I was disciplined using spanking and I am not aggressive. My mother also talked to me and if that did not help she raised her voice. Most of the things in my case we resolved using communication and shouting an spanking were more of a last resort. I know people who were brought up without spanking and they had problems with aggression when they were kids. By not using tough discipline parents tought them they could basically assault another person and would never be hit back.
