linus could use the fan noises to make a theme? would be cool to see what he can come up with.
In my opinion hardware reviewers like linus should only do those tests that push your hardware to the limit. for the home users its waste of time and risk of shortening the life of your hardware to try out these tests, they wont make anything better and your scores wont be better than average reviews results.
It appears that only the reference PCB have the power monitor built in other cards such as the Twin Frozr II and the DirectCUII doesn't have that feature implemented so it won't be throttled down
@JorisCeoen wrong, the 6000 series has better scaling when in crossfire, uses less power, dosnt get as hot. They where not meant to be much faster, but more effecient.
Linus buy the 'Voltcraft SL 100 Volume Measuring' its only 53 euro's thats around 71 CAD. And btw,, did you measure the room temperature infront of the graphicscard? (That weird string) Probably you should aim it just somewhere else to get a proper room temperature measurement :) Though very well done :)
what's the difference between the MSi twin forzr vs the MSi hawk?

@jutenheim223 It's the same thing. The hawk is pretty much a modified Twin Fozr. It's quieter and cooler.

if anyone here form the UK has ever watched top gear they will know that they made their theme out of car engine noises, perhaps linus could use the fan noises to make a theme? would be cool to see what he can come up with.

@TotaIHaIibut The HD6000 series sucks x) most HD5000 cards are still better than the 6000
JorisCeoen 7 months ago
@JorisCeoen wrong, the 6000 series has better scaling when in crossfire, uses less power, dosnt get as hot. They where not meant to be much faster, but more effecient.
MissMan666 6 months ago
@TotaIHaIibut Wait for the HD7000 series btw, they "should be" awsome

what screen is that
santoroma17 1 year ago
Linus buy the 'Voltcraft SL 100 Volume Measuring' its only 53 euro's thats around 71 CAD. And btw,, did you measure the room temperature infront of the graphicscard? (That weird string) Probably you should aim it just somewhere else to get a proper room temperature measurement :) Though very well done :)
jopitan 1 year ago
@jopitan sound pollution would prevent him from getting an accurate measurement.
