  • Robert Johnson did it with one guitar, not three.

  • the first time i heard this, i thought he was saying he kept drinking mountain dew lol

  • whos the guitar player next to him?

  • @brewjake Andy Fairweather-Low plays acoustic guitar and Dave Bronze acoustic bass-guitar with EC on this one.

  • I think malted milk was beer.

  • This is the best milk!

ROBERT JOHNSON AND ERIC CLAPTON......THE KINGS OF BLUES!!!

  • I love Clapton

  • Comment removed

  • his unplugged version much better

  • Please note that Andy Fairweather-Low plays the fills!

  • After llistening to alot of RJ, im really not feelin Claptons versions of this stuff.

I used to be a big fan.

  • even he needs 2 guitars

  • Shouldve used an old acoustic guitar.

  • Its horlics...

  • OK the roach was snuffed out a while ago. A large part of the music are the mystery around the lyrics. I will always enjoy performing and listening to Malted Milk.

One of the best EC recordings ever! My favorite lyric: :'MY DOOR KNOB KEEPS ON TURNING...THERE MUST BE SPOOKS AROUND MY BED" I don't believe malted milk causes hallucinations..

Your interpretation is just as valid as anybody's...even mine. I do agree with you...ENJOY ...no matter what state yer in.

  • @DetroitDen If you were a black man in the American south in the 1920's, you did not have to hallucinate to find threats everywhere- at the door, around your bed, ready to lynch you for looking the wrong way.

  • A legion covering a legion, what could be better.

I am still trying to figure out why RLJ songs are copyrighted until 2047 in USA but in public domain everywhere else, since he died in 1938.

  • Malted milk was an old school intoxicant.

  • Clapton is God.

  • Love them blues.

  • I got the blues!!!

  • MILO

  • I've gotta play this in 2 weeks time as part of my degree...not looking forward to it :(

I can play Layla. I shot the Sheriff ok but this just messes me up. I've got the timing down, just not the playing....wish I could find some easier way to learn this other than guitar pro and this vid :( :(

  • Where do you go for school bra

  • I'm in uni in Devon, England m8. Just uploaded the vid of me n my friend playing this. Though it's nowhere near as good as Clapton obviously!

  • DALE! is that you?? your playin it again tommoro! and i think u play it fine dude

  • @sophstar3 HAHA Hey Soph yeah it's me. Cheers for the thumbs up :) Will send you a friend request in a minute :) :)

  • Why are both of them playing?

  • since we are talking about meanings of lines....what the heck does "spooks around my bed" mean?

  • Ghosts?

  • spooks around my bed is a reference to spirits, something that is a recurrent theme in Robert Johnson's work (Hellhound on my Trail, Crossroads, others). It is NOT a racial reference.

  • The guy tha's cutting the mustard for me here is the 2nd guitar player. Is it the awesome Andy Fairweather Low?

  • In all fairness to Clapton I don't think he is as good as Johnson at acoustic finger-picking style blues (Johnson's forte). He is however a genius with an electric guitar and it is his electric playing that earned him the name God. But can you really compare the two overall?

  • malted milk is beer

  • Malted milk is a powdered food product made from a mixture of malted barley, wheat flour, and whole milk, which is evaporated until it forms a powder.

  • I keep drinking malted milk, trying to drive my

blues away. I keep drinking malted milk, trying to

drive my blues away. Baby, you're just as welcome

to my loving as the flowers is in May.

Malted milk, malted milk, keep rushing to my head.

Malted milk, malted milk, keep rushing to my head.

And I have a funny, funny feeling and I'm talking

  • nice nice nice

  • To try to compare anyone with RLJ is ridiculous. Clapton is good at the tremendously challenging job of covering RLJ, but I don't think he wants to suffer the embarrassment of being literally compared to RLJ. Eric has indicated he dislikes and eschews the adulation or "star status" he has earned. He likes that famous photo of a wall where someone spray-painted CLAPTON IS GOD, and in the photo a dog is pissing on the wall.

  • malted milk is delicious

  • robert johnson song.

  • Could've sworn he was saying "I keep drinking mountain dew"

  • to my darlin bro dave ivey its bin 13 long years and still miss you so much always will xxxx

  • Ladies, ladies....whay does it have to have a secrete meaning,,,damn, CAN'T A GUY JUST LOVE MALRED MILK???? Snuff out that roach and enjoy the music....Sheeeesh!

  • I always assumed the white powdery malted milk was supposed to be a reference to cocaine!!

  • they have to play two guitars lol :P

  • yup..... there was no other way to imitate robert johnson sound!!!

  • No they don't. It just sounds a lot better this way. Possibly because Clapton has a much better voice.

  • Nah. Clapton said himself he couldn't do what RJ did with one guitar. And Clapton's voice is nowhere near Johnson's, although he does a great job, esp. considering he's a Brit.

  • I think it's improper to say that Clapton is worse than RJ. Does he have the same feel? Certainly not. But does he play it well, and give it his own touch. Yes, and furthermore, it sounds damn good and I think that's what's important

  • At no point did i say Clapton is worse than Johnson.

  • Google it boys!

It´s made from a mixture of malted barley, wheat flour, and whole milk... and yes, may be used to give a sweet taste to beer!

  • i've always wondered... what IS malted milk? i've had malted milk balls... they're basically candy... so, is malted milk kind of like hard cyder but milk? or what?

  • maybe they're taking about malted cider. haha it's possible that's what they were referring to and don't literally mean milk but the concept of it =P

  • well i know you cant really just leave milk out and get alcohol lmao, but still... why "Malted Milk" i wonder. i guess we'll never know :\

  • very sadly. we miss good ol' Robert Johnson =[

  • i thiiiink it might be where the slaves used to add whiskey to their milk so they could drink it without anyone knowing

    dont quote me though

  • yeah i wont quote you loader, but that makes sence. and on that note, what the hell is Malt Whiskey? probly the same thing hah.

  • malt whiskey is real whiskey none of your american bourbon shite

  • im not american, and i dont drink. besides that it would be illegal at my age (who gives a shit).

  • The Malting is a process applied to produce beer and alcoholics...have you ever hear "malted beer"? So I think he refers to beer!

  • That's some serious sweetness.
