Pilar didn't want to get involved with the Cranes. She had morals and dignity to not try to break up Ethan and Gwen. Ethan should have gone off with Theresa instead of waiting for her to win him.

Alistair was never around, the marriage had nothing to do with him. It was a business merger. Rebecca needed Gwen to marry someone rich and when Ethan backed out, of source she went after Julian because she was running out of money.
