  • RIP Sarah Jessica Parker.

  • People need to realize that these animals are made for this. I have never met a tb that didn't want to work. They are athletes, and to be anything less often results in an unhappy horse. Thoroughbreds that aren't challenged enough will find other more destructive ways to express their energy and athleticism. It's in their blood. So I do not think a performance career is cruel, there being exceptions of course, like abuse. But if cared for well an athletic career is ideal for a Thoroughbred.

  • @Kirilya I can't agree more. I've always owned TB's and they have the best work ethic of every horse I've ever met. My horse is 21, a TB, and he is still doing everything he was doing at 10 years old. I tried giving him the winter off and he's been going crazy. The second I start working him, he doesn't want to stop.

  • Joy is freaking awesome! We need more people like this on the telly. Not just skinny boring beauties but girls with brains!!

  • Is it just me or is the quality pretty bad?

    Thanks for the upload!

  • This is one of my favorite shows. It lets us get deep inside the animal; it reveals so many wonderous things in Gods beautiful creation. Lets all praise the Creator.

  • In my opinion, the horses should be let to grow in peace until their bones and the whole body have fully developed. I don't mean, that they cannot be ridden, but what I've noticed as a good method with the young horses I take care of, that they should be raised in a natural environment where they can run and play with their friends, not that in the age of 2 they'd be running in races. No, I prefer to put them on the field to run and then once a day train them as they need to be trained.

  • @pittheur I agree but this would have to be the law because otherwise people doing it that way would have a disadvantage.

  • How would you get them strong if you did not let them run young?

Not every young horse is a star so drop out is largest in young age.

Like not every elementary class human pupil makes it into professorship.

Race horses are expensive and keeping them is expensive. I don't think any trainer would spoil young horses on purpose. Rather I think that they are kept and trained very carefully.

  • great post

  • wonderful post !

  • racing horses at 2 years old when their body isn't fully grown is horrible

that's what i hate about racing but if they use horses that are older i love the sport

don't forget these horses love to run and their trainers and riders do care about them

+ horses can break bones by just running in a field or tripping over a rock

nothing is without a risk, whether you just take a calm walk, thunder down a racetrack or jump fences

  • I feel sorry for the race horses, but this is ther best video I EVER have seen, it gives a better understanding for how the horse works.

  • when i die, i want to come back as a stud horse, not too bad of a life;)

  • Thank you for uploading this! I have a QH that for fun riding, and even though she is not a racehorse, this makes me appreciate her power even more. As for the horseracing...there are a slew of horses who live to race, they love it and love winning. Racing isn't the problem, it's the owners & trainers who TAKE ADVANTAGE. People get upset because a horse injures his leg & is put down. They don't really know what happens behind the scenes and the emotional struggles that the people may have.

  • thanks so much for uploading this!! i love horses and they are my whole life, and this was so cool to see! answerd so many questions i had in my head. race horses are quite amazing but i also wish it wasnt so dangerous for them.. but they love it and its all they know sooo.. but anyways. great documentary!!

  • i want them to do a bear :P

  • horse racing could be a beautiful sport if it weren't for human greed. it isn't running the horse thats cruel, these thoroughbreds have a strong drive to do just that, they can also be competitive and seem to enjoy winning. its racing them at 2 years old before they're even fully matured and putting them down at the slightest injury thats cruel.

  • They break their legs, necks and backs racing to make money for other people yet when this happens, the green screens are pulled round and the animal is shot (with a silencer) away from the public eye. Sometimes the horses are made to walk in considerable pain away from the public view and then shot. While all this happens the race carries on and the public barely notice the end of these great, noble creatures. Is that fair?

  • AMAZING video!!! =)

I also just realized right now that this was uploaded the day Hickstead, the top show jumper in the world, died. O.o

  • I winced when he cut the tendon on the leg e_e

  • It sems to me RAGA54 is a highly opinionated sociopath that has absolutely no consideration for any innocent creatures. You just proved my point in what you have written to others and myself. Such a waste of existence....

  • when i saw the clip of Barbaro i got teary eyed... but i do agree that the age when a horse can race should be 4 or so years old... give the horse a chance to grow before racing them. Zenyatta is living proof of this. she didnt race till she was almost 4, and look how well she did over a 3-4 year span.

  • anyone interested in horses should watch this! make me see my ex-racehorse in a whole new light!

  • A very nice documentary. I hope they can perhaps also make one about a breed that is totally different from a race-horse. Perhaps a Belgian drafthorse(one that actually worked in the forrest or worked in the field).

Or compare a dressage horse to a jumping horse.

  • After watching all these very informative documentaries, I have made my mind up.......Human beings ARE the cruelest animals on this planet.

  • @TheBoondockgurl we can all be happy that your opinion does not matter.

  • surprising, scientists at work, not knowing shoeing is not necessairy and shoeing is very bad for the horses hoof and leg. Shoes reduce shockbreaking and bloodflow of the hoof. Shoeing young horses like 2 year old baby horses stops the cofinbone from developing normally. Racing maybe good for people but it is no doubt very bad for horses. Racehorses do not live very long.

  • @joop1234567890 shoeing not necessary? ever owned a horse? sure its not necessary if the horse does not do anything all day but barefoot horse working hard will not last long at all.

  • @raga54 You really must be an naive. Animals have emotions, though they may not be as complex as ours, they still have it. As far as humans being the cruelest....yes that is true and NOT an opinion. Do your research before you decide to enter your juvenile comments.

  • @raga54 I have many horses, because I have a horserescue centre in FR. All horses not fit anymore due to too young put to work, damage by shoeing and living locked up in boxes with unproper food. It is time people realise these practices are maybe fun for people but NOT for the horses. After use they are disposed, often to slaughter.

  • @raga54 Shoeing isn't always necessary depending on the breed and their use. A lot of breeds have very hard feet, particularly ponies, and they don't need shoes even if they're ridden all the time.

  • Is it just me, who see breeding by hand as rape? The mare has no change of getting away...

  • @SilverFlake3 I was just thinking the exact same thing, but they are professionals, so I hope they love the mare and treat her with respect and know what they're doing

  • @SilverFlake3 Um, MOST sex for female mammals is rape. Check out the National Geographic specials.

  • @neoplop is that so? That's a shame ! But well, in this case I can't see the mare having ANY change of saying no :/

  • @SilverFlake3 wow so uninformed... animals are not humans, don't make the mistake of attributing human emotions with animal ones.

  • "we don't have the mateials in engenering, as we do in biology". I find biology so fasinating because humans can't make it. We are not even near being able to do something like this. Being ablw to go in and fix broken organs is really cool too, but we're no where near being able to make biological robots. (yes, we can make babies, but it's not the same a building one)

  • I wouldn't say they're one of our "closest companions" and I also don't think dogs and horses use humans to develop, they probably didn't want to work for humans to begin with, for any reason.

Maybe dogs wanted to, 'cus you can see some dogs enjoy working and it got food and shelter a.s.o, but I'm not so sure about the horses

  • @ThinkerHatNeeded Actually, if horses are treated right, they love to be worked and ridden. There's a horse at my stable that doesn't have a good temperament on the ground, but once she even sees her bridle she perks right up and behaves the whole time! But again, every horse has a different personality and respond to things differently. A horse doesn't show its emotions as much as a dog, but once you know their body language you can easily tell the difference between emotions.

  • Dawkins thinks he's so smart. He forgets that several fossils of these ancient horses were found in the same mud flat with the current horse fossil.

  • @ShanonT12 Exactly. Where are the transitional forms in between these fossils of supposed ancestors of the horse? There are none because eohippus did not evolve into the modern equine, it was a separate species that merely became extinct.

  • @polomarey Thank you!!! I hate that this old hoax information still swirls around out there. There are NO transitional forms of anything. Nice to know I'm not the only one who knows this. : )

  • @ShanonT12 Oh, we're not the only ones. Believe me, those of us who know the truth are numerous. It's just that we are frequently drowned out by the louder voices desperate to reinforce their own belief in the lies. That's why it is always good to speak up, as you did here, and point out these fallacies whenever you can. Let those who are still undecided about the topic not be discouraged from finding out the truth because of the false appearance that "everyone" believes the lie.

  • thanks a million for uploading! work with racehorses and this should be compulsory for everyone in this line of work!

  • For further information to the overground scope contact Videomed GmbhH Germany

  • That was amazing! TONS of great stuff there

  • It is very interesting that the evolution of the horse as a flight animal is fully addressed, including the expansion of the heels of the hoof and the opening requirement of the larynx for passage of air, but the man-imposed restrictions of metal shoes and metal bits as inhibitors to these required functions to working at speed is ignored. Perhaps a genetic analysis of stubborn adherence to "traditions", valid or not, would be most beneficial for horses, racing or otherwise.

  • I always felt that horse racing was rather crue: The poor things aren't even fully matured (racing at 2 years old!) and they're being made gallop 'round as fast as they can all the time. That just can't be good for their poor bones and organs, no matter how much selective breeding is done with Thoroughbreds. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with racing if we went about it more humanely...

My opinions aside, great documentary. I love this series.

  • @Replicaate Yes, just the fact that these animals are raised for a hobby is not fair for them.

And yes, this series are great.

  • @hinatahsama actually if you watched the documentary it is very fair for them to be raised for a hobby because it is an evolutionary niche that they used to survive.

  • @hinatahsama That is true for most horses in the western world, though.

  • @hinatahsama Well, compared to other animals, at lesat we don't breed them to eat. At least champion horses woudl be fed the healthiest foods, get plenty of excercise, etc. But I do understand where your coming from.

  • @Replicaate I can assure you that horses who don't like working out at this level and racing, will not be race horses. They are very often reprogrammed for other activities. The same happens to race horses who are tired of racing. I know this because I work with theese horses on a daily bases, and I love theese horses with all my heart, both racing and retired.

  • @Ulla0104 I wish this statement was entirely true... Sadly here in the US many of the racehorses that don't perform end up going to slaughter. Even worse, once retired many racehorses are deemed useless; discarded and sent to a brutal slaughter. For example, 1987 Kentucky Derby winner Ferdinand was slaughtered. I feel that after exploiting these amazing animals we owe them a dignified and safe retirement. The horse industry also needs to take responsibility and stop over breeding.

  • @Replicaate raceing is not not crule they love to run thats what they do its whats insade of them they dont back down! nor do i thats what they do run!

  • @prcakid I'm sorry, but I think you are misinformed. The racing industry is disgusting(as is much of the horse performance industry)these Thoroughbreds are started at 2 years old. A horses body (skeletal structure, etc) and mind does not mature until much older. These horses are started as babies. Horses do love to run... but not like this. This is extremely hard on their immature bodies and spirit. Most of them are broken down by age 4 or 5... horses are supposed to live 25-30+years.

  • Horse Porn

  • What a great video. Thank you for the upload and also to the producers of this video. I can't wait for star fish racing to be popular.

  • Yaetz is symbolic of why Dinosaurs grew so large. Also, the fag gaze of the dude at 14:52 is funny and the return gaze by the horse at 14:56. Also, this is no different than illegal dog fighting in the US. Of course this horse is fucking 5 times a day when so much steroids are injected in its food. Another reason why steroids should be allowed in the Olympics. Humans are such hypo-fuckin-crits.

  • @swassontelus Actually, in the equestrian world, there are a lot of drugs and steroids that are illegal. Before and after every race, every horse is checked to see if they've been injected with anything illegal. If they have been, they're disqualified.

  • This video is amazing. Thanks for the post. I grew up in Western Canada but never really cared about horses. Horse racing is bullshit and so is the Calgary Stampede, but the history of horses and the biology is awesome.

  • At 1:40 there is a dancing monkey (and I don't mean in a racist way). This guy wants to fit in in the worst way. I like how Sheiks act noble when they get educated in the West yet rule the unaware populous in the East. I don't see many Westerners enrolling in Dubai University on how to better its society. Sitting on an ocean of oil has its privileges (I guess). Many ME rulers buy skanks and can't act normal after 10 beers. Weak society, weak leadership.

  • @finalsolution... still not intelligent, man. C'mon, tell me why... are you AFRAID?

  • @screenpuller why did a nazi make you alter your OWN CHANNEL? why are you afraid?

  • @finalsolution14... SEE? You are only showing everyone what is in Your mind. Grow up, please.

  • @screenpuller i'll grow up.....if you stop being a PEDOPHILE.

  • So here's an interesting question... can horses be righty or lefty? Is prefering a hand to be dominant human alone or do other animals do it?

  • @screenpuller heres another interesting question: why do you troll for young boys on youtube? faggit PEDOPHILE!!!

  • @screenpuller Ignoring the other comments, yes, horses can prefer a certain lead over another. However, most prefer their left where as humans usually prefer their right.

  • @screenpuller Yes, absolutely. An individual horse will show a preference for pawing at things with their left or right front hoof.

  • @hinatahsama, love this program... thanks a bunch! :)

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! I love this series!!!

  • @knucklescapricorn31 You are very welcome.
