I didn't like how easily the surfer was captured, he's such a powerful being, it shouldn't have been that easy, plus, wtf was that version of galactus? i mean really? a cloud? he was a being who was born in the universe before this one he was defeated far to easily as well
Love your reviews dude, well done and articulate. FF: Rise of Silver Surfer ... just another one of the MANY shit fest Marvel comic book films that conveniently get overlooked by fanboys.
my friend told me galactus (he's a huge comic book buff) since he is pretty much nearly god, that the way see him in the comics isnt his true form, thats just what he looks like to us which i thought was pretty cool because of how god tier galactus is, that would have probably been a better excuse by the producers
And Jessica Alba looks awful, I'm sorry, but why are her eyes so BLUE? It's so distracting. I know that has nothing to do with the movie itself, but it's just something that pisses me off. I think her desire to have children is simply due to the weak characters they portray. It is sexist in a way because the writers simply thought, well, she's a woman...so give her motherhood desires.
That alone epitomizes the problems with this franchise.
@Geekvolution Actually, I think the fact that you find the Reed and Sue relationship insufferable and that you have a wife who's not like that are rooted in the same reason. The sad fact is that many men in America and western society in general buy into these notions and are every bit as pathetic as they've been told to be. You agree with me that this is not a good thing and did not marry a woman like that. This is probably rooted in self confidence instilled in you as a child.
I remember when this came out and I went to see it in theaters with a couple of friends. There wasn't really anyone in the movie theater at the time, and I haven't seen the movie since. Very disappointing. I love the Fantastic Four, but I wish both films weren't made to be the cheesy sitcom they became.
I really dislike this movie, for most of the reasons you pointed out, but there was one point you make that I disagree, though I understand what you meant: I don't think it's sexist for portraying a woman to want a family and children. I actually think that is the most natural desire for a woman to have.
That's my opinion, and I do understand the point you were making.
@FabricaRhino Watch our other shows-- I'm on camera all the time! Probably never will be on Rewind; I like the focus to be on the film I'm reviewing. And nope, never read Tintin.
@Geekvolution this is getting repetitive but i at least agree part way with you, but i have to say i do enjoy your video. mainly because your opinions are usually opposite of mine. 1. why don't you lighten up and enjoy these kind of films. 2. this movie ain't going to show every little thing you want. 3. the movie is call FANTASTIC 4 RISE OF THE SURFER. so i assume its about f4 life and the ss rising. 4. the ending was great end of the story. 6 fans like torch because hes funny so let it be.
@Geekvolution, Great point about Reed and Sue changing there minds about being hero's, it really was uninspired. There was a great scene in Spiderman 2 where Peter's finds out someone died in the apartment fire that he rescued the little girl from. That scene was a great motivation for Peter to understand just how important being Spiderman is, people lives actually do depend on his actions. BTW great reviews, really informative.
I wish these reviews could reach a studio or a filmcompany, so the reviewer could be recognized as a good worker, get payed and can more easly make contact with other qualified critics. Filmschool alone isn't making anyone a real critic anymore, that is just an exuce for having a bigger face in front the mirror.
From the moviecritical reviews I found so far on the Net, I find this series the best.
I just wanted to add Logan on your final point on Jonny, and of course your review is completely top-notch, but hey, while people grow and evolve, it's also realistic that people REGRESS, like that song "Do It Again" by Steely Dan. it can be hard to change, and Jonny's childish antics and playboy styling -- in the context of the movie -- are a part of him, and maybe not easily conquered. But yeah, your point is still valid Logan, but regression is a good plot device too.
I guess you could say the first movie set the bar as low as it could and then met it. This one raised it to reasonable height and then ended up landing just as low. Whether that makes it better or worse is a matter of taste.
This movie is sad. If the character arcs and Glacatis had been done right, we could have had a third movie this year. It could have introduced the Skrulls. They could have hinted it in the Avenges movie and Avengers 2 could have been awesome. Avengers and Fantastic Four together.
I agree with everything, but I feel you´re missing the point with Johnny´s arc. When things looked like he was loosing his family, he realized how much he loved them, and how little he loved all those girls. When things return to normal at the end, he doesn´t need to find someone special, because he´s back with the people he loves.
captain logan the other cosmic universal beings consistantly talk on matters an debate, where galactus who form is that of the ones who view him comes off as a giant cosmic dog who's only motives is to eat. until noran rad start to guide him after which he continues to get servant to feed him.
Excellent review Cap, I think you nailed it. About the only thing I would quibble about is the line "and I'm dating the hottest girl in NYC". I actually enjoyed that bit simply because it's taken straight out of the Ultimate Galactus trilogy, when Reed says all of that to Nick Fury. I tend to be more forgiving when it's a nod to the source material.
I've never watched the Fantastic Four movies, but I thought you were spot on about the way male/female relationships are often displayed on screen, and it always just makes me want to tear my hair out. It's a terrible precedent to set, and, honestly, it's sexist. Unfortunately, nobody cares because sexism against men is apparently a-okay.
Are you going to do an incredible hulk review?
