  • Is that the Tardis door opening sound at the start and finish? Do you need the smoke to play it? I would love to play one of these while singing but dry ice is just horrible to breathe in and probably not good for the voice! I wish I had the skill to make one.

  • what is the music called?

  • @konquerer Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings".

  • very beautiful music . i need the full version of that music if you dont mind

  • Sound track is pretty disgusting especially given your innovative approach to new insrtuments ...

  • wow barbers addagio for strings cool

  • this kicks way more ass than a theremin ever could.

  • Hey i seen the harp and i just think is amazing and i fell in love with that and i wanted to ask u i want to build one for me to be having for my own amusement but i really don't know anything about making one and i was wondering how is it that you make one like what do you need?? or if there are any instructions on making one?? i mean its probably something you just don't tell anyone or something like that but you got any tips???

  • Hi Stephen -- I've been watching these videos of your laser harp coming together, and it's incredibly impressive.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but once you've mastered Rendezvous II, where else is there to go?

Also, it strikes me as odd why JMJ went to so much trouble with his various fakies, when a run-of-the-mill synth keyboard is so much more user friendly. Have you considered other input interfaces that might look just as cool in performance, but are easier to play?

  • I agree with you. :-)

I built the laser harp just to see if it could be done.

At the time there was no information on the internet about building reflective, frame-less harps. So I thought I'd have a go at doing it.

I've been working on a MIDI Theremin that I hope will be more playable and expressive.

  • But don't get me wrong -- I think what you've done is amazing. I know people say this all the time, but really, you could build and sell them quite profitably.

  • I agree! As far as i'm aware, the laser harp is not currently available to the public. Given the time that you have invested in creating this astonishing piece of kit makes me seriously believe that you could get these things on the market. I know for a fact that I would buy one.

I think it's truly magnificent that you have created this instrument - when I saw JMJ play his at Birmingham last night, I fell in love with it. Your project is one step closer to a dream come true for all Jarrists.

  • makes sense, i can understand. i sent you an e-mail with some further questions, thanks for your time

  • how much would you charge me to have you build one? i am seriously interested and would be willing to pay a reasonable price.

  • I don't build the harps myself - it's not about the money, I don't have the time to do it.

All the boards have to be soldered. I built 3 separate boards with power, galvo drive, and sensor circuits on each. But you could just build them all on one board.

  • I get asked this a lot.

I don't have the time (or skill) to mass produce PCBs. I was hoping someone else might make some, but no one has so far.

  • very beautiful music . i need the full version of that music if you dont mind

  • Everybody's got to have a gimmick to get noticed. I don't want to burst anyone's balloon but this is just a fancy light-switch that takes the place of a button. You'd be better off creating a real laser light show and use a multi-buttoned sampler or loop player to trigger the pre-made music. Better yet, spend $300-500 on a real analog instrument and learn how to make music directly from the human interface. Please turn off the smoke generator so I can find my way out of here. cough, cough. lol

  • I have a lot of people ask me about building them - what would be your budget for a pre-built one?

  • Personnally my bugdet could be:

    price for the electronic pieces

    +

100 to 150 USD for the building

    +

price for dispatch to home and insurrance

    -

price for the laser (because I want to buy it myself)

BTW I've already bought the plans for self maintenance if I'll need them.

  • Hmmm I might need to tag on a bit to recover the costs of engineering the PCBs - that might get the assembly time down.

  • build me one please?? ?? :-p

  • mate this is shit hot. I want one!

  • Mann!!! what can I tell you... congratulatios... fully functional!!! :D

I wish I could get one of those already built lol :P

    Regards!!!

  • Are these just presets you're triggering? I'm very confused!

  • It depends on how you define presets...

    :-)

  • ...and before you comment, yes I know the audio is out of sync with the video, but it looked so cool I wanted to post it anyway...
