  • That TWO sign in the beginning is actually BBC TWO.

  • Does anyone have this movie in German?

  • Peter no tail was Gay, that's why he had no tail " he hasn't got a tail" ha ha ha

  • Nostalgia indeed...

  • wow haven't seen this since i was five

  • I love Peter No Tail! Thanx!!!

  • My grandmother had this on VHS and we would watch it all the time, she still had it and it's so worn out haha. I thought I'd look here by chance and was surprised Peter No Tail was up. Thanks for the memories :D

  • He was going to drown that cat .. i remeber this being a fucked up depressing film with sad jazz

  • sometimes i find i am humming the songs from this film, never thought i would actually hear them again! thanks

  • I have the American English version. Max is the name of the bully in that version, instead of Mean Mike. Go figure.

  • .....Cat sat down, on a stone, not too far, from its home? :D

  • I'm back for another fix of Peter-no-Tail. Great film.

  • @Dracapalley yeah, definitely one to watch again! =)

  • @lilcoffeebandit ...and again... and again XD

  • lol... i can't belive av com across this animation, am 29 now and i watched this when i was 5 with my brothers and sisters , my auntie had it recorded around christmas time i can remember watching it over and over again. brings back memories, good old VHS.

  • Eeeh, douse the english version of the theme have anything to do with the plot?

  • @ACruelPicture No, I think the translator(s) made lyrics about the family father going home from the countryside place. I have seen the movie in Swedish many times before, and I can tell that they messed up the English version, considering the script. However, the voices aren't that bad.

  • @simonstadin What is the song about in the Swedish version? The American English version is about how Peter wants a tail! And the overall movie is more politically correct while being Amero-centric (giving no indication that it takes place in Sweden!). Was this movie popular in Sweden?

  • @InYourFaceNewYorker I can give you a translation by PM.

  • @InYourFaceNewYorker I wouldn't call it popular. Pretty poor quality for a swedish movie actually

  • well its a swedish movie so :)

  • I seem to remember an American cast dub that played on the Disney channel around 1990-92.

  • it sounds like the word bitch is in the song

  • OMG i aint seen this in years.... its one of mine and my brothers & sisters classic childhood favs! love it thanx for uploading it ;D

  • thank you sooooo much for putting this on :-)

  • this is so weird... I actually didn't thought they'd translated it to english... x) hope everyone loved it! :)

  • MY CHILDHOOD!

  • Oh I loved this as a child! I'd worn the tape out from watching it again and again. I had the American localization though, so the British voices, dialog and song lyrics don't match up with my memories.... which is actually more disorienting then I'd have expected. Still a fantastic memory trip to a more innocent time.

  • Brings me back to my youth thank you for uploading this lovely drawn animation ! Used to love this and never thought id see it again ! Brings a big smile to my face :)

  • Brings back my youth thank you very much !!!!!! used to love this

  • You can buy this on ebay and the sequel as well on DVD! It's only a couple of quid as well...

  • I haven't seen this in over 20 years and yet as soon as it started I remembered the music and the animation exactly - such a great film, thanks for the memories!

  • This used to be shown on BBC television in the UK every Christmas.... Loved it.

  • This is such a great movie! I'm so glad you uploaded it!

  • Wow - I just moved and started thinking about my cats and I always loved this when I was a youngin. Thanks so much for posting this, it made my day!

  • Such apalling cruelty to even think about drowning a kitten!

  • Ha I had the same recording of this broadcast, Watership Down followed.

    **Sigh** great memories THANK YOU

  • Peter did have a tail. It was just a bobtail. Perhaps, they should've named the movie Peter Bobtail.

  • @catprotector In the Finnish version he is Pekka Töpöhäntä - Töpöhäntä meaning bobtail.

  • Excellent! thanks for uploading, I to remember this from when I was a kid! And i'm a fan of Watership Down also!!

  • I love this thanks for uplaoding cheers mate

  • Haven't seen this in years. It takes me back :) Thanks for uploading

  • its from -81 its made by Jan Gissberg a dude also making a

    cartoon named "91:an"

  • Wow this brings back memories... I'd forgotten how good the animation was. Those Swedes have a good sense of humour too!

  • Helen Worth, Is That THE Helen Worth Who Plays Gail In Corrie?

  • i had this on vhs, i wonder if i still have it somewhere. cruel bastard was going to kill him.

  • I still have this on VHS, and despite watching it many times, it's not broken (I'm 15 now and it was recorded sometimes in '95-'96).

Also, you sorta messed up the intro song. In the original version they sang something like "There are big cats, there are small cats, there are cats of every colour" but here they translated it as a song about going back to work after summer vacation, but still it's amazing how you could translate something so Swedish to English. :D

  • awe. hugs to all the kiddos out there who loved peter no-tail!! were all grown up but the memories are forever. I loved this movie so much my brother and I broke our tape from watching it too much! lol. thank you so much for posting this english copy!! it so hard to find nowadays.

  • my sister taped over my copy of this when i was 7. i'm 28 now and i still haven't forgiven her !

  • Me too!

  • OMG I adored this movie when I was wee! Thank you so much for uploading! We had it on a tape with He-Man & She-Ra Xmas Special and Watership Down and we watched that tape so much it broke :( Haven't seen it since, thank you so much *hugs*

  • @LeopoldStotchRules bloody tapes

  • I have always loved this animation. This was a firm favourite of my childhood. They really don't make them like this anymore!

  • Didnt even know anyone knew about this outside Sweden :P

  • @MrSchweden I read the books in Finnish when I was kid. I used to borrow a high pile of books from the library bus visiting our school. Books about cats (and Pekka Töpöhäntä (Pelle Svanslös/Peter No-Tail)) on the top of it. Any movies I don't remember to see before I was about a teenager, when I saw the Finnish dub of that Cat Olympics movie.

  • @MrSchweden haha, I watched it when I was about 6, and I live in Brazil =D

  • @MrSchweden My mum taped it off tv here in Australia when my sister and I were young (I was born in 1988). We used to love it!

  • i like this video to thank you for posting it, and also, it seems you can find ANYTHING on you tube

  • Had this on video (!) when i was about 4.

Been looking for it for years.

Just shared it with all my family on facebook.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I've been searching all over the net for the English version of Peter-No-Tail. Haven't seen it in like 20 yrs!

  • MAAAAN, I Am from Brazil, and they showed this cartoon here just a couple of times when I was 5 or 6 (I am 19 now)!!

I recorded it on a VHS, but II've ost it a long time ago...

Thank you SO MUCH for posting!!! *A*

  • Brilliant film - not for the want of sounding older than I am - they do not make them like this any more.

  • OMG I remember this cartoon movie!!!

Thank you SO much for posting =^.^=

  • helen worth as in gail plat

  • I remember this very well. Not bad animation for the time it was made....lots of observational detail with periods with no dialogue where you just see the scene before you panning around which is unusual for many cartoons now. It seems that post 1990s cartoons there has to be action and noise every two seconds. This hasn't been on the TV for a long, long time. Nice story. Thanks for this.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I used to love this, had it on a VHS that my parents taped (probably the same broadcast this is from) - but parts of the tape have been taped over by accident. You have no idea how happy you've made me! Thank you :-)

  • Hell yeah i remember this cartoon it was great!!! thanks for posting this

  • nice to know someone else remembers! =)
