  • I don't think as christians we are to use the bible as a foundation for knowledge and ethics.

  • What about Romans 1:26-27? It doesn't at all appear in the same context as the passages about food regulations and such. Anyhoo, if you want to get into the Biblical meta-narrative, then it goes like this: Everyone is horribly wicked by nature and choice (I myself being suitable for damnation), but God, being rich in mercy and compassion, saved some people from the evil they are and chose. Wether homosexuality falls is "evil" is pseudo-irrelevant when you see the extent of depravity.

  • very simple Fornication is a sin. How does one avoid it? Hmmm 1 Cor 7:2 To avoid fornication let every man have his own wife and every woman have her own husband. There you failed

  • @fuzzygoddess

    Hi Fuzzy,

Perhaps it might help to discuss where you see errancy. I think you're absolutely correct that if God was real, then there should not be 'errancy' in the word he gives us.

I've found for myself however, that where I at first see errancy, closer inspection reveals that the error was more in my own false assumptions.

So, if you will, please post an instance where you see Biblical errancy (choose only 1 please... just for the sake of clear discussion.)

  • The problem with your line of reasoning is that it is Biblically fallacious. Every word is to be established by two or three witnesses, and we have seven (not 6) verses giving us the problems of homosexuality. The whole inconsistency argument fails because while shellfish may be condemned in the OT, the NT does not repeat the condemnation (1 Tim. 4:3-5). We have homosexuality called wrong in BOTH Testaments. Thus the choosing is not arbitrary as you attempt to argue.

  • Who is the buzzard bait that marked d1mf1n's comment as spam... it is a BIBLE VERSE for Pete's sake... oh.,..wait, is it one of the "Pesky Verses?" I"m sorry...As for pesky verse judgment, I may be out of my league

  • So Mr. Jones, let me understand, you say there are things in the Bible which were once considered an abomination by the people of God and it isn't so anymore. So what you're stating is that people's opinions and ideas validate Biblical truth and God's law. Paul says the law is spiritual yet we are sold into sin: imperfection. How can an imperfect being validate perfection? It's the other way way. God is the lawgiver and we must follow it not decide if it's good or not. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

  • those things that ur saying we dont apply as literally are all in the old testament. 3 of the six verses are in the new testament so should they be interpretted literally?

  • d1mf1n - Spam?! Relativism is a trend which has sneaked its way into Christian circles and unfortunately Mr. Jones is one of the many proponents of such a gross movement. What is in the Bible is there for a reason and man's own "interpretations" of Scripture are mostly erroneous. Our founding fathers stated that truth is self-evident and Jesus said that the "truth will set you free'. When you read into the text, you're not taking what it says at face value and therefore deny truth.

  • Agreed. This conversation is useless. You've laid out the commonly held myth of bible translation, not the facts. Bible translations are produced from original texts, not other bibles. The bible speaks of those who will suppress the truth. Another prophecy fulfilled.

  • You lost me at "the bible is man made".

Are you a daughter, sister, mother, cousin, wife or friend? Oh, more than one? So was Christ - fully God and fully man. And so is the Bible - written by God and written by men.

  • "I'm not asking anybody to not refer to biblical passages."

    Uhhhh, except 6, right?

Well, Tony, go drive a car without 5 wheels: the four on the road and the one you steer with. I'm not asking you to not drive the car. I'm just asking you to do it without those 5 wheels.

This man is supposed to be an intellectual?

What he's really saying is "let's gag God so He can't say those 6 verses to us, and then let's decide what we think about this issue on our own."

Is apostasy a place in MN?

  • Thanks fuzzy, I hope my prior comment, Posted under DorianAnthony777, (My Other Channel) did not come off as terse, if it did, please forgive me. Although I am a Conservative Christian, I am not so ridged that I can not consider the views of others in a loving respectful way, even if we disagree......I'll give it a google and see what I can find... ...

  • Hmmm.....

So then along with all those verses that include homosexuality like murder, envy, adultery, hate- we should also not take literally and treat as abominations.

Come on Tony get real - you know full well that if a woman back in that time did not have her head covered it was considered loose- it was a cultural issue. Homosexuality is not a cultural issue- it is listed along side sexual immorality, covetousness, deceit, murder. It is a sin.

  • That would be fine argument...... except Christians do not consider the Talmud in the canon of sacred scripture...I am interested in the reference tho...

Because i would like to see if it is a reference to pedophilia, or basic sex education taught to children who in that culture married quite young...

  • Well said.

  • Nice, Tony. If we can move beyond the problem of selective literalism I think we will be well on our way to have a meaningful and constructive debate.

I appreciate the call to humanize the conversation as well. I've been a lurker on your blog as of late and haven't commented because there was way to much emotional "noise" flying around. Hopefully a call to empathy can help remediate that problem.
